Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

He's really torn.  He's happy to stay at West Coast, but is under significant family pressure to come home.

Connors comment was that if he stays his family may be lukewarm towards him for a month, but they'll get over it.

I suspect he'll come back and it will most certainly be to North, but it's not an easy decision for him.

I expect that he will announce his decision early next week. Andrew had another meeting with North last night to tick of the remaining boxes before he decides which way he goes (with the meeting I gather being held to advise North of his decision one way or the other).

It’s been reported that he has ‘supposedly’ informed his teammates that he’s chosen to leave and head to North. If that was fact, by now I would’ve thought a bunch of drunken loose lipped Eagles players could’ve potentially spilt the beans to friends, family or even media. Footy news travels fast in this two-team town and for there still to be no definitive confirmation makes me wonder. Even his managers colleague hesitated when last interviewed about who it was down to.

I think it’s reasonable for those who believe there’s still something going on to keep the flame lit just as much as those who believe it’s a done deal with North want to extinguish the flame.

This late eagles interest in Hogan definitely throws a cat amongst the pigeons.

Melbourne haven't been in the hunt for weeks.

I reported what his manager said, but for some reason people want to hold on to ill-considered hope that is predicated by nothing more than their imagination.

With respect, that’s old news.

If list managers just decided to rest on their laurels and not look at any other machinations as they unfolded, I’d be very surprised. The Eagles interest in Hogan is one such machination that will impact Gaff.

Gotta keep an open mind, Pro.

His manager stated "he won't be going to Melbourne because he doesn't like the role they have in mind for him".

It's cut and dried - and over.

But by all means, hang on to whatever you want to.

Reminds me of Howe going to Collingwood to play in the forward line. Do players really believe what they are told at interview? Maybe we are too honest.

Mr Gaff where would you like to play and how much training would you like to do? Oh Mr Gaff you'll fit right in here, sign on the dotted line.

I can’t believe his manager either for that matter. Honestly, "he won't be going to Melbourne because he doesn't like the role they have in mind for him" sounds like a flimsy argument to begin with.

Well you can think that but it's exactly what I've heard from a completely independent and totally reliable source.

It's very disappointing but it is what it is.

This has got me completely stuffed. Surely you play footy for the success? If you are a Gaff standard player then you will have a choice of good clubs whose lists are primed for success. If it comes down to the dollars then pick the one who has the most room in their cap.

I get if you are a Tyson or Kent grade player then your options will be limited, fair enough you have fewer choices and go where you can.  For Gaff, however, he has actively chosen a Club that plays predominantly in Tassie or at Etihad. They have an average list and a crap jumper (admittedly I probably place more importance on this than he does) and he will rarely play in front of large crowds (think of all the times our players have mentioned when interviewed the 90,000+ crowds - the joy in Harmesy voice when talking about getting stuck into Selwood on the Members wing in the elinination final). Gaff can forget about all that.

Most importantly though can anyone see Nth challenging for a flag in the near future? To me it's madness that he has chosen them

Maybe Gaff has a good deal to live with since the 'incident' of this year. Maybe Gaff is realising that footy, for him, just ain't the driving life force it was previously and that his next few seasons are going to be a history that he does not wish to live with the world recalling his brain snap within that 'incident'. The bigger the pay cheque in the next few seasons, the earlier he can depart and perhaps, get on in life with other domains of beyond football pursuits, with the supporting remuneration cavalcade  convincingly underpinning such choices.  Going to North would otherwise have its questionable merits.

Is his manager steering him to accept only the highest offer? It would - even at the smallest existing numerators - mean a considerably increased bonus for that manager's hip pocket, and I feel that this can occur in all 3rd party interactions.

Wants to play inside mid I think. Something we don't need more of, but oddly North have quite a few as well.

Yes, of course his agent is going to steer him towards the money, that’s how the manager’s living is derived. Gaff is a grown adult though and can make his own choice. I recently took the lower of two offers on a property I sold because I preferred the terms, in spite of the estate agent’s push to take the larger offer.

West Coast have up until Monday 15 October to match any RFA offer and force a trade:

Friday, 5 October: Restricted free agency offer and unrestricted free agency period starts.
Monday, 8 October 10am: NAB AFL Trade Period starts.
Friday, 12 October 5pm: Close of restricted free agency offer and unrestricted free agency period.
Monday, 15 October 2pm: AFL restricted free agency matching offer three-day period ends.

There's time for plenty of water to flow under this bridge.

Said this to a WCE fan that thinks Gaff for Hogan is fair.

"If we don't want to give you Hogan, then you're left with whatever you get for Gaff from the NM trade either a compo pick, or what Nm can trade you if you match. Therefore our bargaining chip is that all we have to do is give you what NM can comparatively give you. I think Hogan satisfies that end already.

Now you need to give us a better offer than what Freo will have to give, to make us want to give you Hogan. We're asking two top 10 picks. Gaff may be a high quality player, but as an RFA he doesn't really come with that much value as you're not exactly going to get that much from NM if you match.

So as we're ontrading a top 10 pick for Steven May in the Freo deal. What we need are picks from you that can get us Steven May. If we get Gaff + May then that beats Freo's Pick 10 & S. May. That will make us want to come on board and get Hogan to WCE. Free agency sucks for the clubs, but thats what the players association won."

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
