Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Disappointed but there is also a cockiness within the team also that needs to be put to bed, Hogan also gobbed off at Carlisle before missing the easy shot on goal. A few weeks back v Hawks he rubbed David Mirra’s Head after a stuff up, was pretty much the turning point of the game. Also noticing a few cocky incidents during games, Lever last week. We have to remember where we came from and step down off our pedastal IMO.

are you talking about Lever bouncing up and down on 3qtr time trying to rev the boys up?

Sorry SF but I have no issues at all with what Hulk did on the weekend and some degree of cockiness is fine provided the players / team are performing most weeks.  I think the two are mutually exclusive myself.  Admittedly the rubbing of the head was a dumb badly timed move given that it was Mirra who lead Hulk to the fall of the ball and got into the position that Hulk should have been, even though Mirra dropped the pill.  There's a fair difference between being cocky and being a smart arse IMO.  I can't stand seeing players do the latter.

But good players and teams are more than capable of playing good footy while also being a little cocky at the same time.  I've been watching the likes of the Hawks play cocky / in your face football for decades and getting away with it much of the time, as well as having a stack of success while doing so.  Doesn't effect their performance one iota!

Keep up the good work Demons.  We are on track!

And we wonder why so many men in this country get away with unnecessary violence against one another and against women.

Jesse is cleared so at least common sense prevailed. Just wish Goodwin wasn’t so weak and actually stood up for his players. He defends them when they perform like crap, but he doesn’t stand up for his star forward he is being branded a soft diver. My mind boggles.

The commentators kept saying Hogan staged, but NOT ONE saw the contact. Every piece of footage during the game was from behind.

Even so, you can see there were 2 blows even if you can't say exactly what the second one did.  No excuse for the commentators.  Too keen to rush to judgement.

Here's the response from the club.

Melbourne feels vindicated about the MRO’s decision, and footy boss Josh Mahoney has bit back at the reporting of the play.

“The reaction has been excessive in the commentary about this incident,” he told SEN’s Time On.

“When you consider the vision that was made available, you can maybe understand people’s reaction, but in light of the vision that has come out more recently, people can say they probably hung Jesse out to dry for the last 24 hours.

“The commentary has been excessive. No player wants to be linked to staging, it has gone through the MRO process and we are happy he has been cleared.”

My apologies, it was a clear push to the throat, to me from the other angle it looked like the chest, I was wrong. (still soft by Hogan though).

For the life of me I cannot understand this reaction. Is it just possible that Hogan was not  expecting it ? Did he go down holding his throat and roll around like he had been hit by a Bazooka ? If he overreacted when he went to ground then yes...call him soft...but he got straight back up again. I think I’d prefer to give him the benefit of doubt rather than label him soft because he got pushed in the the throat and went to ground.

Fair play to BT who when shown the footage from behind the goals on Talking Footy admitted that he was wrong and apologised.

Wayne Carey also asked the question why a strike to the throat wasn’t worthy of a sanction.

I await the retractions of other buttheads like Matthew Lloyd but won’t hold my breath.

Matthew Lloyd is still trying to work out how there were 3 premiers in the AFLX. He may have worked out by round 16 that Hogan copped a jab to the throat.

Anyone still berating Jesse after the new footage came out should line up to be whacked in the throat by him to see how the react.

I am guessing they wont volunteer for that though.

What do you think of the incident?

You should tweet this twit and ask her for an apology for writing this dribble.

Hogan was awarded a free kick, but the karma gods denied him a goal.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-05-07/match-review-full-statement-round-seven

Contact between St Kilda’s Jake Carlisle and Melbourne’s Jesse Hogan from the third quarter of Sunday’s match was assessed. The ball was kicked through for a point with Carlisle and Hogan coming towards the goal square, after the ball has passed the line and registered a score. On the behind-goal vision, Carlisle turns toward Hogan and makes contact with an open hand to the throat area of the Melbourne player. The umpire in control of the play is within five metres and pays a free kick to Hogan for high contact. It was the view of the Match Review Officer that there was high contact made to the Melbourne player and the contact was not excessively exaggerated by Hogan. It was also the view of the match review officer that the force used in the contact was below that required for a charge to be laid, and no further action was required after the free kick was paid.

Just flabbergasted that the investigation was primarily of Hogan's actions and not on Carlisle's!

What's worse, a bite/more dangerous on the neck area or a chop to the throat?

In this the year of the clergy child abuse royal commission, one could say that Christians have lost a fair bit of credibility - this is one more hit.

They should be talking about Hogan putting the season from hell behind him to be in career best, All Australian form.

But no.

Footy Classified didnt even mention the incident at all. No retraction from Lloyd.  The media know they've embarrassed themselves the last 24 hours.

Yep, talked it up early last year that he liked us playing on the edge.
Couple players stepped over in Oliver and Bugg and he hung them out to dry in front of the media.
Should have circled the wagons and told the media parasites to nick off.
Players like to know the coach has their backs and if he doesn't they're not gonna play as hard for him.

I asked news to apologise, they didn’t recognise my strong comment

Apparently BT to his credit apologised on Talking Footy for his on air comments.

It’s the ones who came out firing in the cold light of day after having a chance to properly review the tape that should be apologising. Are their eyes painted on? How did they not see Carlisle’s second action? Why did they need the goal post footage? I genuinely don’t understand. My eyes are shithouse and I saw him strike the throat when it happened live.

Weak supporters don’t cough up for memberships for 35+ years and donate money to the club and travel to most interstate games from my own pocket as well as all Victorian games. I call it as I see it, some don’t like it, on this occasion I got it wrong as I assumed the umpire didn’t see it front on and from the footage I saw it looked like the chest, as did some commentators. I also give credit where’s its due. Not many on here even apologise for being wrong, but I always do. I’m still going to say that Hogan went to ground easily, the force didn’t appear strong and Hogan is a big boy, it is what it is, all I care about is winning the next two games.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
