Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The Jesse Incident

There were actually 2 actions from Carlisle, first the chest bump then a jab to the chest/throat/neck (hard to determine from camera angle) which he got the free for. Not sure if this was picked up because on first viewing it looked like a delayed dive from the chest bump but there was clearly a second action from Carlisle.

Were you in the same position as the umpire?  He had absolutely no hesitation in paying the free and saying he went for the throat.

What do you think of the incident?

Disappointed but there is also a cockiness within the team also that needs to be put to bed, Hogan also gobbed off at Carlisle before missing the easy shot on goal. A few weeks back v Hawks he rubbed David Mirra’s Head after a stuff up, was pretty much the turning point of the game. Also noticing a few cocky incidents during games, Lever last week. We have to remember where we came from and step down off our pedastal IMO.

I love it when we draw long bows on this site.

Ump paid a free kick instantly, meaning he was hit high. He didn't fake it in a pack or just fall over. Carlisle jabbed him in the throat and he fell. Nothing more than that.

Well actually, I didn’t draw any bow, was more commenting on the cockiness of the side. About time you starting letting go of your ego and letting others have their say.

This is exactly the same as the Clarry thing a few years ago. You don’t know exactly what happened unless you were involved. It’s very possible the fall was unintentional as a result of the impact and shock of being punched in the throat.

I’m happy to criticise our players to a point  if they’ve clearly done something wrong (the Bugg incident last year for example), but if I’ll always give a Melbourne player benefit of the doubt if there’s room for it, and clearly there is in this case. I reckon starting a thread labelled “that dive” is very poor form and not in the spirit of supporting the club.

Nev Jetta was punched to the head. No free or no comment from the commentators.

the McCartin hit on nev was also late and could easily have been a 50.

I must need my prescription checked. On closer look he does get hit in the throat. I initially thought the fall was a delayed reaction to the bump inorder to get a free.

He actually staggers a bit a falls back. He goes down from surprise more than anything.

Frame by frame you can see Carlisle's hand momentarily at Hogans throat. The umpire was talking to Carlisle and about 10 metres away looking at them. The umpire did not guess he saw it. Free to Hogan no problem. Commentators like Watson besmirch the reputation of umpires and the victim when they  make a call like this when they have not seen the incident. Hogan may or may not have over reacted, he was looking at the umpire as he was going down. But the throat contact happened.

I love how someone like that peanut Selwood can dive around every week and be lauded as tough and incidents like this are highlighted. Pathetic.

The radio comments were also rather disparaging at a personal level. Have no difficulty with the club getting on the front foot about this one. Oliver was sacrificed to the powers that be.. let's not see it happen again.

If Hogan is suspended it will be a joke and a travesty of justice.

Last year he got two weeks for an identical incident when Jed Lamb (whose club later claimed 'delayed concussion') went down from a feather touch.   On that reckoning it is Carlisle who should be suspended.

Talk of suspending Hogan is just another example of some in the media preferring to lambaste Melbourne at every opportunity.  If Hogan is suspended the club must challenge it and go to the Tribunal.

I remember when this happened.. Nifty seemed less than amused and even lesser still i think there was no repercussion.

Yep, he was pushed, clearly, and fell backwards (try doing that yourself without being pushed). He didn't wave his arms around seeking a free kick, the umpire was right there and blew the whistle straight away. Should be encumbent on the umpire to explain why he erroneously immediately gave a free kick, rather than Jesse have to explain his actions.

It's not a "dive". Look this body jolt with the impact. He fell backwards. You can't fake that. Granted, he was more than happy to accept the free kick and let Carlisle know about it, but its not a dive.

You are correct BT, falling backwards is not diving! :pj:

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
