Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I wouldn’t call it great wisdom, I’m just blessed with common sense..

I’ll try to keep it short and easy to understand as I didn’t think it warranted any further explanation.

Posters are referencing Pederson’s good game on the weekend as a reason he should have been selected for Tuesday’s game. Do you see the issue here?

The thing is Ethan despite the illogic of it, if Weideman has a bad game it will become a big issue.

It is a proverbial "sink or swim" game for Sam, in front of 85,000 people and a nationwide TV audience.

Excellent player management for a return to AFL.

Don't like some of the inns and worse SOME WHO ARE LUCKY TO BE THERE!

Stretch ? Shape up!! Career defining game methinks. If he doesn't cut it Gone!

Harmes?? don't know why and how he was retained LAST CHANCE SURELY?

Nibbler?? Similar

Why you would keep Wagner and Drop Frost mystifies ME??

Weeds?? time to perform.

Melsksham?? owes a good game

Jeffy? gee needs to lift!

Not at all confident and if we get flogged watch this site go into Meltdown!!

Happy that Stretch gets a go this week but yes he needs to show something on the outside.

Nibbler gets a go because we saw the stats, numerous pressure acts, distance covered, contests made, etc the stats that the coaches love.

Frost out because there isn’t a matchup

Weeds in, hasn’t done enough yet, I think

it should have been Pedo tall again forward.

Jeffy in because he does perform if the side/game plan performs. He needs space and time against one opponent and will win every time.

If Weid can get enough of a run up when the ball comes inside F50 his job is to make a contest and bring it to ground - something we’ve missed since Rd 1. I hope he’s given a license to run through whoever is in his way because he’s a pretty big unit and he’ll make the Tigers think twice next time.

Get the ball to ground and we’ve got a stack of small forward options who need to position themselves correctly to rove off the packs and put the score on the scoreboard.

The coach has made his statement.

He is praying that bringing the old band back together from last year will make a miraculous difference, whilst retaining many out of form one paced mids.

One of Harmes, ANB or Melksham needed go, but we have no one in form to replace them.

The Weide will be tested while hard bodied Pedersen plays VFL. Much as l love Billy and his endeavour, he is a little out of his depth playing battle hardened bodies much quicker than he.

I understand our depth of talent is quite light on. Our ins and outs are effectively a net nil except for the one forced change, producing a net gain.

Hunt's speed will be very welcome but Bayley's composure will be missed, albeit he was probably just rested for the weekend. Bugg was a necessary out.

Last week 19.5 Hawks demoralised us. It is anyone's guess how 22 fit tigers will deal with us.

I hope all our players bring their A game tomorrow night. We will need it to be competitive against a now very slick outfit.

Anyone under estimating the league leading confidence and skill of Richmond does so at their peril.

If Goody tries that failed high press farce of a game plan, Hardwick will enjoy the night. We need something different yet something the players know how to execute.

from what I read we were still executing the high press on Sunday in the vfl and we got whacked again.

Is it time for another season defining game?

That’s a scary thought if true, that we are still trying it at vfl.

Would have struggled to get a game anyway in my opinion.

Unless something dramatic happens I can't see him on the list next year.

I think he will only play now if injuries mean we are desperate for a tall option.

And he was kicking them out of his arse! Never seen him so accurate and in rubbish conditions. Hopefully doesn't have his radar on tomorrow night.

Weideman has been spending time in the ruck in the VFL and doing quite well.  I would think that he may spend some limited time on the ball, and to retain a tall  presence in the forward line we may rest Max up forward.

Rather Weid actually mark the ball & kick the goals that's what he has been brought in for.

Disappointed Fritsch was dropped before Harmes but it wouldn't surprise if it's more down to resting and managing loads, especially with the short break afterwards.

Otherwise the changes look good on paper at least. Getting Bugg, Lewis and Frost out of the side removes three of our bottom 6 or so and we replace them with Hunt and Tyson, who should be top 6 players for us ("should", hence the "on paper" comment earlier).

I'm neither here nor there with Weideman over Pedersen. But if only for the obvious long-term upside in Weideman compared to Pedersen, might as well go with Weideman. Let's hope that at the least he gives us something to aim for when Hogan's up the ground and fixes our structures up.

My point is this, he was gifted games last year with little return, I'm not convinced he's ready yet. Surely we are still playing for the now this year not the future. Would have liked him to have proven himself a bit longer at Casey.

They weren't expecting, 'from him', they were investing in him.  the expectation will arise when he's ready,,, to pay some back. Installments, hex, whatever you want to call it.

We are paying now to teach him. to develop him, so he can return favour.  he didn't arrive gift wrapped.

Is Fritz ready? is Salem ready, is Wagner ready? is stretch ready?

Was Oscar ready in 2016/17 ?

Was Gawn ready in 2015 ?

Hope we get a bit as well !!

Agree! At least we seem better balanced to play against the Tiggers!

Melksham, Harmes & Wagner need to play at AFL level tomorrow.

Can only hope we don’t continue with high defensive press, all the defenders don’t jump for every high ball, and some of them stay down including one player 10-20 metres out from goal!

Harmes should have got the arse before Fritsch, offers more ATM.

I hear you Jib.  He was horrid last week but did have the Ruck duty on his plate.  I'm willing to give him one last attempt to redeem on the big stage.   He will need to play a ripping game though.  Lets hope he does for our sake as on his very rare days'' he can actually turn the momentum during short bursts of power footy.  Only trouble is he tends to fade away far too often in an around those rare bursts. Doesn't kick enough goals either for mine (or any of late).

I see Melk as a closer fit to Fritsch (still a fair way off Fritsch though).  A tiny bit more forward of centre and more on the outside vs Harmes which is why I mentioned Melk.

Question regarding seating. Just realised my provisional MCC membership won’t get me into this category one game and all GA tickets are sold out online.

Will tickets be available to purchase at the gate if I go early enough? Say around 5:15pm?

MCG posted on Facebook tickets may not be able to be purchased at the gates, but unsure if they are doing that so people panic and pay a premium for more expensive tickets online.

Cheers!

Love the ins, but I’m not over the moon with Harmes as the backup ruck (I suspect the coaches were hoping for a Jack Watts test ruckman result). I wonder if Weid will have a go at all.

If I see Harmes rucking tomorrow night and not Weids I'll spew up! (Plough et al)

Nah, I think its the opposite.

I think he knows its for one game only this time around.

I think TMc is due back in,,, against the bummers, 5 days after we play the Tiges.

Sam will go back to Casey, after the D's/Tiges match.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
