Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Come on optimists, sell me hope

Clint, when you take the two most important players our of any team- not necessarily the best but the most important it changes a side dramatically. We got T-Mac back today who was great first up and Viney still to come. Judge us in a months time.

Mac boys.......2 wonderful bookends.

Special mention to O mac. He survived the Watsonian criticism and has come out a very good player.

We'll be fine as long as we keep kicking to decent contests, our talls bring the ball to ground, and our smalls learn to stay down.

And a little more composure would help.

Good point .... and our crumbers  up forward other than Spargo arent your usual smalls. Fritsch, Hannan can take a grab when needed

One or two fly, the rest crumb.

Yes, for sure but you have to realise you can’t always be right, you can’t always win, not everybody will like you, you will make mistakes.

But when you are positive you will see opportunities others can’t - just do the best you can and again do more of what you do well.

Our players are very committed and are learning and improving every game. Now all we need to do is support them and give them the resources they need to rise and repeat more consistently.

As I am writing this Melbourne are only one goal down at half time, against Essendon but it is continuing the trend of rubbish football we have seen over in the past few weeks.

The same problems still exist:

  • Fumbling
  • Missing tackles
  • Not being able to break clear or dispose of the ball when tackled
  • Poor skills
  • Overrunning the ball on the ground
  • Kicking into the man on the mark because not getting back behind the mark far or quick enough
  • Drifting off the mark causing the umpires to call play on resulting in free kicks turning into unnecessarily pressured kicks
  • Panicked kicks and handballs
  • Not looking to break clear for disposing of the ball, just coughing it up
  • Multiple players flying for the ball and no one staying down
  • The opposition getting easy goals out the back in the clear
  • Stagnant down-the-line ball movement with no flair or dare
  • Out-numbered in our forward line

Even with all of this we are only one goal down, it just shows how much we still need to improve because our ceiling is much higher. I've got no doubt that the systems and structures in place are what is leading to these poor performances.

Talent on the list isn't the issue, we no longer rely on players like Magner, Crouch, Bail and Sellar. We have even seen a nice debut from young Spargo who has been lively.

So all you optimists out there, convince me of why this isn't the Mark Neeld era all over again.

This could be the worst timed post of the year....

The second half is the best we've played since last year.  We will continue to build through the year.

Let's hope so.

Amazing what confidence and belief in yourself and teammates can do.

And accountability.  Not only for your role but also your opponent.

Most likely.

Still, a lot of those issues haven't gone away from a half of football.

Consider this, what are the things they did right.

Write a list if you have to - only write positive things on the list.

Then how many things on the list can you personally change?

Then start working on those ie buy another membership, donate $10, start a thread talking about what you liked about Charle Spargo etc

I actually agree with the assessment of the first half, I don't think we played that well yesterday as a collective.

We are not an elite team. We still can't play 4 consistent qtrs. We are still in development and don't have a settled side in set positions and roles yet (by my observation and injuries - ie Viney). Rambling but it was good to see Gus play as a pure mid for the first time as well yesterday.

But we are not the pathetic MFC of old, that's where I don't understand the over reaction and consistent negativity on Demonland.

I was going to start a thread myself yesterday. To see who had the balls to call us making and not making the eight this year.

I do not think we are a certainty but the competition is so close that we are not out of it. The next 3 weeks are a HUGE indicator of how well we are going to go this season and we should be looking at winning al three.

Not sure whats more impressive,  your ability to inspire the entire team or the fact we have won 10 straight quarters of footy.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
