Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It'll be covered by Freo as it's a workplace injury.

Whether Freo goes after the Eagles could be interesting.. there would of course be insurers involved and it may well be the same insurer but even then due to reinsurers etc you might still see a case.

At 100k though my guess is that it wouldn't really be worth pursuing.

Going after Gaff would be highly unusual in a workplace environment.

You know what insurers are like they’ll only fork out for the bare minimum and not necessarily the ongoing costs.

Did you listen to Gus on the AFL exchange. He was [censored] and rightfully so. I would expect there would be a fair few issues that need to be worked through if mfc was to offer Gaff a contract

He was [censored] off, no doubt about it. But let's also remember that this is 2 days after the incident, and emotions are still running very high. Gus also spoke about how hard it is to be in Melbourne when the rest of his family is on Perth (except Will, who is in Afghanistan).

I get the feeling, once he has spoken to both Andrew and Hamish, his parents and Gaff himself, and a bit of time has passed, then he may be willing to forgive

Don’t think we need to feel sad for Gaff. Andrew is gonna suffer for a long time. A footy suspension is not a big deal in the context of what Andrew is going through.

But I understand where you’re coming from.

Nothing solid. Just the usual media linking an uncontracted ex-Victorian interstate player with a few Melbourne based clubs with "room" in the cap. We're one of those clubs. As usual a lot of wishful thinking on here that he is a shoe in to come to us. North, Saints & Blues also a chance.

I think it helps that we're entering premiership mode and could also very much use an outside gutrunner with good skills.

Yeah, I know. Just got hit with a surge of “I f***ed up real bad and didn’t mean to and now everyone hates me” when I saw his reaction - I have had that feeling before in my life. Just my empathy acting up - I’m well aware that he isn’t the victim.

Totally agree. I don't know why there are people who think Gaff is straight to Melbourne, like what he did means nothing. Gus and his family have to come first.

More hyperbole.

No one said what Gaff did means nothing or that Gus and his family won't be considered and consulted. But these are professionals who will work together and with time, will get on with footy .

I'd be disappointed if Gaff wanted to be a Dee and Gus refused to accept his apology and didnt move on from it.

No one says it means nothing more than this post here. Gaff should consider himself extremely grateful if any Brayshaw is willing to forgive him, let alone accept him as a team member.

Won't happen! Gaff clearly is very moved by his actions, Yep stuffed up big time! But first time EVER!

Massive error of judgment, brain fade ? Whatever, clearly shattered

His club , however, ????

Andrew Brayshaw is suffering and I know as I had some reconstructive surgery occurring as result of on field, but off the ball hit!

In scheme of things … it could have been worse. It wasn't !

If Family are prepared to at least understand and in time Forgive and young Andrew has no lasting physical and Mental injury.

Well whilst not ideal..

Let Gaff work through his 8 weeks and play again

Aside from whether it be with MFC or not

One shizen decision should not define a man! No one died!

As Rob Flower said

Life goes on!

The Brayshaw family very very strong! I salute them for solidarity

Gus was pretty cut up on the podcast today as well. People need to respect what he's going through.

I reckon Gaff and/or Methcoast should bear financial responsibility for the many years of dental work to follow - could easily be more than $100,000 for implants and the like.

I have had a couple of implants over the years at about 3 to 5k each. Not cheap but not $100K I think. Just for the record.

Obviously feel for Gus, Andrew and his family but Gaff clearly had a brain fade and has been remorseful since. The power of forgiveness is a wonderful thing for which in time Angus will find this.

In my mind (and yours might be different) that is because I think he's fully deserving of a long stint on the sideline but not nearly as deserving of some of the media hounding and vitriol he has received. It should mostly die down now but it won't.

It's why I think a fairer punishment would've been until the end of the season, not a number of weeks, which would allow him to start fresh next year. I'm not sure that helps him or Andy Brayshaw given I bet the incident is replayed repeatedly before his 'comeback'.

Unfortunately the tribunal revolves around outcomes and the number of weeks. There's this focus that somehow 5, 8 or 12 weeks means something in particular and that it had to be 'x amount' of weeks.

To me that isn't justice at all really. When you commit a crime the justice isn't only the sentence but the acknowledgement from the judge of the factors involved and a path to rehabilitation. It might just be the reporting but it would've been nice to see more focus from the Tribunal in a case like this that they'll punish Gaff with x amount of weeks, but also he has had a clean record for 174 games, it was a split second incident and he's welcome back in the game at the end of his suspension.

Of course Gaff should feel grateful if they forgave him, that's part of offering a sincere apology and (hopefully) recieving forgiveness. Andrew Brayshaw is clearly the victim and no one condones what happened to him, but let's not forget that Gaff is suffering too and extremely remorseful. His presser after the verdict is evidence of this.

I would hope in time Gus could forgive Gaff and get on with footy, with or without him in his team. He's a strong character, I think he will, would be saddened if he didn't.

It was Ross Lyon that gave Gaff the 4 coaches votes!!

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-08-07/theres-no-winners-here-lyon-on-gaff-ban

Lyon was clearly emotional in his press conf but didn't let that affect his judgement.  Second best on the ground, he said so he got the 4 votes.

Simpson on the other hand didn't give him a single vote - didn't rate Gaff's game/performance.

Lyon giving the 4 votes was the other only logical possibility than WCE coach having done so.  No way it could have been a split vote as I think IDee pointed out.  I am pleasantly surprised it was this way around. Credit to both.

And this is why it’s always a good idea to not make assumptions and fly off the handle before the facts are presented.

A lot of people here seem to still want Gaff at MFC. And that’s cool. I’m however just feeling a bit uneasy about it right now. I’m sure that will change in time and by the end of the season I’ll probably want him again but I just think about the ramifications this could have on Gaff’s state of mind in the game, how Gus would feel if he were brought into the fold and also the media circus that might gather round our club. I’ve been so happy to not be involved in too many of those lately and kind of want to keep it that way.

Happy to admit I might be overreacting here and like I said I might have a different view in a few weeks but his is just how I feel right now. Sorry if it’s not popular

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
