Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Hilarious non-story from SEN about Tom McDonald including this gem: "According to SEN news breaker Sam McClure, the 25-year-old’s rehab is going according to plan..." Wow. That's breaking news?

Seriously, why did they even bother with that ‘story’?

Because as a sport station you have 168 hours or 10080 minutes of air time a week  to fill.

Any thing remotely connected to AFL will get a run.

They know that tap ruckman are not that important, they won a flag without a Gawn.

Just look at last weekend in spite of getting the vast majority of the tap outs we got done by 10 goals.

What you need a two players who are competitive and a good midfield, dominant tap ruckman who do little else belong in a by gone age.

I don't know where things broke down but so many of Gawn's taps went to spaces where there were no Melbourne players, he may have "won" the ruck duels but our ball winners were nowhere near it.

Are you suggesting that Lever May be asked to play an accountable defensive rôle? That would be interesting.

I'm a Lever fan but if we play him one out against Dusty, good grief.  What is left of his confidence will be in the dirt on the 'G by quarter time.

Maybe he was more concerned about tapping it away from Mitchell?

In the second half of the Hawthorn game it looked like Gawn was mounting a one-man protest. He seemed to be doing things that were not consistent with what the rest of the team was doing, such as tapping the ball to no-one or trying to roost the ball when he kicked it with no apparent method. Given the poor performance of the team, though, it was difficult to tell whether his message was for the players trying to get them more involved or whether it was to the coach to fix something structurally.

Good point, when Roughead marked the ball in the last quarter on his own about 30 metres out from a pass that came from the boundary someone posted Wagner had a few words to say to Lewis.

I didn’t see that but sitting at the bottom of the Ponsford a few of us noticed Max getting stuck into three teammates and the gestures indicated that those players weren’t in the right spot leading up to the play or filling the hole like they should. The disappointing thing out of all that was that all 3 players turned their back on him and walked away without even acknowledging Max. We slumped back in our seats wondering if there was any care factor after that.

It's a concern altogether, who can we even put on him that isn't either out of form or bereft of confidence, going to be interesting to see how Goodwin plays this

In all fairness... MFC rehab doesn’t always go ‘according to plan’...

Seems to be the problem most teams have.  Considering he gets away with murder by the umpires, too.

perhaps it will be a case of tagging in the midfield and team defence in the back half.

Then winning them is pointless and of use to the team. It seems to me that he often just taps to wherever works whether there are melb players there or not.

Whatever is the problem his numerous tap wins are to little effect.

TMac I'm in a similar camp to but he did a fair bulk of pre-season training so again we should make sure he ticks all the right boxes before he comes in. We should not be trying to get him up for Essendon we should be waiting for whatever games comes up for him to be in the best possible condition.

Sure, but the Essendon game could meet those criteria.

(Though I would have thought he'd need at least another week, but what would I know?)

Very astute observations.

He didn't look happy. This is an interesting pic.

From the angle its hard to tell if Max is 10m or 30m from the play.  Maybe Max has run a mile and is exhausted or there are other teammates closer to the play but it looks like Lever could do with some help.  Max looks like he is taking a stroll in the park.

Given that the dorks suck most of their coaches from us they've probably got Tmac signed up already !

Aha! Someone else has made that observation about Max's game - particularly tapping to nowhere or no-one, no-way, no-how. Not too keen to use the body for other player protection, either. Not too keen to get in for the sausage when the barbie was full...

It means, LD-vC:

The good opportunities were there with a manpower set-up ready to break out with the ball just about in possession (sausage) or to use it in a productive manner a little more often than what actually occurred - had a utility of some size and mass been there to help create a pathway or shepherd or legally and effectively bump an opponent to prevent a tackle or / and intercept a possession not held by a MFC player, or to get in amongst it (the hotplate part of the barbie) in general to exercise at his own free will as part of good teamwork those contributions that make an approach to the football, the gaining of increasing territory in possession of the ball, and the promulgation and positive maturation thereof for an infrequent anticipated scoring opportunity when such contributions might otherwise have been possible to enact, to reduce the mounting impotence of the way we (ergo: the MFC) were playing the game with delicate passivity and glaring incompetence.

They were to little effect last Sunday, don’t misread what I was saying, I was placing him in the same category of all his teammates where he had a bad day. Most of the time his taps are to our advantage, I would imagine he was well down on his usual “taps to advantage”.

That is clearly down to poor communication between him and the likes of Oliver, Jones (who was too busy marking Mitchell), and the other midfielders. That also comes down to poor coaching by Goodwin and co as they did not correct the problem.

Can only hope they fix that for Tuesday night.

Oh spare me.. you look at that photo and immediately make the observation that Max is just strolling around? What happens if Lever was put under immense pressure from s handball or kick and had little time to react? Could have been around a stoppage area? Sold into in trouble?

Demonland at it's best.

A sports photographer would use a long lens.  Big max could be 50 metres away

he is blurred to the extreme. Not sharp so well out of the action !! So he is not close a kick behind I suggest

bloody hell I hope we win on Tuesday night   I  do not expect a win, but they need to dish up something s lot more palatable than the tripe they gave last half, I will watch from here.  Go Dees!!

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
