Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Huge moan at bringing up the pre-season camp rubbish again and I think we still have ample opportunity to make finals even should we loose to Essendon, but asides from that, I actually think Carey has got alot right in this article.

He has. At this stage, there's more to suggest that the camp fiasco has affected the team and culture than there is to suggest it hasn't.

I don't think there is a team in worse form than Essendon right now. (You could argue we have worse form, valid argument)

From a wins v losses perspective, going 2-4 isn't the end of the world. However, if we cannot beat Essendon right now at their flattest, I'm not sure who we could actually beat. This is a huge game for both sides.

If we drop this I'm not convinced we will beat the saints the following week.

Tracc out (potential goal kicking mid), no other mids or mid/forwards kicking goals (Kent out), our abysmal delivery / horrible organisation / zip pressure inside 50, Jeffy in career worst form, no genuine stay at home tall forward to kick 2 or 3 (Pedders) on a good day.

Might get alot of the pill and alot of entries as in previous 2 matches.  But we simply aren't making the most of our entries and kicking enough goals.  Scoreboard pressure absent in last 2 matches means a confident freed up (mentally) opponent who will have their tails up from the get go and going for the jugular early.

Not expecting Essendrug to be much chop either but will probably make more of their opportunities up forward.

Essendrug by 4 to 5 goals in an ugly encounter.

Think you are spot on with respects to the lack of scoreboard pressure we have exerted in recient weeks (pretty much most of this year for that matter).

Depends who gets named in the final side, but assuming T Mac does, then we have some significant tall forward options to hit-up inside 50.  If T Mac gets set shots inside 50, I have more confidence he will actually convert than most of our team (particularly Gawn at present) and that would be a good start.  Kent is a loss, but assuming Freitch comes in, I think that pretty much cancels out as asides from Kent, Freitch is about the only player that has looked like consistently kicking goals for us this year.

Like you, if last years game is anything to go by, I'm certainlty expecting an ugly encounter, but who knows it could also be a complete blow out one way or another.  Would be nice if we could turn it on and win back some percentage we have thrown out the window in recient weeks, but from where we are at present, I'd be more than happy just to get the 4 points in an ugly encounter and start getting some system and confidence back into the side.

Can’t argue with any of that, I remember when the camp fiasco came out I thought we will be right our footy will do the talking, unfortunately our footy is no different to the camp the players picking and choosing when they want to show up, I get why goody was so peeved off about it he knows there is a soft underbelly and he wants it gone, I feel sorry for Goodwin he is doomed to fail.

Essendon win into daniher for most goals at $4.50 will be the easiest money I make all year

Duck quacks correctly.

My god I used to think the Saints were the kings of self-destruction. The king is dead...long live the Demons.

We have absolutely no one else to blame. We've brought this upon ourselves. I actually think Duck was almost gracious whilst being circumspect in his assessment.

It's beholding upon each club, and the groups and individuals within to carve out its future. It's upon them also if faillure 'wins' out.....again.

I now believe the camp fiasco was mainly about a major disconnect between elements of the Coaching and a particular group of players.

Does it look like we play united ? Does it look like its one for all and all for one out there ? Does it look like everyone has blind faith in what everyone is supposed to be doing ?

The scoreboard suggests not. The glib rubbish coming from the club suggests not.

We're about 5 mins fron being a basketcase again unless some serious correcting is done.

By all means consider this the rambling ranting of some old negative bvgger, and I know some will.

There ARE some on these boards who post, some who just read and watch. Among them I know some have a very good idea about which I speak.

There is a crack developing at the club, big enough for Jackson to scurry out of office waving the vultures away. How odd for him...no ?

This needs fixing now. There are some at Melbourne who's egos are likely to derail a lot of good work lest they have a good look in the mirror... change....or bvgger off.

There's much that's good at Melbourne..... there's an element that's not.

It's not an accident per se that we're playing like rabble.

Go Dees

Regardless of what happened re the camp it should NEVER have gone outside the four walls of the club. That is the real and most damning issue.

There is no doubt it has been a disappointing start to this season. I feel emotionally drained and we are only 6 games in.

I think we can win the next 4 games, and that will change the landscape, but there is no escaping the fact that we can't match it with strong, organised, fast teams yet, and to me that is all I care about now.

I want to make finals and I want to match it with the best teams. As a club, this is the stage of development I hoped we would be in by now. However at this moment in time, finals look anything but a guarantee.

Does anyone know whether Wayne Carey writes his own opinion pieces? Or does he have a 'Tom Prior' (Lou Richards' ghost-writer) to help him? It reads to me like a ghost-written article perhaps based on some of Carey's comments.

Anyway, I think its the puffiest of puff pieces which asks lots of questions, offers no answers and, in essence, provides no insight.

Is it for him to provide answers ? I wouldn't think so.

Its for the club to sort itself out.

Hes just providing commentary on observation. As we do.

Fair point. But it's why I don't usually read his stuff because it doesn't inform me. Out of curiosity I read this one and learned nothing.

Fair comments to suggest we learnt nothing. Others less au fait might have.

We have regressed fairly badly since last year's match RB.  I agree re: T-Mac but was just looking at where we are at without him in this week as there's no certainty he is.  If he comes in it might add the 4 to 5 goals i was thinking which might result in a draw or a very close result.

You are correct re: Fritsch.  He had a reasonable start for a young fella and not sure why they dropped him for the Tigers match.  Alot of his numbers are equivalent to players who have been around for 4 to 5 years as mid / forwards and he's only played a handfull of games.

Some of the team selections have been very ordinary so far.

Praying T-Mac makes it!  If he doesn't this might sound crazy but we really need Maxy to play some significant time up forward, even just to get ball to ground and try and upset their set ups down back a little.  Weids to spend a little more time in the ruck vs last week if poss.

P.S. If you are talking accuracy Pedders is pretty accurate within 40 odd meters or so.  Should have been in last week and this.  FD (Macca?) has seemingly stamped his papers after one more horrid game against Brissy it would seem just as they did with Dunny.  Betting the farm on Weids.

Depressing that the season could be over after 6 rounds. Statistically not many teams start 2-4 and make the finals.

Comp is very even, upsets are occurring & don't be surprised if teams make finals on 11 wins. Still frustrated on how we are playing though!

Anyone taking into account the seemingly ubiquitous statistic of how young and inexperienced our band of merry men is?

They might have quite a few games, but the experience is not together...

The concern is V Richmond we refused to take any risks, it was like watching us when Mark Neeld coached, sticking to the Members side boundary and not even looking to switch play or attack through the corridor.  Our side plays its best football one on one when we don't allow loose men in our forward 50m.

We are a side with really only two players that have looked to improve on 2017, Hogan and O-Mac, Salem is getting there, Gawn is ineffective the rest look like they are running in quicksand

That's a lovely post. How about identifying the egos to which you refer though? It reads well, your post, but unless you are prepared to identify and name the egos responsible, it all sort of means ...well...stuff all.

Game plan being so shizenhausen is the only thing Carey didn’t bring up.

so true but even worse as some have gone backwards.

That's what makes so mad about Petracca missing ... time for him to take on a game and really star. Cameos are fine but he needs to influence a whole game.

Hogan is the bright star of a pretty dismal start. Sure it has impacted our scoring but at CHF he is a potential elite of the game.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
