Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Unless after 4 games he and the Medicos believe he needs a rest Spargo is doing more than enough to hold his place on pressure alone. Hannans game was highly frustrating with one handed takes, flying against talls when a crumb was needed and inconsistent pressure. If Jeffys effort is shown to be where it should be I think our forward line would function even better with Garlett for Hannan. I would not consider any other change.

This is a despicable attempt at humour. Show some bloody respect

I posted that with no attempt of any connotation to indigenous folk although I admit that I can see it now.

The original joke was purely around the use of Garrett instead of Garlett.

Apologies to those it’s offended.

So we can all have a moment to chill, relax....and enjoy a Garrett free moment whilst recollecting our humour.

Strangely my fav song of theirs...

Forgive us for not all being ex-AFL players.

Seriously this is one of the most infuriating things anyone can say on a football forum.

Bugg’s doing the right thing by playing well at Casey but he was woeful in the seniors this year and whilst he was in the right spot often enough, he too regularly either didn’t want the ball or turned it over. We are also “unsociable” enough without him. He won’t be getting a game for being “unsociable” alone, either.

He wasn’t ‘woeful’. He kicks quite a few goals and tackles well. Tyson, on the other hand...

I expect that because the game is in Alice Springs and we have totally committed to this NT thing then they’ll drop Spargo for Garlett.

I will find it very disappointing but Can’t have Eddie Betts hogging all the indigenous limelight.

IF Garlett is to come in I would be very disappointed if it were for anything other than relative form or maybe the necessity for a Spartacus break

It's your reply that is ignorant.

At least let the high horse slow down prior to jumping on it.

Why the bloke apologised is beyond me.

Happy for no change (even if weid is ready, send him to the VFL for a match and see how he goes), wasn't happy with how Bull started the match (holding the ball, not killing contest, etc.), but he adjusted to the tempo of the game and ended up having a statistically nice game.

Anyone have thoughts on us flying up the day before the match? I personally like the idea of going up 2+ days before (as any flight exposes the body to radiation due to thinner air and less molecules to deflect incoming cosmic rays, and i think that's an additional stress on the body that can have a small effect on performance; might only be 0.5% - but i want to be in peak physical condition).

Example article looking at endurance performance and dose of radiation (greater exposure = poorer exercise time to exhaustion, hence performance is decreased).

https://atlasofscience.org/solar-radiation-reduces-endurance-exercise-performance-in-a-hot-environment/

You make a good point........... I think. Incoming cosmic rays have been affecting me for years so i decided after a while to stop using my "Ergon energy accumulator". I found that I accumulated so much excess energy that it was reducing my performance by 17.8 %. not just 0.5%.

Let them fly up two days before the game and let the chips fall where they may.

Jamie Bennell would consistently get a game in Darwin back in the day, often picked from nowhere to play so I wouldn’t be surprised if Spargo is rested & Garlett does come in, not entirely because of indigenous round but think it may play a part in Garletts secletion

Bull did a huge amount of work in packs and bringing the ball to ground. He will stay in. Those suggesting Pedo for Bull are mistaken - teams that win so well don't change unless it's absolutely necessary to cover injuries. Besides, Roos was interesting on Pedo during the OTC discussion last night. Said he could not maintain form at the highest level (although not in those precise words).

Pedo will still get his chance this year unless we have the Tigers' golden run with injury, and based on what Roos had to say, Pedo will be OK for short spells but not a sustained run in the seniors.

The only player to have a bit of a mare on Sunday for mine was Vince (now sitting on the cusp of our best 22 IMO in current form or lack thereof...possibly tiring a little) but who do you manage him with?  And then there's the timing against the old enemy.  He probably lifts his output a cog or two against the old club so would have to have someone in damn fine form at Casey to warrant the change IMO.

Personally i can't see who that "immediate" replacement would be at Casey unless Hunt / Wags or Frost had a stand out game and according to reports none of them managed this.

From what i saw Smith did more than enough around the drop, in some of the contested packs and with his work rate to get to the contest and impact.  In addition, weighted comparative stats had him ranked 12th on the day, which is impressive given his first game back in some time.  Not even on the radar at this point.

Spargo did enough generally and improved slightly on his game the week before (off a low base), although might be starting to tire a little (evidenced by his inaccuracy).  On the flip side Jeffy didn't produce anything special to warrant a call up anyway if the reports are reliable.  Spargo safe IMO.

Looking like no change at this point.  If so i feel that can only be a great positive as it sends yet another subtle message down and up the lines that you will need to perform at both AFL/VFL level if you wish to hold your place or get a call up AND allows the same line up to go around again chock full of confidence.  If everything clicks again (fingers crossed) this allows the same group to add another layer to the trust and confidence that appears to be already building, especially if we come away with a win against a more highly rated foe.

Go Demons!

Fox News has our injury list as follows (note - no mention of Weid):-

MELBOURNE

Dean Kent (hamstring) — 1-2 weeks
Mitch King (elbow) — 1 weeks
Corey Maynard (hip) — indefinite
Pat McKenna (hamstring) — indefinite
Aaron vandenBerg (ankle) — 5 weeks

Adelaide has a bigger list but a few could be back.

ADELAIDE

Brad Crouch (groin) — TBC
Paul Hunter (ankle) — 9-10 weeks
Sam Jacobs (back spasms) — TBC
Alex Keath (ankle) — test
Mitch McGovern (ankle) — 7 weeks
Andrew McPherson (groin) — 1-2 weeks
Wayne Milera (hamstring) — test
Rory Sloane (foot) — TBC
Brodie Smith (knee) — season
Taylor Walker (glute) — test

No wonder the supporters are complaining about injuries.  We should win this with the team they are going to have to roll out.  Hopefully we don't take it a bit easier knowing who is not playing.

Tex Walker said on radio last year after Lever moved to the dees that “if you’re driven by money or you’re driven by success, that’s a decision you need to make”

If I was the coach, I’d have our best 23 focussed on proving this week that our best is more successful than their best.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
