Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

sorry - that just is not correct.  Not by a million miles.  Watch the last three games on replay. Drink every time a pass from Tyson or a forced handball post his pass becomes a turnover.

You NOT sober.

Just don't try the above with Dustin Martin, you'll have a hard time making it past half time.

Tyson is 4th at the club for effective disposals/match, 9th for efficiency. Also in the top 10 in plenty of other categories.

It's easy to pick out what doesn't work while ignoring what does. You see what you want to see.

Viney for Tyson

Garlett for Spargo.

Bull for Weide.

Spargo stays this week if you believe Goody's presser DV.

If you are referring to the period the week after from the Adelaide match i think that is really dependent on the form of both players.

Sticking with your maturity/experience line then it would be either a retention of Pedders from this week or Pedders for Bull if he gets the nod ahead of Pedders this week.  Having said that i think the FD will more likely select on form at both AFL/VFL level (match ups / injury aside) based on the messages / hints coming out of base camp / Goody.

I think we're likely to see Bull come in for Weid & rotate with Trac picking up some mid time...with Tommy doing the relief ruck duties.

I might be wrong but I don't see Pedders as a direct replacement, for me he doesn't play the forward role well enough and his ruck work has been average this season.

Then again they might want to keep the same structure and use the one soldier down another steps up theory with Pedders stepping up.

It will be interesting to see how the FD view this.

Weed was pinch hitting relieving in ruck...if like for like then more probably Pedders ?

Come on Bing.  I'm not a Tyson detractor by any means but he had a mare last weekend by anyone's measurement.

What effective disposals don't measure are the times that you may possess the football and not dispose of it.

Tyson is in that scary place of mental constipation that exists between decision making and execution.

I think part of this comes from the Roos model where if you don't see an obvious option you hold onto or lockdown on the ball and hope to get a ball up decision to reset.

I think Dom has struggled the most with Goddies game plan.

Unfortunately for Dom he doesn't have the strength or acceleration to escape the inside, he has to find a way through with good awareness of the space around him.  If he is not playing instinctively it wont work for him.

It's not only our game plan, it's the way the game is being played with manic pressure on the ball carrier.   Goodwin has tried to give  him some space by popping him on the wing.

Final 22 for me will be

Outs: Weid (inj) Spargo (rested) Tyson (omitted)

Ins: Pedo (like for like), Garlett (like for like), Viney (upgrade)

---

On a side note, there is no way that Rowe and Jones will be able to complete aerobically with Hogan and McDonald. If they both get moving like they have over the past 2 weeks, they will burn those two out very quickly and will be able to get on the end of a few goals.

Yup.  Those two guys are a huge asset for us.  They will win us many games.  Not many key defenders will be able to stick with them all game, and teams will require two of them.

I also have a good feeling we wont tire at the tail end of the season like past years...  we are more mature now and experienced, and have a lot depth.

The bench is going to make all the difference for us against Carlton. Onfield rotations are critical and the selection of the bench can determine a win or loss situation, without doubt.

My preference to match the Carlton team and positive pressure - now that they are selected as potential 'benchers', would be:

  • Pedersen - tough as nails, lethal in packs, shepherding skills, very good kicking for goals and passing. Can ruck/clear packs;
  • Garlett - talent to burn provided he applies forward defensive pressure - worth 2-4 goals per game as mobile fwd;
  • Hunt - capable speedster and ball winner, can clear a whole backline with pace, can overcome slump with support;
  • Smith - worthy of a try, quite impressive skills, hungry for opportunity, intimidating when on the move, another target for team.

This selection also gives a few key newbies a rest - that is required.

I just wish Kent was able to play for drive, rebound, intimidation, speed, passing, goal sense.

These are gut feelings held for the above reasons against the Carlton team who must be shut down across the midfield, the backline and in the ruck/utility role.

We should win this game, after a first half battle. In the final term, we will run away with at least a 30 points lead.

I think there is bit of #tyson myths brewing.

Doesn't have the strength to escape the inside?. Phoeey. His strength is his major asset and why he so often is able to extract the ball from congestion.

Sure he gets pinged for holding a few times but one it is often because he gets the ball in traffic and two in reality it doesn't happen that often.

I think tbe issue for him is two fold. His hands, and perhaps decision making, can somtimes be a little slow.

The second is a technique  thing. He often holds the ball away from the body and the ball gets jarred loose with contact. This means  he sometimes gets pinged where he had no prior where others whohold onto the ball don't.

I have said he is a chance to go out for viney based on the like for like principle  and others like anb and harmes having had good games against  the suns.

But if he doesn't that would be a pretty clear statement by goody about how he rates tyson.

Great points, with our continued ability to enter our forward 50 frequently these two will cause the opposition headaches week in week out.

What a draft gem TMac is turning out to be. Pick 53 defender turned forward and compare him to some of the latest key forwards that were drafted as top picks. Patton, Boyd, Schache and McCartin. Those players couldn’t run out of sight in the dark at the moment.

Oscar will rotate through both, as will Lever.  McKay is a big dinosaur whose gotten a few easy goals in the past few weeks so he doesn't worry me too much.  Curnow likes to get on his bike a bit and get possies up the ground so you might see someone like Hibberd go with him a bit when he does that.

Our backline, however, has been getting better and better over the last few weeks and I don't see that changing this weekend.

Good call, both ways. We need to knock the 5hyte outta them to win the ball more easily.

Could be Viney too.

...or Petracca, or Pedersen, or Hibberd, or even Jesse. Geez, I'd like a Rod Grinter in our team - the lay opponents on their backs gazing up at the clouds in aftershock, to kick 50m passes with dead accuracy, to unsettle anyone in front of him - or behind, or at his side. Grinter gave for the MFC better than anyone - body, mind and soul.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
