Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Changes v Richmond

Regardless of who comes into the team, can we please see at lotional change with Lever being sent forward to play on Rance.

Jeremy McGovern aside, Rance is the premier intercept marking defender in the comp (who is also very adept as a 3rd man up to effect the spoil).

Rance will take Lever to the ball and thereby refresh Lever's acknowledged and much-heralded ability to read the play.

At the very least, Lever would hopefully be able to negate Rance's influence and thus neutralise one of Richmond's most effective play makers.

Lever one on one with Rance...no thanks.  Rance would rag doll him and run off him as he's still regaining his feet and ruin any sceric of confidence the guy might have left.

Rance will be going to Hulk most likely even if Lever was played up forward

Well big event re the Tigers game.

A close friend who I have gone to most games with over the last 20 years informed me this morning he has gone to his last game.

He said he has finally come to the conclusion there are better ways to spend 4 hours of your life than being part of the MFC.

I am astounded I thought he would be there at the last ever game.

Sad am I!

did the member survey this week.

name 4 words that come to mind when you think of melbourne... had to include weak and frustrating.

we'll never be successful off field until we find success and consistency on it.

sad to hear old dee. I'm sure we'll keep bleeding members and supporters until we stop this pattern.

Honestly I am in shock I thought I would turn it in long before him.

Did the same survey and had a few different words but none of them were successful, enjoyable or winners.

I feel that we all expected a break out year. Last week suggests we would be lucky to play finals.

At least we will see if this club will try this week alas old dees friend wont be the last.

I hope not......failing to make finals this year would suggest more dark times ahead.

At least 4 changes this week. At least let them know mediocrity will not be tolerated.

If we win and its a bloody huge if.......there is a glimmer of light.

I didn't expect a break out year. I have supported MFC since 1968. I expect very little. e.g. I expected MFC to lose to the filth last year (Round 23) and even for Max to miss that shot v Geelong in Round 1.

So when something unexpected happens (e.g. beating Adelaide last year) I am pleasantly/genuinely surprised. Unfortunately these happenings are all too rare.

On reflection, I think this is actually about selecting for the next two games.  Given the short timeframe between games, the way we select to give ourselves the best chance of winning both games, we will need to explore the depths of the roster.  Selection has to be about what is going to serve us best across both games.  We may need to look at resting certain players in the bombers game, particularly older hands that may not pull up as fast.  I would expect a few changes for structure this week, and perhaps a significant number of changes for week 2.  I could see guys like Bernie and maybe even Jones being spelled for one of the games.  In terms of midfield, I could see us switching out 3 or 4 for rested types who played at Casey on the weeend, with an extra 3 or so days recovery.  Maynard, Balic and the like will probably be subbed in.  The bombers, who also have a short gap between games, will be in the same boat.  It may be the fittest team/ one with the deepest roster wins.  We may see a few debuts over the next two matches.

I too expect Bugg to play. Did he stuff up his opportunities? yes. But he is always heavily involved in our forward entries as a pest who draws free kicks, an opportunist crumber or makes a genuine contest in the air for his smaller size. I definitely can't say the same of Melksham. I hope he gets replaced with Hannan who can have a greater impact up forwards

I always find it interesting that people always focus on the negatives of a player, ie they missed the shot, stuffed the kick, turned it over ect. It’s almost as if they would prefer a player who made no mistakes but in doing so did nothing in the first place.

On that can someond explain why they would have Bugg out before Garlett or Fritsch this week.

I mean he had more shots on goal, more tackles and more score involvements than both of them. It seems like people would prefer he had 1 shot and 5 disposals like Garlett

It is amazing to me that people continue to support Bugg. Do you ever wonder why it is that he gets shots on goal?

It is because his opponents don't respect him and know that he won't hurt them if he gets possessions inside 50. Far better to play 2 on 1 against Hogan, and leave Bugg free, rather than allowing Hogan to compete 1 v 1 and wasting someone on Bugg.

It wasn't just his missed shots either, it is also the three-grab chest marks that prevent him from playing on quickly and the numberous ground ball fumbles.

There will be big changes this week, at least five.   We have a 4 day break after it and that will come into calculations at this weeks selection

In -       Pedersen,    Hannan,  Tyson,  JKH,  Hunt,  Stretch

Out -     Melksham,   Frost,   Lewis,  Wagner,  Fritsch,  Bugg

I'd expect at least Frost and the best performer out of Fritsch/Melksham at Casey to come back in vs Essendon , and possibly Vince and one or two others to be rested for that game.

Will be interesting to see Richmonds changes.

But Doc, we need you there......at CHB standing toe to toe like you used to.....long arms and awkward body repeatedly punching the ball with the occasional overhead mark with those long arms. Frustrating the opposition as they try and find a way around you.

My God, we need you there holding the back line together.

I know you have slowed up, but we have plenty of younger fellas who can crumb and run.

The following players have their supporters for inclusion this week:

Hunt, Balic, J. Smith, T. Smith, Hannan, JKH, Stretch, Weideman, Spargo, Johnstone, Tyson and Baker. Some of you blokes need to take a long hard look in the mirror.

Based on some posters selection criteria, Daisy Pearce must be close to a call up also.

Can we pop her on the rookie list?  She is awesome, and would play with more heart than we saw on the weekend

Pederson must come in.  As for the game I will be there with little or no expectation of winning.  We do not intimidate any teams!  The perception is real, we do not hurt sides and get bullied too easy.

I feel we intimidate teams when one certain Jack Viney is playing.. I know that might sound weird, but I've spoken to an opposition player recently who mentioned that some players, especially younger ones actually fear Viney due to his hardness and strength around the contest. Some rate him as one of the hardest players in the AFL. I feel like when he plays and is up and going, our side goes up a notch in terms of hardness and willing to intimidate opposition.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
