Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I'll give this a go as it is always a bit of fun.

One thing I feel we've got wrong to start the season and that was rectified against the Bombers is the balance within the side. We have played some players who may be 'in form', but including them limits the overall team. Wagner is the prime example, I'm not knocking him as I think he has been decent, but really he is fighting for a similar spot to Hibberd and having them both seemed to hurt our drive from the backline. I also think we were playing too many 'inside' type players and need the outside run, with Hannan provided last week.

B:      Jetta           O Mac         Hibberd

HB:   Hunt           Lever           Lewis

c :     Salem         Jones         Vince

HF:   Trac            Hogan         Melksham

F:     T Mac          Weid            Garlett

R:     Gawn          Oliver           Viney

Int:  Tyson          Brayshaw      Hannan       Fritsch

Emg:  Spargo      Frost        Harmes      Neal-Bullen

This is assuming all players are at their best. I love little Spargo but if Garlett finds his best form he is a proven, 40 goal a year small forward so he has to be in. I think Harmes and Neal-Bullen have good potential and are long-term players but they just miss out and Frost is an obvious back-up for a tall if required.

I didn't like when we played the small forward line, I don't think it works for us and you need genuine gun small forwards which we probably don't quite have. We need to play to our strengths and the biggest is that we have two of the most mobile KPF's in the game in Hogan and TMac so Weid can easily play as the 3rd tall and back up ruck.

pretty well spot on and almost unarguable assuming Weid shows something in the next couple of weeks. Similarly Hunt needs to give some drive off half back.

Garlett v Spargo is interesting and like most I would agree with your thoughts. Great however to see that we are having the debate. If Spargo can have say 6 games for the year at the level of last Sunday we will have a valuable player. He has a certain ball sense that few players have.

Looking longer term I suspect that Oskar Baker will be the next to debut.

Harmes and ANB v Hannan and ??? is perhaps an area worthy of discussion.

Good effort D is G.  I think it also has an aspect on transition and succession planning.  Fritsch has earned it now, but Spargo will by end of year  so as an emergency recognises this.  By end of year two other spots needed - for Lewis and Vince maybe???  Hunt may be a bit lucky too.

My hope is that we bring in Gaff as a replacement for the two..... may be just a dream though.

He would compliment our side perfectly as that gut running outside mid.

Personally I think it's easy to split Harmes and Brayshaw, Brayshaw is a lot better.

Did you deliberately miss Hunt, don't like Wagner at all?

I don't think he is a lot better Werridee at this point..

http://www.afl.com.au/stats/stats-pro#/Compare?playerIds=CD_I298279,CD_I297899&comparisonTab=h2h

In certain areas such as interceptions (clearly ahead), goal assists and center clearances he has a slight advantage, whereas on the pressure/tackling front Harmes appears to be ahead somewhat.  Efficiency almost level on the kicking front, Brayshaw probably slightly ahead with handballing / decision making and being clean.  Harmes maybe a tad slower around the footy, getting caught with the ball a bit more and unable to escape congestion as often as Brayshaw.  Harmes probably a bit stronger in a one on one ground ball contest though and able to hold himself up to win the day on occasions vs Brayshaw in a similar situation.

I am tending towards Brayshaw also just maybe not as bullish as you.  As the season and the year goes he may end up being a clear winner.  My issue with both of them is they both rarely worry the scoreboard.  Ie., not great at finishing in front of goal and/or getting in to scoring positions very often (Harmes maybe a tad more than Gus at this point).  Which is why i have them both on the interchange / emergency side at this point.  For a mid fielder to have some sort of impact above or over his direct opponents (or to match them), i feel hitting the scoreboard (even if it's once in a while) adds something extra to their arsenal and demands a little more respect from the direct opponent to play you a little closer.

Wagner is included Werridee.

I have only left Hunt out at this point due to his recent form being off the pace defensively (intercepts / tackles / one percenters etc).  Otherwise I love how he takes on the game and worries opponents with speed / attacking play and gets us into the 50 more often but he also isn't finishing too well at the end of all that running at the moment and often turns it straight over, leaving us exposed a bit too often when the opp are sling shotting off his turnovers.  If he finds that form defensively and with his finish in next month or so i would be including him in preference to Wags.  Wags having a good season and has the nod at this point for mine.

Lynch from Gold Coast or Lynch from Adelaide? I'd prefer Lynch from Adelaide, we don't need Gold Coast's Lynch.

The forward line is too tall and slow with him in it.

I've just noticed you have Tommy in 2 positions not even he's that good to do that.

I'm doing it a little differently to some probably.  Basing it on performances / form shown so far in 2018.

Regardless of who is in the team at Rnd 6 i have Wags a short nose ahead of Hunt in the above stakes.

If you ask me who the better player "should be" going forward that is a different question.  If we assume Hunt can recover form akin to last year, then i would place Hunt easily ahead of Wags in the best 22 stakes.  For mine he just hasn't regained that form.....yet.

What’s  the reason for having a 30 yr old Hall in that team instead of a 26 yr old Hannan? Not having a go, just curious.

With no first round pick in 2018 or 2019, I am not sure how you intend to get Lynch, Gaff and Sloane (or why you would trade out Hogan and Gawn, two of our most popular and talented players)? Even with the most convoluted trade deal imaginable, I am not sure that our FD will run with it!

You have answered your own question CBD...

Why because its a fantasy beast 22, for 2020.

And, because it makes us a better team onfield.

Currently I prefer TMc ahead of Hogan as CHF.

And I think the Weide is showing now, his skills & whee he is heading with his career. on the up and up.

SO, a forwardline of Lynch, TMc, and Weideman, with smalls and mediums flowing thru, is i think a strong unit.

All these talls share ruck duties and are followers in their own rights, leaving us covered, if one gets injured.

Wait so our ruckman is Lynch? He's had something like 82 hitouts for his whole career. Max will probably break Goldsteins record and get 83 in one season!

We witnessed first hand yesterday, the importance of midfield marking in these days of the press.

Ours worked much better yesterday with TMc floating thru the mid areas, taking marks and using his body leaving Saints on the floor.

We worked very hard to stop them marking the ball in midfield transition, and they fell apart. Our desperation doing this was clearly evident and it worked a treat.

So mobile talls prowling the mid section of ground marking the ball and throwing weight around, is a huge key to winning.

Maxy played MUCH better yesterday up forward.  But he is not a great mark as a tall.

PS: check the hitouts from yesterdays game. We beat the saints 34 to 26..  showing that hitouts are overrated, unless they land direct in our mids hands.

Our setups yesterday were much much better, and we worked tirelessly to win our clearances.

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
