Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

In:  Viney

Out:  ANB

Harmes & Viney spend roughly 50% of time through the middle / forward (filling ANB's role till Kent returns).  Viney effectively in a quasi resting role during his stints there.  Safer option for Jack than a stint in the McGoos and higher standard all round.

Doubt they would risk rushing Salem back this week.

Bernie played well but he has played 3 games in 11 days, hes 32 and its a long season. We need  players fresh for the back half of the season when things really heat up.

Agree mate. Possibly Weideman for Garlett if we want to go in smaller also. In better shape now and winning with Viney, Salem and Garlett still to come back in.

Weideman is in the unique position whereby his influence on games individually won’t be judged as harshly due to the structural flexibility we’re afforded when he plays.

At the moment it’s working a treat.

Weed provides Gawn the rest he needs which is unbelievably important. Gawn becomes a super threat up forward also when Hoges is roaming up the field and T-Mac Is playing forward.

Weed playing forward also gives us the licence to play Tom Mac in a number of positions. He becomes the ultimate swingman which is a massive headache for the oppo.

I think it changes our look completely and is suited to the way we play. We’re not blessed with super skilled players and we struggle to hit targets going forward. So having a taller forward line is much more conducive to that style of play.

Stevethemanjordan absolutely right.  Gawn, TMac and Weid combo pack is proving very important. At some point we just have to back Weid in and let him develop.

If Salem is fit that poses a dilemma (remember when we didn't have dilemmas) as does Garlett.

I think the team could benefit for the psychological boost of not having many changes to what is seen to be a winning team that really places pressure on those on the fringes and increases our belief that we will prevail.

ANB has to make way for Viney.

Agree with this. Having max "resting" floating around grabbing marks whilst Tmac is running riot is great flexibility and dynamism. Hard to match. (At least until we run into better opposition).

plus he jagged two. Goals are still goals.

I'm not particularly a fan of Weideman, but I do like the three tall forwards. Whilst I would prefer Pedersen to play, I'd still rather Weideman play than neither. Amazing though that three weeks ago we played Hogan as the only tall - what an absolute debacle that selection meeting was.

Neal-Bullen surely has to come out - he has had about five last chances now and he continues to regress. Viney plays if genuinely fit, otherwise Garlett given that he starred in his last game at the Gabba. I'm assuming Salem won't be right - if he is, maybe Hunt comes out.

I still have grave concerns about the ability of Melksham, Fritsch and Hannan to play in the same side. We look much better with Garlett in the side, assuming his attitude is up to scratch.

Amazed that no one has Weid out. Was serviceable and is coming along nicely but unless we are completely wedded to the three tall forwards then it's Weid and ANB (or possibly Hunt but I don't think so) for Viney and Salem. Fritsch and Harmes will just play more forward time with Viney in the guts and Salem back.

I agree

I think it will be:

Out- Weids

In- Salem (or Garlett if Salem does not pass the medical)

No need to bring Viney back yet and have him do the long trip.

Agree NO change unless there is an injury on track. Weid stays and does the relief ruck work as Tommy isn't match fit enough yet to take on rucking duties. Salem will not be back from a brokem thumb after 1 week and personally I would give Viney time at Casey as he has had no match time since last year.

Really? I think we're much better with the three of them rather than Garlett. More pressure further up the ground and closer to goal, better marking options. Melksham is a great field kick.

Wonder why I'm negative. Must be all those finals we've played in recently?

If you play ordinary against a terrible side it doesn't help you against better sides. It's a simple concept.

I think this season you're seeing teams win games off the back of average football. I thought we came reasonably close to contending with Richmond for three quarters and we played terribly. Sure the opposition this week were average but I guess its a positive we're winning games playing average football. We're just outworking teams without being polished a lot of the time. I don't really know what the benchmark is yet, we haven't seen it yet. Is it the Adelaide game last year? I don't know....

I think our defensive effort and contested ball against Richmond was far better than against the Saints. If we defended like we did against Richmond then the Saints wouldn't have scored for 3/4's. Or at least 1 goal 7 knowing them.

Good call. Bernie was running up and down and couldn't jump in the last. He's 32. Mad not to rest , and save the trip to Brisbane which is a bit of a hike as well.

The last thing we want is some VFL clown looking for 15 minutes of fame by ironing Jack out and possibly further delaying his return.

That clown would want to hope Viney doesnt't get up again.

I say keep him until the Carlton game. They will think they're a chance against us and seeing JV in and raring to go will give them second thoughts.

It is GC, actually a good team for Viney to play against, reckon he can skip VFL. Jeffy needs to prove he should be there. Hunt saved by his run, Salem I read was a busted thumb (@ base)? is this correct he is going to need a few needles for that a bowman's fracture is nasty...

Weid stays, i'm tipping he will kick 3.

Weideman will not be dropped. Just listen to Goodwin praise him. He is needed for second ruck which he is doing very well and he is an important part of our future. Apart from his high marking and tackling, Tmac’s  foot/toe will not be risked in the ruck. Tmac is now a multi faceted footballer up and down the ground that is crucial in that role and our structure is so much better as a result of it.

Viney a definite starter. Things are tracking along ok we are getting the game on our terms, we really buffeted the Saints when I watched the replay they would be bloody sore today. Clarry will benefit from Viney and Brayshaw is the cream. Not sure who comes out Harmes was good again. ANB is playing a role for us and I'm thinking that satisfies the coaches.

I think both Viney and Salem come back in.  Who for will be tough.  I'd also like Garlett to come back in with our new structure up forward as he's able to provide more opportunities than Hannan IMO.

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
