Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Go and get Gaff!

22 pages added on this thread since the Gaff incident, well let’s say 21 if you minus the posts suggesting Jones is off to the Suns and only 10 on the Post Match.

Gaff is flying to Melbourne for the hearing and West Coast are expected to argue Gaff was trying to make contact with the chest.

My guess, Gaff gets 8 weeks.

If he didn't mean to cave his face in surely he would've paused? A bit of shock, some instant remorse? Call a trainer over even? They are supposed to be friends...

Unless there's something else in the footage that I didn't see, pretty sure that defence is bs.

Seems like the world has gone crazy over the Gaffe by Gaff but we even seem to be heading into the realms of nutterism on the normally intelligent Demonland.

The real precedent here is the punch by Cunnington on Bernie last year where we wandered over and punched him in the gut, Cunnington is one of the toughest mofos getting around and let me tell you a liver punch is was more painful than a jab on the chin, Cunnington got a fine so that should be the starting precedent here.

On another point why is there any mention of legal action? Do you really want normal rules of the land applied at the football? Maybe then we should arrest Bradshaw for the ridiculous pushing and hanging off of Gaff because you cant to that down the Main Street, arrest the shouting fans too defamation all round in some of those comments and just to top it all off the people enjoying your beer at the football now that we have declared the game open for the lawyers to cash in you lot are all stuffed too for drinking in a public place. At least the lawyers future are secured with all this nonsense.

Given that Bugg got 6 weeks (reduced from 7 for pleading guilty) for "intentional, medium impact" and Gaff is charged with the more serious "intentional, severe impact" Gaff must get more than 6/7 weeks or it makes a mockery of the whole system.

As WCE are set to challenge and if Gaff is found guilty as charged he should not be given any penalty discount.  The Bugg discount was for pleading guilty not for showing remorse (which he did in spades), nor for a good MRP record.

The AFL is carrying on about the 'Look of the Game'.  It doesn't look too good when a kid goes off the field with his face punched in.  If they really care about the 'look' and the impact of the Gaff incident on junior football then they cannot allow a reduced penalty.  If the penalty is less than 8 weeks the AFL should appeal.

The Irony in all this is listening to Mathhews  join the band wagon of over the top commentary.

He of all people should Shut the F#*K up

Maybe we should just let the existing AFL process play out and comment then when there is actually something to comment on

Herald sun showing multiple pages of the incident is appalling abuse or process and is encouraging mob rule ensuring an in consistent reactionary penalty

When you have airheads on morning TV  making inflamatory comments regarding penalties, without having the enquiry by the ruling body, you know who is running the agenda

How about we just let the established process  commence  and play out

Neville Bruns on SEN reckons Gaff should get 12 months off his career, yep 12 months suspension.

Well, after reading the Bruns article I’m not so shocked now.

Matthews’ punch luckily missed his temple by half an inch and with a force that strong on a temple Bruns wouldn’t have come out of it according to the doctor.

I reckon it will be 5 weeks. All this talk of 12 months, police charges etc is a joke. What a soft society we have become.

So you think it less than Bugg's punishment?

I thought Bugg was ‘high impact’.

Incidentally, Jonas also got 6wks in 2016 for high impact elbow that KO’d Gaff.

To your point, I’m interested to see what a defense does to the result.

I’m guessing 8wks, but if less then you’d have to wonder about all that integrity around the Bugg handling.

My reading is that 'High' means where a player is hit ie above the shoulders.  Whereas Low/Medium/Severe refers to extent of damage.  So Bugg was Intentional/High/Medium.  Gaff is charged with Intentional/High/Severe; a more serious offence.

We know there are two rules when it comes to suspensions, one for the 'stars and one for everyone else.  I agree less than 8 weeks is wrong on so many levels.

Edit:  you are correct No 10.  The severity rating is Low/Medium/High/Severe.  Bugg was rated as 'High'.  My bad.  We are on the same page thinking Gaff offence was worse than Bugg's so should get a higher penalty.

And Bugg got 7 reduced to 6 because had had a clean record.

You're right, we are such a soft society for thinking that punching someone and breaking teeth and jaws is not worthy of severe punishment. We should ease up on domestic violence, one punch strikes and drink driving too. Soft!

I was at Princes Park the day that dirty mongrel, Leigh Matthews, king hit Stephen Smith. He woke up in the dressing room some minutes later, minus several teeth.

And people speak of Matthews as a super hero.

Hero, my ar.....m pit! He deserved to be charged for assault and suffered the ignominy of being found guilty (before getting off on appeal).

To argue that violence on the field that would see you before the court and facing gaol time if done on the street, is not subject to the laws of the land is astounding. What if a player actually died?

Having said that, I'd still welcome Gaff at MFC if we could get him. Do the crime, do the time. Forgive and forget.

We have our own skeletons in the closet. I still love Rod Grinter, who took fisticuffs to a much higher level, though I don't condone his level of aggression.

On a cheeky side-note, Gaff would fit in at Melbourne after the punch if we go back to last year and Hogan and Lewis' little taps (perfect fit? :P).

I still want him, even if he gets 12 weeks. I think it has to be over 6 weeks though as other posters alluded to.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
