Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Weak supporters don’t cough up for memberships for 35+ years and donate money to the club and travel to most interstate games from my own pocket as well as all Victorian games. I call it as I see it, some don’t like it, on this occasion I got it wrong as I assumed the umpire didn’t see it front on and from the footage I saw it looked like the chest, as did some commentators. I also give credit where’s its due. Not many on here even apologise for being wrong, but I always do. I’m still going to say that Hogan went to ground easily, the force didn’t appear strong and Hogan is a big boy, it is what it is, all I care about is winning the next two games.

I get things wrong too and i usually do apologise but the issue here is the Media with preconceived, long held opinions on (A) a player in this Club and a bloody good one at that, who has just got through a tragedy in his life, and (B) a Club that is trying its guts out to be relevant, and keeps on getting snide remarks about its personnel and it's ability............and has been for years, as if it should be passed down from one Media Generation to another. Eloquence will always overcome angst!!!!!

I wonder if any in the media will be big enough to publicly withdraw their OTT criticism. I won’t hold my breath.

Barrett, Lloyd and Bartel need to apologise. In their Access All Areas video on afl.com.au, they openly stated that Hogan would be "ashamed of his overreaction" and would "cop an automatic fine for staging". They just openly maligned Hogan's reputation.

No mention of, or look at, the goal-post video, and just an assumption based on the only (limited) footage available at the time.

Pretty poor form to make the judgements without looking at all the angles first however I was quite surprised that Lloyd admitted it was something he used to do during his career and needed to deal with.

They also maligned the umpire who was right there and clearly without hesitation said hit to the throat?

Are these guys all deaf as well as the blind and dumb we already know about?

And Lloyd of course knows all about diving, though he usually did dive forward.

But no.

Footy Classified didnt even mention the incident at all. No retraction from Lloyd.  The media know they've embarrassed themselves the last 24 hours.

P ..... surely embarrassment requires insight, so I doubt if any would actually be embarrassed

The media is the media. Nothing is going to change. We can jump up and down but will anything change. In the short term.....no, as we have few friends in their ranks. For years we have been one of the whipping boys and that's the way it is.  Added to that is the stereotypical remarks about top end of town, members, snow, go number 9, and all the other crap that just gets regurgitated every year.

Only long term sustained success and a hard nosed club that takes no prisoners is going to change the perception and attitude of the media and others.

I must admit, like a few others, I would prefer Goodwin to take a stronger stand on behalf of his players, although my guess is that he does not want to give the media any more ammunition.

The prblem with this is that the media have already piled on saying "Jesse did this last year and needs to eradicate it out of his game" etc

It's total Bullshiite and he will now have a 'reputation' as a stager like Lindsay Thomas etc.

The club needs to defend Jesse strongly and tell the muppets in the media to [censored] off.

And while we are at it what Jetta getting punched in the face? The club should make a stand on this as well.

That is absolute bullsh*t. If the media think they can get away with calling Jesse a stager then they really have another thing coming.

Some of the drivel and rhetoric coming out of the media is embarrassing.

Good to see Lewis defend Jesse on AFL 360 last night when the question was put to him.

Lewis said Jesse received unfair treatment and Jesse was actually hurt by the comments. Went on to say he would like to see if any other player would be left standing after a jab/shove like that.

Slobbo then asked why Carlisle wasn’t reported to which Lewis replied that’s another question isn’t it.

Really feel for Jessie.

He gets rubbed out for 2 weeks last year for a lesser act of aggression yet this attack on him gets viewed as it all his fault.

I've been thinking about the terrible events that Jesse went through last year - losing a father, surviving cancer - picks himself up and plays brilliantly - and now these baboons lay this crap on him. Sorry I've got nothing original to add - just getting it off my chest, but what a pack of scumbags.

Similarly; why wasn't Hawkins smashing the GWS player post-mark looked at, not just the aftermath with umpire?

Hogan has been cleared by the MRP.  Christian determined there was contact to the throat and, therefore, the reaction was not exaggerated.

Common sense prevails for once!

Sadly, common sense also dictates without hesitation that Carlisle must absolutely receive an official penalty of some significance for his unsportsmanlike action to Hogan's throat - and we do not care if it is retrospective - meaning today or in the next few days. Without that AFL response, the whole system of fair play AFL is in jeopardy. Evidence is evidence ... please explain to Hogan and the MFC why it has not been actioned!

Carlisle is most fortunate he plays in today's sanitised times.

In days of yore such scumbag act would have been addressed immediately. He would have been decked !! ...deservedly.

There are two different processes which ultimately lead to the same result. Umpires can report on the day, with that report requiring Michael Christian to decide whether it deserves of a penalty he determines or whether it should be referred directly to the tribunal. Separately, after viewing video footage Michael Christian can make his own determination on any matter he considers worthy of his attention which was not the subject of a match day report by the umpires.

In this instance, because the umpire(s) on the day chose not to report Carlisle, it was left to Christian to decide whether Carlisle's actions deserved scrutiny.

A coach (Chris Scott?) has recently questioned whether there is any need for umpires to report players any more given the MRO process. I can see his point given there is this other process. However, it may be that umpires having the power to report may help them keep control of a game which might otherwise become rapidly inflamed.

afl site still running the "stop the flopping" review with bartels, purple and lloyd

you'd think they could at least change the heading of "stop the flopping, boys"

re watching it, it just makes them look like fools especially lloyd whose remarks were very pointed

Hogan gets chopped in the throat and its ignored.  Jetta gets punched in the face and its ignored.

Barrett and Co should do the right thing and apologise to Jesse.

Gawn has also come out and said Jesse was hurt by the accusation of 'staging'.  Its good to see our players stick up for each other.

I suspect the media will continue to besmirch players but perhaps this episode will make them think twice before making false accusations.  Yes, I know - pigs will fly!

Jesse is a proud young man who has shown a great deal of integrity and deserves better.

yeah, and then the media will [censored] when certain players won't give them interviews or clam up when being interviewed.

Has Jessie refused interviews, dc?  Maybe the club (rightly) protected his privacy a bit last year and kept him away from the media and he is known to be very private.

But gee, if media folk can't tell the difference between a private person and a difficult person then they are lower and dumber than I thought they were.

I'm just glad we have Lewis and Gawn (our two vice captains) with regular media gigs who can speak up on mfc matters.  Helps balance the scales a little bit.

FMD....

It's irrelevant how Hogan reacts...the TRANSGRESSION is the DOG act by mongel Carlisle. What an absolute [censored] !!

Dog act is totally correct BB. I used to do martial arts a fair time ago now, but one particular strike i remember is just that, to the throat area and can drop a person to the ground in a second. Its not a recommended strike by any standard and is banned in most clubs. In fact you are always taught to spa with your chin down in case of an accidental contact to the throat. Definitely only used for street fights where your life is in danger. Dog. Should severe warning and time off.

It beggars belief that it's just been glossed over. As you correctly identify it's a very dangerous thing to do. The AFL and media lapdogs at their 'finest'. ?

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
