Yes, thankyou, I am aware it’s a forum.

Come on mate, you don’t need to tell me how it is. I have to come close to holding the all time record in minutes spent on this forum. I read dozens of views I don’t agree with on a daily basis. The majority I just ignore because I don’t feel strongly enough to argue, or that my case isn’t strong enough, or that I just don’t know enough about the topic to comment, or I just can’t be bothered. I can cope with disagreement.

I take pretty strong exception to people trying to temper the enjoyment of others though. I just don’t see any motive to do that other than sheer nastiness.

The teams we've beaten in the last 3 weeks were all talked up in the press and as we are Melbourne, we are always seen as 'vulnerable'

I think we're getting plenty of momentum and the return of The Beast will make us better

I agree D, the point again is, come Thursday, the FD might choose to rest him or drop him, but in my opinion it will have nothing whatsoever to do with anything the naysayers have put forward on here, and a whole lot to do with who and how we are playing.

Our forward line is working and we're winning.  Why change the structure?

Why? Viney is why.  And Weids is the  3rd stringer tall forward.  And in answer to the first part, he might be playing a role, but i feel others can cover his role and impact the game / scoreboard more often making our forward line more potent.

Positive to win again last night with a few individual standouts.

Enjoying that Goodwin is now sticking with the taller forward-line, clearly it's paying dividends. Really nice to see others bob up in the absence of Hogan and Petracca. Neither of whom had a big influence on the game when it was in the balance. Trac was very quiet, not sure why Goody didn't roll him through the midfield mix to get him into the game. 

Our forward-half game is as good as Richmonds and many stats have us close to number one in that area. However, I refuse to get overly excited for a couple of reasons. Both games against Hawthorn and Richmond, we were made to pay due to our inefficiency going forward and it continues to haunt us. Even against the lowly suns, the amount of times we went inside with little to no care, only to see the ball ping out and go coast to coast into the suns forward line was concerning.

If the inefficiency continues in that manner, we're not going to have a lot of fun against any half decent side. So whilst wins are good and percentage is important, I am yet to be convinced that we can match it against the better sides inside the eight.

I could name six to seven players who were constantly butchering the ball going forward. Whether it's banging it on the boot aimlessly or kicking to the wrong spots, it needs to be addressed. Trac, Brayshaw, Harmes, ANB, Tyson, Melksham and even Jones just weren't using the ball well enough. I can cop a handful having an off day, but not an entire midfield/half forward unit.

ANB and Tyson continue to butcher real opportunities. If Garlett has a good game, I want him in for ANB and Viney in for Tyson.

Seriously, I have zero idea what Goodwin is seeing in Dom atm. So insignificant.

Some are showing themselves to completely lack any understanding of the modern game. 

Often the same tedious muppets who bemoaned Oscar in his first few years are back riding Weideman.

I'm pleased to see a few of the Oscar detractors are now realising the developmental processes for a KPP and backing in Weideman. 

For mine, it's a genius coaching move to develop him in a role that compliments Hogan and Tom McDonald's strengths.

Thats the great thing about footy and forums Daneleska.  There are often differing opinions and its great to discuss them with fair minded ppl like yourself.  Its a pleasure to discuss and pontificate with someone who is not so easily offended and who doesn't take it  personally if you have a different way of putting or seeing things.

I like Pedo, but his ship has sailed. He will only get worse. Weeds's current form is OK at best, but his presence in the team is good, particularly structurally. He at least makes a contest up forward, and provides relief to Max in the ruck.

There was a song in Sound of Music  "How do you solve a problem like Maria?" Delete the name "Maria" and substitute "Tyson". He is a real worry.

IMHO the side looks much better without Wagner and even Jeffy (when he's so out of form/disinterested). Spargo is a revelation. And Fritsch. They just look like players who can play a role and have slotted in well.

Posters' opinions of Lewis have been divided. I have been less than impressed with him. He played a ripper game yesterday. No turnovers or falling over. 

The side has, at last, 6 A graders or potential A graders. Viney Oliver Gawn Hibbert Hogan Petracca (potential) and TMac isago pretty close. A few years  ago the closest to an A grader was Jones.

2 from 2 at the Gabba in 2018.  The game against the Lions was more of a relief than anything particularly satisfing, but last night made up for that.

Certainly a nice feeling and a welcome change for this Queensland based supporter who had only seen embarrassing losses to the Lions at the Gabba over the past 10 years, though the win against GC at Metracon a few years back was fun.

A few observations over the past few weeks and again last night:

1.  My observation last night was that Gawn was getting benched/rested halfway through each quarter and that asides from the last quarter, the period when Gawn was off the ground corresponded in a period of GC accendancy.  This worries me against the better teams.  Perhaps having Viney back will help, but it's certainly something I think the team needs to work on;

2.  Our pick-up in team form has correlated with much better games from Hibbo and Nev, who I though both had below averge starts to the season without being particularly poor;

3.  Lever's is growing in confidence and contribution to the team, but he does have a tendency to overcommitt to the ball in the air at times, which if he misses leaves him totally out of the play and the oppo with an easy outnumber.  When he connects with the ball it's very effective, so I guess it's risk Vs reward.  Lever's disposal is also pretty average at times and I think it's much better when Hibbo dominates our rebounds from the backline than Lever;

4.  As an asides, on the question of what happens with our midfeild upon Viney's return - I'm guessing that Jones plays more outside mid/wing, which would probably be a good thing for our ball movement as he seems to have got himself into some pretty good nick and his improved output compared to the start of the season is another of the reasons the side is playing better overall.  The drive we have got out of Jones since the 3rd quarter of the Essendon game has been very good.

Sorry, I just saw the short reply and didn't realise there was more to come. 

I am happy to admit that I like Weid as I think he has some good attributes and want him to succeed. I agree that we want to see him lift his statistical output especially in terms of marks around the ground.

But from watching games I see a young bloke working hard.  I see a young bloke who is rarely used as a target.  And I see 3 consecutive wins where our other 3 talls have flourished.

To me the things aren't isolated.  Drop Weid and what happens to our structures? I feel he has been playing a big role in that success, regardless of his statistical performance. 

I haven't seen him do anything wrong. He isn't losing many contests.  Doesnt make mistakes with the few disposals he gets.  He doesn't get in the way of the other key forwards.

I'm genuinely interested in what others are seeing. If it just that you think Pedo offers more, that's fine.  I can accept that, although I'm not sure I agree (as Nasher said Pedo plays best info a no.1 role not as a support). But I dont understand the criticism of the Weids game and haven't seen anyone explain i the criticism other than by highlighting his low disposal count.

For the record, I was neither offended nor took it personally about your views on Weideman. Your views and opinion, which you're welcome to, were just wrong. I pointed that out, nothing more.

I just like that we are not relying on the same few players to win these days, it was only 2 or so years back where if Jones, Tyson and Vince didn’t all have good games were toast. It’s like night and day. The fact a player can of Tyson’s ability is now fighting for a spot in the 22 and we can put games into a developing player like Weideman while still winning says it all, almost any other team would kill to be in our shoes. While we might not get there this year it finally feels like we are going to be a team others look at with dread to be playing. Even in the Daniher years we didn’t have that

Loving the work of T Mac.  Leads well, takes big strong grabs, chases, tackles and does all the 1%ers and such a cool head in front of the sticks.  Kicking goals all over the place.  The full forward we've needed the past few years and much more.
