Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I’m pretty sure that twice now ANB has tried to kick the ball off the ground in the Members’ pocket only for it to go out on the full.

I slammed the remote on the ground when he did that.  Anyone with half a brain cell could see the play was to ensure it went out of bounds to force the thrown in deep in the pocket.  But no, instead of doing that he flings a boot at it under pressure only for it to go a few metres and end up out on the full.  Couldn't believe he bothered and I can't imagine Goodwin would have been happy with it either.

He actually did the exact same dumb kick just before half-time against Richmond last year (totally gave them a spark at half time). Scroll to 2:53 and you'll see.

ANB's career so far has been littered with these team deflating brain snaps....

FF the vid to 5:12...we were 3 points ahead early in the last here.  I remember this like it was yesterday at the ground and how demoralizing it must have been for the boys at the time....

Are they also aware of how Gawn doesn't help out in a contest, even when he's 30 metres away?

I can't believe you gave the comments you quoted air time.  You're better than that.

Your first comment is a cheap shot.  The post to which you refer was in the context of various other posts questioning Dawn's behaviour or other players' reactions to him during the Hawkes game.  And my comments indicated it wasn't possible to tell where he was relative to the play.  But if people want to take it out of context, go for it!

Re your second comment, I do not assume that things are rosy at the club all the time.  All organisations have tensions between people.  It would be unrealistic to think mfc doesn't have such tensions.  I was genuinely interested in how our club deals with them.

Firstly, a fair amount of posters called you out for the ridiculous point you tried to make, and the long bow you drew.  You made the call, not me.

Also, I don't assume everything is always rosy either, but why you would give air time to throwaway comments regarding division among the players when we have zero proof of anything like that going down, is totally irresponsible.  It adds fuel to a fire that we don't need.  It's like the McCartney comments above his movement from the box back to the bench - a few people make stuff up about a problem between him and Goodwin, which is based on nothing, and then you have the usual suspects running with it.  That's exactly why the posters who made the comments re: division within the club are to be ignored.  Their were no quotes, no articles, nothing.  Yet there you are, giving it air time.  Again, you're better than that.  No doubt there are small spotfires here and there, as there would be in every club, but this is a bridge too far.

Is Troy Chaplin, the Richmond supporting half arse, still our backline coach? It'd explain why our defence has been so poor this year. Hated the look of him at the Grand Final last year wearing a Tigers scarf and posting all over his social media, all while being a paid employee of MFC. I was lambasted by people here saying that he had the right to support another club..I was staggered at the response. I think what we are seeing is a coaching group who are only in it for themselves and to better their career prospects but have little talent and little passion  for OUR club. It reflects in the way the players go about their football. It's the most noticeable difference since Roos left.

Agree. A joke of a player and showing he is a joke of a coach. Our bAckline is in tatters since he took over. Almost as bad as our previous midfield coach....forgot his name but he was also atrocious

Our ball handling is sub standard.

Hardly any one-touch possession even when not under pressure.

By the time we eventually get it in the clear everyone is manned up or the oppo defence is in place and there's no one to kick it to. (Meanwhile the oppo have slammed on two gimmes.)

We work so hard for every goal. How can you win consistently when every goal is a battle and you get no cheapies.

Leppitsch is the best thing to happen to the Tigers in years. By god we need someone like him. We were strangled as we were always going to be. Every team is playing us the same way. And we're walking right in to it. Like the silent movie star who always ends up with a pie in the face.

We have been worked out. "Game plan" and individual players. Oliver, Hunt, etc. Oliver is too good, will work his way through it. Others won't and already their best is behind them.

I'm OK with Goodwin trying out youngsters to see what they've got when the heat's on. Don't give them one game and then bin them if they don't perform. But some players have had enough games and shown sweet FA.

I was OK with the effort shown even if it tailed off at the end. That's the minimum they had to show. But by god. For what end? All that frantic effort is supposed to be for some purpose. The "game plan" is a shambles. It's hardly better than Nathan Buckley's at its worst. Be strong at the contest and the rest will follow? Doesn't look that will cut it in finals, not that we'll ever get to find out. Because you're up against oppo with equal effort and an actual functioning system.

Look, Richmond are a good side. Until mid last quarter, I was accepting being outclassed by quality, the effort had been there. We all know we’re not premiership quality yet.

But to roll over and wave the white flag in the last quarter a second game in a row? I’m [censored] furious.

But Nasher How typically Melbourne!

I remember this quite well and did feel for you a bit. I didn’t have a major problem with it or players/coaches doing this to an extent but at the end of the day you need to remember which club pays your salary. It’s not exactly the best look especially when we get convincingly beaten and makes you wonder if they want success for this club as much as others do and hurt as much as we do after these losses.

And therein lies the problem...it doesn't as these 'staff' are not emotionally invested in our club. Look at the passion McGuire and Kennett have..you can't manufacture that.

Is that for real? Shows an unprofessional attitude. He might smile into his Milo but to be loud and proud about another club in public is wrong. Be happy, fine, but button it and work harder to get that same happiness for the club who's paying your bills.

Like that ump who had Hawks $h!t all over his facebook or instagram. You just don't do it.

In addition to this, what exactly does this football club do to justify getting two blockbuster games each year? In what way do we deserve these fixtures more so than a St Kilda or a Bulldogs? The criteria usually comes down to one of two things: Sky high membership and/or performance on the field and right now this club shows none of that. We haven’t been in the finals for 12 years for crying out loud!

I’m sorry if this upsets some people but I could totally understand if these other clubs were frustrated at us getting these opportunities on a regular basis when we probably don’t deserve them. We are what we are and that is a mediocre football club who doesn’t really know anything about the big stage.

What "regular basis"? ANZAC and QBD?

St Kilda got the Good Friday game plus back-to-back home Friday night games this year against Carlton and Richmond.

They're worse than us and pulling half the crowds we are, and finished behind us last year.

The Dogs have four Friday nights and a Thursday night. They also finished behind us last year with smaller crowds.

We get ANZAC and QBD, plus one interstate Friday night game. Then a whole lot of low-drawing rubbish (including 10 Sunday games).

I’m pretty sure that twice now ANB has tried to kick the ball off the ground in the Members’ pocket only for it to go out on the full.

That was infuriating.

The worst part of my night last night was having to sit in front of an endure the worst afl supporter in history... EVERY single play where we won out, had to be a free kick... not most... but every one! I know all of us are one-eyed at times but this guy was so bad I'm surprised he didn't have a parrot on his shoulder and a peg leg..

He kept referring to Jeffy as a cheat so I turned around and asked him to explain himself. He said "it's cos he always cheats out the back for easy goals". I told him to re-educate himself on how the game is played and look up what a "crumbing forward" was.. Everyone around me kept sighing and rolling their eyes whenever he opened his mouth.

Then of course he moved on to comments about the ski season. Why are Richmond supports all so arrogant? In the end I was hoping we got up purely to give him the send off he deserved....

"Richmond" The word originates from the French derivative meaning "well off people", that's why they are so arrogant. There you are.....

Questionfor those at the game. Hard to see from overseas but the afl tracker has ANB and strech whith hugh kms and high kms at speed.

Are they runnng around in circles? What is all this running for? Defensive positions? It is not to go get the ball.

Though both were very poor, are they running around like a headless chooks?

I was at the game and had a great aerial view.

Stretch - did not take the game on enough. we gave so much effort and were our own worst enemy at times. One play he received the ball at half back with a free man at half forward. an almost certain shot on goal coming up. he decided to go sideways and gave richmond time to man up. he gets in ok position but is playing too safely and to be honest was too fumbly all night. i would give him another game though and see if he learns.

ANB - doesn't look half the player of last year where he was very reliable. tough, hard runner but looks out of form to me. just looks like a VFL player at present.

both not great defensively either with 2 and 1 tackles respectively. Max Gawn had 8.

I think he got it spot on with the headless chooks comment. Both need to stay in the VFL.

My trouble with strech Mark 2 is his kicking lacks penetration. Most the time he's was rushed due to a fumble. But his kick were lobs forward.  Compare that to Hogan darts he was firing in

No doubt, there are some contributing structural issues that need to be addressed, but alot of what I saw on Tuesday night was a Richmond chock full of confidence and a MFC bereft of it.  Effort was there on our behalf.  They are not that good, we are not that bad.

We are also massively missing Viney.  Would be great to think that we could take on and beat all comers without key players, but I presently don't think the depth and maturaty of our midfeild is there.  I don't think many sides would cope very well having such a key cog out of their team missing either.  My observation was that the key period when we got back into the game in the third quarter was when Cotchen had to go off the ground for a period injured.

The wave of love and admiration for Dusty and Richmond somewhat astounds me and highights the fickle nature of people and the footy world in general.  Go back 18 months or so and the view of much of the footy world was of the view that Dusty was a loose cannon, Richmond should punt him like the Dogs did to Stringer and we did to Watts.  No one thought that Richmond were a good side as @Nasher proclaimed at the start of this thread (not having a go personally, but just a  obvious example).

To me the mission over the next month of footy is to eek out 2 or 3 wins, find some form, team coheasion and be in a good position to attack the back half of the season (which is well and truly not over - yet).

Richmond didn’t play that well, lots of skill errors. They’re being sat on a pedastal by the media. We were just very lucky they didn’t play their best or they would’ve been 8-10g up at a half time

Agree. I mentioned elsewhere had they been even 50% less off target earlier a thrashing would have been an annihilation.

Richmond played better for sure

50%because they do 50% because we let them by stinking it up.

Lets not ignore the Elephant... we're rubbish atm :(

My biggest problem and one that’s the most cause for concern is why have we gone backwards, we shouldn’t be this bad and players have gone backwards in a big way since last year it isn’t funny. Big 4 weeks coming up.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
