i have been waiting for a massive jump in shoe technology in sport for years. We pay big bucks for a players contract, but the footy boot can still be bought at Rebel. 

Every player should have boots made for them personally. 

A Turf toe injury should be covered in a 2018 boot. 

I may be asking too much, but if i am, i will be shocked and amazed. 

Agree ..but of course they wear the sponsor's boot which has to be available for resale.

Certainly not impossible to get handmade boots.... might be harder though to replicate the "air cushion" etc claimed by the high end boots.

PS Just did some research on the NBA players and in the main they wear off the shelf boots with individually designed orthotic inserts.

Amazing, look at any piece of play that becomes congested or a marking contest. A foot could be stood on and shattered at any time, 

and that has nothing to do with a hyperextended  metacarpal

No it didnt. Appalling effort it final game and inability to kill a side for% cost the finals.

Viney did his own thing in an effort to get back early when he was advised that 9 weeks off was needed. Look what happened. 

Gawn jones and watts were all effectively managed.

Tmac and the team have done the right thing all along this year.

TMac is ok, and will play, as is pretty much confirmed by his inclusion in the final side tonight. TMac and medical staff were being precautionary which is understandable on both their parts given TMac’s previous foot issues. The issue identified this week is not a major one, and the area in concern is different to the one that caused him to miss earlier this year. All are just keen to get him through to the bye round for a rest and reassessment to be done then.

And yes boots can be and often are modified to suit specific requirements. It’s the same thing as tennis racquets, for example, you can go to Rebel sport and buy a racquet that looks exactly like the one Federer uses, however as a professional tennis player, he has his own racquets weighted, tensioned etc. to his liking – same principle with footy boots.

I think its stupid to ignore stats for injury management and assume sports science are doing a good job just because its a bit of a black box to read

You have actually highlighted many of the injury mgmt issues last year that caused us issues:

Viney should not be allowed to mismanage his recovery out of a determination to help the team - he is our most influential player

Gawn himself on refection said it wasn't just his hammy but that he did get fit enough to return

Watts was criticised for not getting himself fit for this return and was subsequently dropped. 

Salem was also unfit and dropped back to VFL

Tmac had a set back earlier this year. Lets hope he hasn't had another one.

For what it is worth, I have just been talking to one of our favourite players long term partner who told me that Tommy’s injury is not too bad. He just pulled up slightly sore.

On topic, MFC has cruelled by injury in recent years. With limited depth, its impact was heavier on us than others. 

One of the few upsides for MFC is that Jesse's injuries forced us to experiment with Tom up forward. 

It was a stumbled success to rival 3M's "sticky note".
