Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

No he doesn't, I expected better from you,  but you have joined the flock, must be a continual disappointment to the experts on here that Goodwin doesn't listen

They pick 22 each week, at the start of the season I said  that the idea of the best 22 in posters minds on here being picked was gone under Goodwin

Nobody is safe in the side, you play your role, you stay in, Harmes, Weid, ANB etc are doing just that

If Viney gets thru this week and performs there should be at least one change, if they want to ease him in in the fwd line then one of the small medium  fwds will go, all their stats are pretty even at the moment, so which one? because the forward line has worked the last couple of games, so why change it?

It should be a mid for mid

because it would be stupid to play exactly the same team against very different opponents week to week?

also, why should we be replacing mids with mids and backs with backs, like you suggest, if goodwin is so focused on all the players playing a variety of roles? salem has played just as much midfield this year as in the backline.. if not more! if they wanted hunt out, they could've got rearranged the team in a variety of other ways. salem was looking good in the midfield and added a toughness that we haven't had since viney, in my opinon. sometimes at the back, salem doesn't get as involved as i'd like.

He was excellent down back against the Bombers that is why he is at half back and Hunt is dropped.

Correct Rocky.  It doesn't have to be exact like for like as long as part of the role they play, along with others, covers the role they are replacing.

A good example next week could be Viney for ANB.   With Harmes / Viney rotating / resting (when not being benched) at HF playing a similar role to ANB (Mid/Forward) and IMO this combination more than capable of doing it better anyway.  The only trouble is this only lasts for a week or so until Viney gets some match fitness back and starts playing a higher percentage of time in the midfield.  Will the FD be happy with Harmes taking on a mid/forward role?

Having said that i think Salem is well suited to replacing Hunt, especially given his high quality disposal by foot.

Garlett averages 1.8 goals per match vs Betts 1.9. He has the odd bad game, tell me a small forward who doesn’t, but has delivered approx 40 goals a season for the Demons. He is in my top 22.

I really like Hunts speed but he has lost some of his mojo, and his kicking needs to improve. A stint in the VFL to focus on improving his kicking, will hopefully help. Then he would be deserving his spot in the 22.

Hannan does some nice things, just needs to do them more often on a week to week basis.

ANB just seems out of form, when Viney comes back, unless ANB does very well this week, I’d give him 3-4 weeks in VFL to find his form.

I’m really enjoying watch Fritsch play, highly skilled and a great decision maker. Spargo has also been lively and seems to have “a good footy brain”, just automatically does the right thing.

If we can't beat this ordinary side by at least 6 goals something is mentally wrong with this side.

Viney would have made a huge difference because we need percentage due to the shockers against the Hawks and Tigs.

Part of me died when Viney was named for Casey. I don't think it's a great move.

Viney is one player that can step up to AFL level straight away.

Hasn't played in 9 mnths. IF we can't win without him up here we are stuffed pretty much anyway.

I have finally seen the St Kilda game for the first time. I can't understand why people think Salem should have come in for ANB. They play completely different roles. Salem replaces Hunt because Hunt is the worst performing small defender and Salem will play that role. When Viney returns, then ANB might go out of the side. But - subject to this weekend's performance -  even then, I think ANB's spot in the side is safer than Hannan's.

Harmes will go out for Viney, unless he can really make himself unstoppable this week.

Harmes has been playing defensive mid in Viney's absence. They might switch Harmes into ANB's position, but I doubt.

Harmes does have a good goal scoring record against the Suns...

I cant be stuffed finding the actual post...but i seem to remember last season with a certain player out of favour that i suggested "it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he was playing elsewhere next season (this season ) " and he is.

Im going to say exactly that again re Hunt. I doubt hell be at Melb in 2019.

Hope im wrong.

There's a lot to play out this year...only some on the ground.

Go Dees

We are all impatient; we all know what Hunt is capable of in our game. He will hit a purple patch by late July, just watch.

Hard to hit that patch if not selected.

ANB...more lives than a cat.

I suspect it's not purely a matter of form alienating Hunt.

You could be onto something here beelzebub.

Goody appears to be a person of intense focus and narrow vision.

If he likes what he sees, he will cut players more slack than he should. But if he doesn't, it bodes very poorly for the player.

We have many players but only 1 coach and he calls the shots. Hunt may well be in his sights to be traded for another hard nut.

We are so one paced with hard nuts it isn't funny any more. ANB Salo Harmes Trac Jones Tyson not to mention Bernie and Lewis are all lacking in pace.

We get opened up easily partly because opposition teams can out run us and then open up the forward space.

It seems the coach does not mind that, as long as we can get the ball inside 50 and score.

His predecessor taught the players a very different approach.

I really don't mind Goodwin putting his stamp on us, but he will not get the 6 years Hardwick got to make it work.

The coach's favorites syndrome concerns me because it may lead a different type of player to be undervalued. Hunt may fall into that bracket.

Watching the Hawks and Swans last night simply reinforced my view of how far away we are from Top 4. Both sides had plenty of both grunt and speed. We focus on one, at the expense of the other.

Will be disappointed if we can't put away Gold Coast today, but beating bottom 6 teams hardly makes us special when we get smacked by the top teams.

Hunt and Jeff's pace can have a role to play for the side. Whether that role is required in the 29 match coaching box is an entirely different question. ANB does not have this burden.

I've had a number of people ( who might well know far more than I, considering their exposure to and of the club) that there's a kinda generic model in mind. All of Goodwin, Mahoney, Viney and Macca like the hard at the contest player....its what THEY WERE !!!

Roos saw you needed all types.....not just one speed Spartan Gladiator types

He(they) seem have favourites ?

We aren't nearly as astute at using space as some teams ( understatement )

Bingo

Had it put to me....get on the wrong side of some.....and it's a long long way back...( Cut lunch via the door )

All in the back of peoples' minds, this stuff. We think about it and the more often 'rather unexpected decisions' are made, the more that we feel vindicated about out suspicions. Beelzebub raises some good points in this regard that trigger alarm bells but why does this internally totalitarian regime wish to do it yet again to the MFC just because they can?

Harmes had a top 10 game for us last week stats wise and seemed to play his role very well from what i saw on the day and in his highlights from AFL StatsPro.  Had ANB ranked 22nd last week.  For the season so far i have Harmes ranked 13th statistically vs ANB 25th.

However, if ANB plays a very solid game and Harmes has an off week then it might go the way you are suggesting.  Anything's possible.

They were / are playing different roles i realise but i think Harmes can cover ANB, even if spending  significant time forward.  Neither are really going to worry the scorer very often but both bring reasonable forward pressure according to the stats, with Harmes bringing elite inside 50 tackles and elite spoiling (in general).  Starting to hit a few more targets now also which is an improvement on some past efforts.  Harmes also has some extra break away / burst power through the legs and upper body which is handy at times in congestion to break the odd tackle, keep his feet and find a bit of extra space / time >>  targets up field by foot or by hand when being tackled.

You must see something different every time the coach reviews a game and then what he does the following week.

Time will tell and after waiting 54 years l am happy if this coach succeeds and will be happy to get the vision of a new one if he fails.

Supporting this club for 6 decades has taught me mantra "facta non verba".

Actions not words.

I believe its about Ego. There's a shared belief among some that this IS the way. It's no accident we have the personnel there now.

Garlett is a one trick pony and soft. 2 things Goody doesn't like. When Garlett is on his game he is brilliant like his game against Brisbane but he doesn't play those games enough. When his tackling pressure is up and he's kicking goals that's when he's useful but he doesn't do those things often enough.

He's a long way from senior selection IMO.

Perfect example of 'front runner'.

I wonder, IF, we would consider trading him?

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
