Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

what did you guys expect! we played terrible against Brisbane and north but we accept mediocre performances. Even some of these demonlanders who say 'a wins a win' is the attitude that leads to these losses.

We have a team full of dumb footballers with zero leadership.

Our defence is amateur hour. Hawks had 15 entries for 12 shots at goal Not sure what the finished total was but this is the identical issue to that we faced against Geelong when they had 20 shots at goal from 24 entries in the first half!

Coupled with our unbelievable inefficiency going fwd and the game was gone. 1 goal in 3 quarters of football from plenty of entries says it all.

Goodwin can't coach. There, I have said it. We are fuckered

Should have kicked 7 in the first quarter. Should coulda would. Repeat entries continually going Super wide to the pocket.

Probably should have snagged at least 2 or 3 in the second and kept them honest.

Hawks stayed in it with cheap goals over the back (5 I counted) .... Then the second half was one of the worst I can recall in a number of years ! 8 points to 67 with out a single Yelp is just not acceptable.

Jake Lever ...???.... Wtf .... He's looking like a liability at this point in time. He panics !! I thought we were bring in a cool head to really strength or back line.

I'm a little perplexed at present. Not slashing my wrists but I see zero growth and improvement this year and after today that is not a performance of a top with side.

I cannot fathom why we can't at least try to adapt our game to the conditions, but trying to play precise, highly skilled football in the wet is a recipe for disasters like today.

Once your choked on pressure; an individual or a team, its really almost the end of the session.

We as a club turn on our own, adding to the amount of pressure of today's Hawks side applies. They sacrificed their first Qtr, to focus defensively on us, mostly.

We started to react to that pressure clearly in the 2nd Qtr.   And then midway thru, the Hawks started to play their game.

We were lost in our own plans from that time on, and we were playing catch-up footy, mentally.

I'm glad that if this had to happen to us, that it was so close to the start of the season.  We have time to regroup as a team.

its going to take a bit of work to get back that belief in our direction. thats not the coaches fault.

Its a Mfc club issue, which we have had for decades.  Even in the late 80's it was still hanging around in the crevices.

I think it must have started back in the 60's and 70's, when we had become the easybeat's of the competition.

Successive coaches and admins have failed to rid us of this nightmare.. . add the Hawks (our modern day Nemesis) to this issue, and there we are today.

We must start to change off the field as supporters, when the pressure is on.

.... and we have to aim our fear/anger & our Venom at the opposition...... rather than our own players during the games.

This may start to help a little.

.

This is the Gold medal team in the AFL for disappointing its supporters and I can only say that I still cannot trust this club to do it right.  They put the cue in the rack without any fight today.  That in itself is putrid in my book.  Posted for years and still cannot see us as a serious team.  They rip your heart out!

Not saying I was thrilled with it bb, just wasn't worried yet. We were still getting enough of the ball at that stage and I've seen us have low scoring quarters before, correct it and come away with a win.

I fess i was less than happy when they strolled to an opening goal. Somewhat relieved when we started playing. Got a bit worried when wed already gone off boil by qtr time. Missing opportunity and gifting theirs wasnt a goid indication.

Goal less in 2nd quarter had me upping worry to concern.

Another qtr without a major had me scornful of the box...

Full time....yep... gunna be another year of rubbish.

After all these years...............

Countless rebuilds...........

Multiple coaches........

Several false dawns......

So many game plans i cant remember them all.............,

here we are in yet another post match thread discussing a right royal flogging by the Hawks.

The same Hawks who won 3 premierships on the trot just a few years ago, bottomed out and rebuilt.

How THE ACTUAL [censored] can we keep coming up with performances like today ? This is a game we had every right to expect a victory in. We are on the rise after all... /sarc

Goodwin is the most Vanilla coach i have ever seen. Dont reckon i have ever seen him display passion during games OR interviews. You want a team that is "resilient and humble" Goody? How bout you make us a team that can play consistent football? The players need someone to inspire them as they cant seem to do it for themselves. Goodwin is so flat and boring i doubt he has it in him.

FFS i am fuming after todays surrender.

2-2 and looking at a huge loss next Tuesday, it suddenly becomes extremely hard to make finals.  Our percentage might also be terrible if we repeat what happened today. The veil of negativity is well deserved.

This is the big one for me.  I won't go over the top with it like your last line, but the above needs to be addressed by the club.

Goodwin said in his press conference this evening that we need to get back to playing to our 'strengths' and that today we didn't play our sort of football.  That's all well and good, but what you mentioned above has happened in pretty much every game we've played in this season.  We have 6-7 repeat entries for maybe 1 goal, then they'll run it off half back and score.  It's hard to watch and must be deflating for the players.

Something needs to be done about this as we won't get anywhere near finals if this continues.

That loss against Collingwood in the final  round last year had nothing to do with our mental application ,Collingwood are simply better than us, so are Geelong, even with out Danger, and Hawthorn.

We have done nothing to prove we are a good side, beside beat mediocre teams.

Our coach is as wooden as they come, and for some reason ditched our backline coach in Rawlings, for a rookie in Chaplin.

I think Rawlings chose to move into the new role.   As a further extension to his coaching career abilities.

When you have a small fwd line WHY KICK IT LONG AND HIGH EVERYTIME!?!?

Under the pump.

The same as when a team overuses the ball in-close, when under pressure.

The Hawks/Clarko worked us over, Mentally.

Hawthorn have such a well-drilled system that even with injuries they still function.

We rely on sheer grunt and effort, but if it drops off even slightly we are doomed.

You can’t be all system or all grunt, you need a balance, ours is way off.

That was truly awful.  What can Goodie say in the presser?

Lever was honestly putrid.  Just Putrid.

beaten all over, except for Max.

Need changes in attitude, structure and application.

When you see a couple of our defenders over run the ball that's on the ground, leaving it behind them, then it's obvious, the players were way under Pressure today.

I know its no good, I was feeling sick later in the game yelling at the TV.

On both channels, while the netballers played the last minute, and lost the gold.

We need to learn to handle pressure better, and to do the little things to help one another, in these situations. even off the field guys, in the seats.

But let’s concentrate on being a ‘Melbourne Person’ whatever the feck that is.

What a pathetic excuse for a football ad campaign that is.  What idiot came up with that carp.  There is no Demon in the advertising/marketing and name of the club and there is no Demonic effort on the field either whenever we come up against a serious contender.  The Demon has been left out of all aspects of this club and is now almost a memory only.

Back where we belong around the 10 to 12 mark on the ladder.  Any higher and we are out of our comfort zone.  Richmond and Essendon will rip us new ones and that will be our 2018!  All talk, no serious advancement.  Story of a MFC supporters lot.

Anzac eve.

I'm with you, red.  It's a very, very disappointing loss that we have to swallow today, but I'm very interested in what Goodwin and the players do from here.  While much lies at the feet of Goodwin, some of the players have to take responsibility for their performances as well.

A big 8 days lie ahead.

Man I wish I could be as calm as you.

The really frustrating thing for me was this was a chance to make a real stand.

We did nothing but.

I know its early days but I cant help be concerned if not angry.

i tell myself its just a game but a flag or a flag like team wouldn't hurt. Today points to no flag this year despite the hype. Maybe therein lies the problem. We were favorites and I think this team can drink its own bath water. Many supporters have........especially me.

Tigers game will determine our season.

I tend to agree

Chappy is a lovely fella but his history in backlines - Port, Richmond and now us - leaves a lot to be desired

Our whole game plan is predicated on winning contested ball; we absolutely failed at that for an extended period today

We have failed at it in patches of games but today we really stunk it up at our core game plan

We win enough of the ball and our structures were ok for 1.5 qtrs today. But we are inefficient moving the ball forward. We are getting more of the ball and more inside 50s most weeks yet fail to do anything with them. Some are saying we are a good team/ have good players but I beg to differ. We have some good players but a lot of our players skills under pressure are ordinary and or theyre getting coached to bomb the ball vs hitting up a target. Our spread / running was non existent today after the 1st qtr. Is that laziness I'm not sure?

Defensively our structure has massive holes in it due to our running and positional set up. We get scored on too easily whilst at the other end we are fighting for every score. The game plan is inefficient and it relies on us winning the clearances. We aren't that good around the ground using space. Clarkson pulled our game plan apart in this area. For the latter part of the game it looked like they were feeding off Max Gawns taps as well.

Most supporters can see it unfolding in front of us. If the coaches don't make changes I can't see us playing finals. Hopefully this is a lesson for Goodwin.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
