Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Go and get Gaff!

I'll beg to differ on this thread. I reckon Gaff is a waste of time. A soft outside player who isn't overly quick. Never liked him.

He'd be a good get. But it would mean we've gone away from the contested ball identity we've been on about under Goody. Many think we need X amount of inside players and Y amount of outside. Under the current list management structure, they've gone for ALL contested beasts. Even the FF is expected to drift in the middle and clear the ball. So it wouldn't surprise me to see us overlook him, or just not offer as much as, say, the Saints who would offer a first rounder and more for him.

I dislike paying big money for players unless they are really, really structurally useful.

There's definitely an argument for Gaff to provide the blade in a midfield full of hammers, but I'm not convinced it is completely necessary, not to the level of cash it would take to prevent Wet Toast from matching. And we simply don't have the draft picks to make the trade happen.

On another level, all talk of having separate 'inside' and 'outside' midfield responsibilities always makes me nervous, remembering how that mindset so profoundly shaped Terry Wallace's Richmond. Isn't our team mantra something about flexibility?

I've switched sides on Gaff. Didn't want him. However he's playing a lot more inside this season & goes when it's his turn while still providing run & carry. He's not particularly quick but he provides relentless running and makes good decisions with the footy. We need to add this. I'd love Isaac Smith or Jack Macrae but they're not obtainable. Gaff might be.

Don’t disagree Gaff has to be a target.

But our number 1 target needs to be Ollie Wines - Port have bet the farm and at this stage things are not going well.

Bollocks. He is out of contract, not a free agent. Port would demand the world for him.

Port can only demand the equivalent compensation to what they are paying him - last year we got Lever for equivalent to pick 5. Wines is probably not quite to the value of pick 5 but it would be close - so easily doable if he nominated the Demons.

Dont “lock it in yet Eddy” but Port have taken a huge gamble and it’s not paying off yet.

What? How do you figure that out?

He is talking about the points system given to each draft number. Our first round pick last year (pick 10) plus our first round pick this year (say pick 11) minus the second rounder they give back to us = pick five.

PS. I may have missed another piece

PPS. I’m just happy they reckon we will have some salary cap space left!

let's worry about our own signings before we got out and try and lure outside talent.

i agree, but as everyone on this sites whines about how its fine we are on masterchef, surely we can sign our current crop as well as look at outside players (literally) to join the club? i'm sure the club is more than capable these days to juggle some balls..

Or exactly what I said we would pay before the trade went thru ( I even made a bet on this site ) and exactly what Peter Jackson confirmed after the trade went thru.

Adelaide opted for the 2 x first rounders due to the fact this years draft in full of talented SA kids - so no go home factor - and we were more than happy to oblige. Lever was a bargain due to the Crows internal player payment structure - but that payment structure has worked well for them in the past just in this instance we took advantage of it.

Wines needs to be our priority this year, followed by Gaff as a free agent. I think we will easily have the cap room - Port wont have, but Ollie is very loyal. Gaff think the salary would be similar on either side of the country - just a matter of does he want to come home.

Inside mids - Jones (2-3 seasons left), Tyson (meh but gets the ball), Viney, Oliver, Petracca (coming), Brayshaw, ANB (more HFF, no silk)

Classy outside mids - Stretch (far from proven), Hunt (more HBF), Salem (maybe).....

I'm on board with Gaff as far fetched as I think it is.

Let Wines go. We took Toumpas, like we took Tyson.

Fair enough - However, in todays game coaches love players that can win their own football - winning the contested ball is everything.

Funny enough I reckon our position will be strengthened or weakened depending on what we decide to do with Lewis & Vince.

Fun times ahead.

agree and look forward to seeing how we deal with it.

Vince has shown form in the last week but I wonder if he's not on his last legs.  Lewis has value, if an on field Hodge type presence over anything else.  At some point we must breed our own team and only poach the panacea we require.

Love Wines, wish we'd drafted him, wanted to draft him.  Just dont see another inside ball winning mid as the priority.

Omac, Jetta, HIbberd, Salem, Lever provide the backbone we need

Hogan, Tmac, Petracca and any number of HFF players make us potent

We are flush with inside mids, we lack delivery

If i can watch a game that doesnt look like me hitting a bad 9iron into the swamp I'm sure we are the difference between 9th and top four.

That’s been the common understanding particularly on here over the years...

It is 100% correct. I used to go to the footy (Melbourne matches) with Andrew, his mother and younger brother. All Demons! Father was (and is still presumably) a Tigers supporter.

His younger brother used to be a Tigers supporter too, but changed to Demons. I bet he regrets that !!!!

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
