Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

My "lid is definitely on" after a win like that. Just wondering if the crowd left before the game because i couldn't see anyone there during.

The win could be a springboard,  hopefully: just hope they have the sense to confiscate the bath plugs to prevent the inappropriate imbibition that has plagued successes in recent times.

We hit the post 4 times, 3 times in the first quarter I think. Unlucky.

We smashed them in the centre clearances and it makes a huge difference to the outcome.

The goal that D Smith kicked in the last 3 minutes shouldn't have been allowed. Daniher played on from the wing - was outside the boundary line, ran past our player and the mark and kicked the ball fwd. He didn't enter the field of play and once he played on past the mark should have been a throw in. Elementary mistake by umpires which is pathetic and could have cost a game. Not good enough.

Like what Spargo brings and we functioned much better as a fwd line when we pressure to keep the ball in. Hannan and Fritsch were excellent.

TMac adds good value to our team with his flexibility and ability to contest fiercely.

Jetta had his best game for some time and Melk has lifted bigtime the last two weeks.

Spargo has a bit of the toby g.about him. Angry and a real livewire. Could see him pinching garletts job up forward perhaps.

So glad to see jetta and hibberd back in form with lever finding some. Same applies for hannan. Anb needs to lift.

Hope jesse is ok.

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, but I notice that Tom McDonald only had 69% game time (next lowest was Hogan with 71%, who I know had an injury concern; and Spargo with 74%). We also know that when fully fit, he generally plays 95% plus game time. So, was he just being managed or did he appear to have an injury? Hopefully it's the former.

I'd say it was just being managed.  He has missed plenty of game time so they would have wanted to ease him in a little.  Goodwin was really happy with this game yesterday so, if he pulls up well, then I don't think it had anything to do with him being injured in any way.

Just watched replay. A few thoughts:

- Lever’s reaction on 3 q time when whatshisname played on and dropped the ball on the siren. Passive aggressive/ Hilarious!

- Anyone here from the cheer squad? After Tmacs second goal in the last quarter, theyre waving a big picture of Jeffy Garlett  in the crowd. Wouldn’t you just bring it out for the day when he’s actually playing?! Cheersquad needs to lift.

- Love a frothy milkshake

- Gawn copping a spray from that [censored] wit Bummers fan and giving it back after scoring a goal. Was that [censored] stain ejected? Disgraceful.

- Essendrug are a shitful rabble.

- Our back line seems to be gelling. Less face palm moments.

- Watching Joe ‘the lip’ Daniher ineffectually flap around like a intellectually challenged Labrador is always a viewing treat!

- Spargo has the mongrel.

Classic. We need you to watch more replays and report DG. :)

I'm surprised that one matter seems to have been  overlooked these past two weeks before today.

we are an " on top of the ground "team. We played awfully well the first 20 minutes v Hawks . Then it rained and we were horrible . Against Richmond we played on a slippery track. It was drizzling 45 minutes before the ganpme. Right from the start players including Oliver and Petracca fumbled. Confidence receded. Then we played the most negative Q2 I can recall. This occurred because we were too frightened to take a risk in the conditions. On another site it had been pointed out that Stretch repeatedly made position on the Outer side, but the ball was only kicked to him once, and of course, he buggered it up. We need to handle the ball  securely  to enable our play on style to work. I asked one of our players what the conditions were like. He replied " bloody slippery at the start and again just after half time". Did anyone notice that Cotchin changed his  boots at quarter time?

of course the conditions were the same for our opponents. Playing in wet or just slippery conditions involves different techniques and tactics, for some reason we haven't mastered them. As an example, Garlett has always been poor when he can't grab the ball and move quickly.  Experience in the wet  counts for a lot, these days teams play v little in non dry conditions.

That is the most sensible analysis Ive read in a while.

Great to get a win, even if the first half is unwatchable. A few positives to come from the game: Brayshaw playing midfield where he should, Hannan Fritsch and Spargo etc... It was a nice win, but nothing to get me too excited.

It still feels like just one game in the middle of a whole heap of bland under-performance. I still can't clearly see our best 22 or best 25 players, with lots of players like Harmes, ANB, Fritsch, Spargo, Garlett, Smith, etc... rolling in and out of the team each week as their form fluctuates.

OMac is my highlight of the year so far. Love watching him now. I feel as confident with him as I do with Nev. Do we remember how many Demonlanders were caning our selectors for leaving him in the team when he was learning his trade? The vitriol was a pandemic. In hindsight, our player development seems to be an actual strength. (I can't believe I am typing that after the previous decade of horrors!)

Now, that Demonlander vitriol reserved purely for developing players, turns to Weideman. How about we give him the same opportunities we have OMac? Weideman is a very, very good footballer who will turn out to be a 200 game player. He also has Hogan and TMac to learn from. He will be fine.

Players rolling in and out is a strength when they are trained consistently and know each other's skills and habits. That can and may be occurring as you say. Hooray

Weiderman should be developed the same way. Don't burn him out swap him with Pedersen when the opposition and his condition require. Pedersen is an older harder body better against older harder tougher marking defenders. Weid will grow and get the strength and skill.

Use of the full squad is our critical point. Selection is now more important as we don't have only a best 22!

Can you please elaborate, I only saw parts of the game on my phone as I was working yesterday. Games recorded on FOX will hopefully get to watch it tonight.

As Jaded mentioned, it was the anniversary of his fathers passing and if that's the case, he is excused. It may have also had to do with the fact that Ambrose was playing pretty well on him and we were pretty crap in the first half. He was injured (ankle) in the second half, but a few people think he carried an injury into the game.

What a difference (less than) a week makes. After the Richmond game Demonland was sinking under the weight of comments that we don't have enough depth even to make a proper squad of 22.

I'll just leave this here what I said about the Richmond game........

Our form against Richmond was OK and you could see it turning around.

Our 3 first half posters would have made a big difference at half time against the Scum but we clicked in the second half and hopefully will take some belief from that. Our efficiency and fwd pressure improved dramatically.

The jury is still out on Goodwin's match day for me but he did ring the changes and brought in some real spark.  He was very slow to stop the Ess switch and we refused to switch against Richmond but after half time on Sunday he made the changes required and it was a much more polished performance.

We fumbled a lot in the first half on Sunday and it was indoors with perfect conditions....just sayin....

He definitely had a bit of a hobble going on before leaving the ground with the ankle, in fact the commentators made mention of it and he went to the bench and got some attention from the physio.

Something I've noticed in the last couple of games.

Not a knock, just an observation.

Even though Oliver had 30+ against the Tiges he's dropped off a little.

His touch is back to the level of a good player as he's been missing or double touching a lot of balls he would normally one touch.

I look forward to him getting back in touch and taking a game apart again soon.

Hopefully starting this weekend.

So Junior

Why did it take so long

Jones in the middle Oliver to Zaharakis instead  and Salem back

All of a sudden we had drive

When you have drive and on the front foot all  you are winning free kicks which is exactly what happened

I don't know, thats why it was so frustrating. My guess is that whilst we looked bad we actually were getting the ball into our 50. If we goal with the 3 posters in the first half we would be talking about a different thing. At half time they addressed the obvious and it was effectively game over.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
