Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Hopefully for the Dees,J.Smith can quickly regain form after a long spell from injury. Hunt needs to come back in. Perhaps Ginga Ninja would be worth a try.Tyson should be back in. Out Lewis,Vince,Melksham and Bugg or Frost or Harmes. Must drop Jones as Captain never has been a leader thou some may disagree.

On a rethink...

Frost isn't up to it and the Tiges only play one tall, so he goes.  Hopefully forever.

Pedersen may play, but I'd rather Weideman.  Tom McDonald would be playing if he was fit and Hogan would benefit from the structure of having another tall.

Hunt is a no brainer against the quick Tiges.

Harmes hasn't come on as expected after a strong summer.  Out.

I like Fritsch and reckon he'll be a very good player, but they may want to get Hannan in.  If so, I can potentially see that swap.

As was said to me today, Lewis is finished, but they won't drop him.  The thought being that if they did, at 32, he might not get back.  So they won't.

Changes:

IN: Tyson, Hunt, Weideman

OUT: BUGG, Frost, Harmes

This is pretty close I think, but surely Melksham can't survive another game. I can't recall the last time a 150 game player was so ineffective for 4 games straight - even JW only survived 3 bad ones in a row last year. Goodwin will drop him.

Mine are:

In: Tyson, Hunt, Pederson/Weid, Hannan

Out: Bugg, Frost, Harmes, Melksham.

In: Hunt Tyson and Pederson/Weideman

Need a tall forward. Need to win the ball in the middle. Need speed out of defense.

Out: Harmes Wagner and Fritsch/Bugg/Garlett

all of the above go missing for too long in games.

Dreadfully disappointing game on Sunday.

I hope that the Selectors sit down with a blank sheet of paper, a list of all the available players and a clear idea of how the Tigers will play and how we want to play and then select a side to play. After Sunday, no one on the team should assume that they will play on Tuesday.

A second week of rubbish will really impact the supporters and the club.

I know exactly what we need to fix us up.

Run out of the back line and pace on the outside.

Bring in Hunt , Stretch, Hannan and Oskar Baker.

Bite the bullet and drop Vince and Lewis, rest Jetta and drop either Harmes or Melksham.

It won’t happen, but boy would that liven us up. We’ve got the same inside grunt, but we’ve looked slow and predictable.

Line in the sand for Goodwin...

I was off selling Miles Davis and Charles Mingus Records at the local market and got home to the mountains for the start of the second quarter opened the Glenfiddick and sat to watch us deestroy the ‘awks and then bugger bugger bugger.

Goodwin needs to assert some sense of direction now in one of two ways he can either treat it as an aberration or get strong and nasty.

OUT... Frost, Bugg, Fritsch, Petraccca, Harmes, Melksham, Jetta, Garlett, Wagner

In... Weed, Hannan, Baker, Tyson, Maynard, Stretch, Hunt, JKH, King

You got to give Frost continuity before sending him to VFL.  The only difference between Frost and Lever is their contract, if you looked at most of the game.

Melbourne supporters want our players to be brave, but the irony is that they are rarely brave in their thinking.  We need speed and dare out of D50, so that when it comes to I50, we don't permit opposition numbers to stream in.

Unlike the average MFC supporter, I'm sticking fat with Frost and asking him to take them on irrespective of getting caught.

Jono Brown has worked out Jordan Lewis.  Tonight's OTC was refreshing and overdue.  When Lewis got votes against Brisbane, Brown and Roos raised their eyebrows to the top of their heads.

For me, Melksham and Wagner have got to go back to VFL.  Our penchant for slow one-paced one-trick AFL rejects is amazing.

Roos expects Pedo and Hunt to return.  You need Pedo bringing it to ground in the F50, especially when Hogan is up the ground so much, and our I50 precision is non-existent.

Would not be dropping the Tracc or Jeffy any time soon. Others are up for discussion I suppose. Poor Jeffy he has a certain skill set that depends on finding himself one on one in an open forward line where he can exploit his speed and an uncanny ability to squeeze a goal from any angle. That depends on the team intercepting opposition attacks and rebounding the ball quickly over the back for Jeff. Do that and Jeffy will kick the goals. But against both Geelong and the Hawks we failed to execute one intercept and do a quite rebound. Game plan deficiencies big time I think.

So, I think the backs are still trying to adjust to the departure of TMcD and the arrival of Lever and just haven't been able to work out how to do it successfully as yet.  The coach really needs to pull his finger out and work out a strategy ahead of the game and have the know-how and guts  to change tactics if the strategy isn't working during the game.  Decent players like Jetta and Hibberd do not become clueless or slow for no reason.  The defense structure has changed with the arrival and departure.  Need to keep trying to sort it out.

Ins:      Pedo - can play ruck, forward or back as required.

Hunt - is quick and brave and can break lines

Stretch - fit and skilfull.  Can't work out why he hasn't been picked this season.

Tyson -  on balance is probably ahead of fellow mids in the 'Outs'.  Anyone know what his 'illness' was.  Would be nice if he and Kent found their right legs.  They might become very good footballers.

Outs:  Any four from the following - Bugg (unreliable kick, slow), Harmes (poor recent contributions),  Melksham (see Harmes), Vince (slow), Lewis (see Harmes), Fritsch (uneven contribution) and Wagner or Frost.

I had some doubts about the wisdom of selecting Kent last week but again, on balance, he's done enough to keep his spot.

I think you may be misreading what was Vince's attempt to adapt to the conditions. Hawks played them perfectly: get behind the ball and keep forcing it forward however you can. Punch, kick or just work it forward through hard tackling.

Kicking off the ground is a valid adaptive tactic when the ball is greasy like a pig, such as yesterday. I wish more of our players gave up their preferred finely skilled play for some mongrel old-style footy.

Fair comment.

Hey someone was gonna do it.

It doesn't seem as if it is a matter of our players being useless across the board. Recognised depth proves that to a certain point of surety. It seems to be a stagnation at the coaching level, combined with a persistence for mediocrity as the learning tool. Well done, Petraccattack, you are correct - someone was gonna do it and you posit the idea so clearly.

Hunt - is quick and brave and can break lines, 2-way runner. Recently chastened on his drop in form.

Stretch - fit and skillful.  Can't work out why he hasn't been picked this season. Has some pace to close on opponents.

Tyson -  ball getter, and winner. Needs kicking practices.  Would be nice if he and Kent found their right legs.

Outs:  Any four from:  Bugg (unreliable kick, slow), Lewis, Fritsch (uneven contribution). Add Vince (slow).

Gotta try something if the coaching panels cannot come up with effective means to be more competitive...

They are the obvious ones. Whether to go with Tyson, Hannan maybe even Spargo or Baker and really shake the team up is worth considering.

Baker has tons of pace, agility and drives long with accuracy. Can he play the gameplan and create? He might be a good second fiddle to Jayden Hunt on the flanks; both are great runners and pacemen. Worth a try, young Baker, surely. The Toigs are a fast side full of runners.

After a bad loss and feeling gutted l can find atleast 12 changes that they should make. However after a few days down the track the changes are getting less and less.

Hunt, Tyson and Pedo are vital to this weeks side and beyond. I believe that J Lewis and Yes J Lever have to be on notice regardless of their reputation. Enough is enough bring in the inform players.

Weideman has been suggested as an in a few times now. I’d prefer to see how he goes over the next couple of weeks in the VFL and if he goes well bring him in as fresh legs against St Kilda.

Out: Bugg, Harmes, Melksham, Frost

In: Tyson, Hannan, Hunt, Pederson

He has had two games ET the first was against lower level opponents and was good, the second last weekend against better players and not so good.

Like you not before June IMO, needs to have his confidence up and that wont happen against the Tigers.

Pedersen has the runs on the board not a great player but knows how the game works and is more often than not serviceable and Occasionally  has a very good game..

We cannot play Lewis and Lever in the same back line. Both cannot be accountable for a man and it is simply ruining our structures further up the ground.

Because we have such a dominate ruck and seem to always do well in clearances I don't see the need to ALWAYS have a loose  back.

So Lever either needs to learn to play man on man and fast or he needs a positional  change. I would like to see him playing a defensive wing or half forward where our mids can provide more assistance with his man and he can work to his strengths in contested marking and guarding grass making opposition half backs struggle to clear our forward half.

Lewis really does look cooked, Harmes is being expected to play completely out of position, Pedo would give us so much more than Harmes right now.

I'd like to Lewis, Harmes & Wagner out

In Pedo, Hannan & Hunt

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
