Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Contact between St Kilda’s Jake Carlisle and Melbourne’s Jesse Hogan from the third quarter of Sunday’s match was assessed. The ball was kicked through for a point with Carlisle and Hogan coming towards the goal square, after the ball has passed the line and registered a score. On the behind-goal vision, Carlisle turns toward Hogan and makes contact with an open hand to the throat area of the Melbourne player. The umpire in control of the play is within five metres and pays a free kick to Hogan for high contact. It was the view of the Match Review Officer that there was high contact made to the Melbourne player and the contact was not excessively exaggerated by Hogan. It was also the view of the match review officer that the force used in the contact was below that required for a charge to be laid, and no further action was required after the free kick was paid.

A very good summary.

The reaction from the media at large was ridiculous yet not in the least surprising. All rushing to condemn Jesse, many of them clearly doing so without having looked closely enough at the incident to notice the second action made by Carlisle. Jesse may have added some dressing but his reaction is within the realms of plausibility.

At least the person who matters most (Christian) let common sense prevail, although I would've thought striking someone in the throat is worthy of a reprimand given their crackdown on the dreaded jumper punch.

I don't doubt he got a chop in the throat and I also have no doubt he put a lot of mayonnaise on his reaction by falling to the ground.

If he gets pinged for any form of staging then it would be completely warranted that Carlisle cops a whack for his Bruce Lee throat jab.

Still, AFL players have still got a long way to go before we catch up with those muppets that kick the round ball.

Check out old mate at 35 seconds in this video. Now that's how to milk a throat punch.

It is insane.   Cant believe this is the big story of the day

He got hit in the throat, but Jesse is the bad guy?  So pathetic

If they start calling people out for staging half of the Geelong team will be reported every week.

it is the umpire that blew the free that should be questioned, not the player.

also, it is not in a Hogan’s interests to go to ground there.  His interest is getting in position for the kick in.

in the martial arts we teach it is more effective to use an open hand to strike the throat like this and used properly, a low impact strike can have devastating consequences.

carlisle is lucky, as the strike carries severe risk.

hogan’s response was appropriate.

commentators can find something else to be outraged about

perhaps a little OOT to sue for defamation RGS but I suspect if it was one of Eddie's players we would see some push back.

We should have been shaping the story last night... by inserting doubt the debate would have been about.." was it a dive".. Now it is accepted in the media that it was.

Definitely a bit of an overreaction, but after decades of doing nothing and letting all and sundry walk over us, I want a strong and forceful reaction, over the top or not.

a strike to the throat, even low impact is extremely dangerous, am not surprised Hogan went back. The headlines “Diving Hogan...” is more over the top and it is defamatory, it is time we fought back and said that we aren’t anyone’s doormats anymore. If we ignore it, then as a club, we are still soft.

I can't work out why, if they focus on this, they don't focus on the jab to the scone that Nev copped. If they're after scandal then it's a scandal if Mr Christian doesn't single that out on his video recorder.

christian can't review 18 hours of replays, surely. maybe he just didn't watch that bit or was fast-forwarding to fast, or none of his sp[otters pointed it out. He didn't even make any comment about it.

Another example:

Jesse Hogan was not penalised for an incident against the Saints that drew attention, when he went down dramatically in the goalsquare after being bumped by Jake Carlisle. Hogan was awarded a free kick at the time”

by some pathetic dog from the Age, written after Christian said there was a grab at the throat.

It still mystifies me, though doesn't surprise me that the litmus is whether Jesse was staging ?

FMD....

It's irrelevant how Hogan reacts...the TRANSGRESSION is the DOG act by mongel Carlisle. What an absolute [censored] !!

Can argue that Carlisle action was worse than Hawkins touching an umpire.

This game can be bizarre at times.

My apologies, it was a clear push to the throat, to me from the other angle it looked like the chest, I was wrong. (still soft by Hogan though).

Good man ;)

Reality is ...thump someone in shoulder....yeah whatever...

Get a jab in the throat.... you WILL recoil.

Its a dog act.

Good on Mahoney for jumping on SEN earlier and scolding the media for the unjustified and error ridden criticism of the throat jab by Carlisle, which clearly showed Hulk being jabbed in the throat as he moved towards the goals and Carlisle.

Hogan was off balance as he moved his head back in an instinctive reaction to try and to avoid full impact, then fell backwards as the jab impacted.  At no stage did he flop onto his back as if struck by lightning nor throw his hands out to exaggerate the impact as some of the scribes have attempted to mislead some to believe.

His only reaction afterwards was to to alert the ump of the impact.  Big deal, i've been watching the likes of the Hawks, Eagles, Essendrug etc emphasise what they feel are genuine free kicks for years and getting favourable outcomes from the umpiring fraternity as a result on many occasions.

Well done Hulk.  Having a fine year so far!

My god. Still people on here saying it was soft. He pushed him high up enough for the leverage to push him back. He didn't stage, he got caught by surprise. Simple as that.

About time Christian should go the way of the lions, i'm afraid.

What's worse, a bite/more dangerous on the neck area or a chop to the throat?

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
