Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Look, Richmond are a good side. Until mid last quarter, I was accepting being outclassed by quality, the effort had been there. We all know we’re not premiership quality yet.

But to roll over and wave the white flag in the last quarter a second game in a row? I’m fucking furious.

Ahem:

Hibbo is excused. Omac, Weeds and a few others had digs.

Gameplan is straight up rooted. Any team with half a clue knows how to combat it. Have 1 or 2 spare off the contest, link up then Bam. Money for old rope.
Goody either doesnt know or refused to adapt. HUGE worry.
Where is Brayshaw, Salem etc? These are rookies anymore. No more excuses. Its not good enough.
Get out the broom with guys like Harmes, Stretch, ANB etc. Gone.
We dont have a genuine mid that has silk and speed. Yes, we have the grunt work covered, but we are so lacking pose.
Vince is cooked. Offers nothing.
Cant remember a game where we fumbled more than tonight for a long time. Painful.
Well outside the 8 and % is sinking like a lead balloon.

Worst of all its supposed to be in honour of the Anzac spirit. We showed none. Folded like a book when it was on the line.

We are no where near finals. Not even close.

Go and get stuffed MFC.

Christ, why couldn't we have gotten Dew? Has the Suns playing like superstars and he's been there a few months. Goodwin's "game plan" (that's being generous) has been found out and he clearly has no answers.

Speaking of, I've never seen such an inept "game plan". It seems more focused on exhausting our players than SCORING GOALS. You can only handball around in circles so many times before you turn the ball over, and when your players are too exhausted to defend, it results in easy goals against. So what the [censored] is this [censored], Goodwin? IT. CLEARLY. ISN'T. WORKING.

Just so glad we have this year's draft to look forwar... oh, that's right, we gave up our (probably) top 5 pick to Adelaide in this year's draft. Joy!

Our bottom 6 were really bad.

Garlett was soft and refused to commit his body.

Stretch is a nothing player and fumbled everything.

ANB has gone back to the terrible player I thought he was 2 years ago.

Harmes, your fend off is horrible, give it up.

Brayshaw has appalling skills, how he went so high in the draft I will never understand.

Max Gawn is so dumb. Stop bashing the ball forward when they have an extra standing there.

Salem, handball if you are about to get a kick smothered, twice!

A much improved performance from Lever, that should be the minimum.

Game plan stinks.

How can we always dominate the hit outs yet always get killed in the clearances?

Answer- Petracca not taking the next step and we don’t have Viney. We really only have Clarry

Lever was good today, but our ball use was atrocious at times, they made us pay.

Such a poorly skilled team.

Hacking it forward for turnover after turnover. Gawns tap work is nearing abysmal as is our general clearance work.

ANB is a liability.

Vince is a plodder.

Great to see Lever finally have a good game.

Goodie has too much pride to change it up.

Our NQRs have all gone backwards in Harmes, Frost, ANB, Stretch, Bugg list goes on

Our Stars in Gawn, Hogan, Trac looking very average and not going to take the next step.

Old days of no game plan and [censored] player development are back.

I understand not wanting to attend an army camp. But I work for an organisation where we serve customers on daily basis with limited staff, even less when people call in sick. Our team just gets it done no matter what, because we have no other choice. the customers just sit there for over 2 hrs and get aggressive. But we cop our whack and make sure everyone is served before we go home. Team comes first. MFC is not team orientated. Selfish football. My kids are sick of losing. They like Richmond!

Put aside the last 15 minutes.  We ran out of juice, the Tigers are reigning premiers and they got some cheap goals.  It wasn't similar at all to last weekend.

But, there were some key moments tonight that contributed to the loss, and they were moments we are having too often to be a consistent side.

The first one is our forward line and not taking our chances.  In the third term especially we dominated for a large period and, while we did kick a few, it should have been more.  We fluffed some chances, Hogan hits the post... we just couldn't put our domination on the scoreboard.  They go down, get a cheap goal and it really hurts.  The goal at the end of the third term was the one that hurt us the most - Lloyd getting a cheap goal out the back took their lead above 3 goals and we had nothing to show for our efforts.

The second is the little things - too many people up in the contest, two players going for the same ground ball, fumbling in key areas, missing simple targets and so on.  We do them too often.  To be a top class side you need to pick the damn thing up, then spread and support.  We CAN do it, we just don't do it often enough.  It's our 'bottom six' that do it the most - ANB, Harmes, Wagner etc.  They just don't do things first time.

I don't think the scoreline reflects the effort we put in and the pressure we were able to apply.  It's a shame, but switch off against a good side and that's what happens.

On the positive side, I thought Gawn was immense, Hogan had another great night, Weideman showed some promising signs before fading (he did well in the ruck, too), Melksham kicked 4 and did a great defensive job on Rance, while guys like Salem, Oliver and Trac tried hard but didn't get enough support.  I also thought O Mac and Lever played their best game together.

I think Goodwin tried a few different things but, in the end, it wasn't enough and we fell back into the bad habits that are costing us games of footy.  Until we eradicate those then we can't move forward.

I think we can beat the Bombers at Etihad and I think we'll enjoy playing in conditions that aren't condusive to fumbling.  We've played the Lions, Hawks and now Tigers in slippery conditions and struggled with it in two of them.  I'll be interested to see how we go without it next week.

Keep your chin up if you can, everyone.  I think we can still improve from here and become the side we all want it to be.  There is just lots of work ahead for the club to do.

Players embarrassed the club in the last round last year.

Players embarrassed the club in the pre-season.

There were a few different ways they could respond to those incidents and we have seen the all too familiar response. Forget about the coach. Nobody has been able to get the required level of effort from our playing group on a consistent basis over the last 30 years. There is something rotten about what is expected of these guys by the wider club. There is just no pride.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
