Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

We have a problem.

If you took away the scores from today's game, you would think it was much closer than the scorelines suggests.  Disposals pretty close, we have more inside 50s, more contested possessions... although we got beaten generally in clearances and their tackling work showed greater desire, while ours was a disgrace when you factor in that they had more of the ball, yet had almost 40 more tackles.  That just shouldn't happen.  Having said that, you wouldn't have thought with well over 50 inside 50's that we went two quarters without a goal if you didn't know the score.

But there in lies the problem.  At the moment our efficiency going forward is terrible for large parts of the game.  There are times when we pour it on and look a million bucks, but these seem to happen for only a quarter at a time.  From then on when score in little spurts but the opposition pick up quickly that our general tactic is to bomb it long into our forward line, and if we don't mark it (which we usually don't) then our intent is to keep it in there for as long as possible to try and manufacture a goal, either from a stoppage or for us to mark a quick kick out of defence and set up again.

However, it's not working.  It's not even close to working.  You could argue that missing McDonald really hurts our structure, and that we didn't handle the conditions well at all, but this has been going on for a month.  Goodwin and the FD must be sitting up there in the box and seeing this happen.  How could they not?  We have all the talent in the world but it's going to waste with a gameplan that just isn't playing to our strengths.

Then we have the 'press' that leaves us susceptible to goals out the back, which we gave up ad nauseum today.  When we get the ball in our forward half we push numbers forward to do everything we can to keep it there.  When we don't, the opposition is just a couple of handballs away from getting out the back and it's goodnight from there.  We look second rate when we do this.  The team haven't worked out how to use Lever effectively yet and it's hurting us big time.

What I'm trying to get at is that we've seen the same things happen over and over and over again... and nothing has been done.  We can't expect massive changes during a season, but we need to see some tweaks to the game plan to fix up these mistakes.  Forget blasting individual players as right now it's not the issue.  The issue is the game plan and how the opposition works it out quickly and we don't react to it at all.

I'm not going to go banana's after this loss - it's a long season with plenty of footy to be played.  But make no mistake - Goody is under the pump a little here.  He was smashed after quarter time by the best in the business and he didn't know what to do.  He needs to show that he's not stubborn and willing to make the changes necessary to harness the talent in our side.  If he doesn't then, well, he's in a quite a bit of trouble.

Lastly - the only thing I will really have a big dig at here is his decision to play Harmes in the ruck.  Really, Goody?  Why do this when we have Weideman and Pedersen, both tall enough to play there, running around at Casey?  It makes zeros sense.  Heck, even throw Frosty in there for a run.  At least he's tall.  Supporters are right to be annoyed at him doing this as there are far better options for us.

Need to kick the ball low if small forward line. Need another tall for structure in forward line. Harmes is not a back-up ruckman! Poor coaching effort - no plan B. Very few stood up after 1/4 time - did they drink their own bathwater? Really poor effort. Better fire up against Richmond!

But let’s concentrate on being a ‘Melbourne Person’ whatever the feck that is.

I’m just gonna save this spot here so that I can come back later when all the profanities have left my body.

Special shout out to all the pissweak Hawthorn supporters who left before the game was over. Must be so boring when you win all the time.

Could barely watch the 2nd half as the international streaming service wouldn't work.

Pathetic prior to that. Too many dumb footballers, grab the ball when they should tap it, tap it to the wrong side, and our backline will never be able to compete with a quick small forward (hint, hint, next week).

Slow defenders: McDonald, Jetta, Wagner, Vince, Lever, Lewis.

Forwards and midfield lack class and smarts.

As always too many players jumping for marks, no one staying down.

Bugg has to go, kills the momentum to often. Thought he was crap last week even when he kicked the goals, got away with multiple fumbles in that game. This week decided to add the handball to a player under more pressure. By the end of the game he was too scared to even kick for goal and hand balling to Harmes under more pressure on his wrong side.

Lever, it continues. Look forward to hearing from his fanboys.

Tough to find a player who won their position.

Fig, that was disappointing.

Every one of our bottom end players played like one, and I include Kent in that.

First time a Goodwin MFC team has put the cue in the rack. Had forgotten how disgusting this feeling is. Forced myself to watch the last 15 minutes. Don't even know why.

Going to have a quiet sook to myself tonight I think.

Wiseblood, you are probably the most optimistic poster so that shows how big the problem is. Fairly sure it was you who said they weren't worried at half time?

Smart teams are always going to expose us on the rebound. Our backline and structure is rubbish. Lever has made us worse.

Problems are actually simple, we have no idea how to play in the wet, and no plan b.

The players spent half the day looking frustrated because our game plan needs it to be dry and we have no wet day game plan.

Out coached, which made us out classed.

One goal in essentially 75% of the game says it all. Weak.

No leadership  (yet again)

Bugg, lever, harmes, lewis should all be canned but wont.

Zero adaption to wet weather.

I want answers for that so called performance.

I was the first one to say for others to calm down after the first two rounds.

Today was utter poo.

Effort isn't usually the issue (today's tackle count says otherwise). Ability isn't the issue. Football smarts is clearly a huge issue.

Terrible

Beaten in every aspect of the game today. Sad after a promising start.

Our biggest issue is we lack outside class, none of players seem to have composure, and it's been a problem for a long time.

Long way to go....

I don't think we are final contendars but before everyone goes batshite cray... Tiges did lose to the Crows by 100 last year as well.

I wasn't worried at half time either, but I was bloody worried half way through the third.

Well that was a good ol’ fashioned flogging.

I’m afraid we don’t have the class to set up how we are.

Gawn goes for a spell and we lose control of the match.

Hogan goes forward as a target and we lose drive.

We need Pedders as a swing-man until at least Tmac is back.

A small forward-structure may be fine, but we don't have the one-touch finishers.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
