Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I didn't know there was a park named after Ron Barassi Snr. Is there any specific reason why this park was named after him?  Wikipedia tells me that he was killed at Tobruk and "was the first VFL footballer to lose his life in the conflict". (It's a bit ambiguous - unclear whether that means he was the first to be killed in WW2 or the first at Tobruk). I'm perfectly comfortable that a park be named after any of our defence force personnel killed in action, but I was wondering if there's more to it?

Ditto.

Apparently 3 names were put to the public:  "... the Barassi name on a shortlist of three options for the park.  The others are Lancey, in honour of Melbourne pioneer Capt John Lancey, and Dudley Flats, which was a shanty settlement in the area on the banks of the Moonee Ponds Creek until the 1950s.

Perhaps the public selected the Barassi name as it was most recognisable.

Looks like club updated the site

http://melbournefc.com.au/news/2018-04-18/melbourne-delighted-by-casey-funding

Chief executive Peter Jackson said the club was delighted with the Andrews Government’s commitment to Casey Fields.

“We think this is a great investment, not only for the City of Casey, but also for female football and for the further upgrade to the facilities at Casey Fields,” he said.

Carefully chosen words by Jackson.

Not locking MFC into Casey.

I don't think there is any doubt that we urgently need a city based site.

An update on new location of AFL House in the docklands precinct.  http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-05-02/proposed-site-of-new-afl-house-revealed

This caught my eye:  ' The space is on the opposite side of the road to Ron Barassi Snr Park, which is home to a public AFL-size community oval'.

Could that be the site of our future facillity.  Maybe it is wishful thinking on my part...

I certainly hope not 'Lucifer'...

Our home is the MCG, if we move a training facility to docklands it wouldn't take much imagination to see our home ground moving there also.

Tennis Australia have big plans for the precinct around Laver, maybe we have a part to play.

Very, very good point 'rjay'.

Even now, it scares me the number of 'Home' games Essendon (4) and Carlton (5) have at the G and they want more!

Carlton seems to get favoured status by the AFL on just about every criteria despite their small membership base and woeful performance.  And, with 70,000 members I can see Ess demanding the MCG as its Home ground.  Yuk. Yuk.

I'm convinced - looking at the big picture let's not set up our facility anywhere near Docklands!!

Given that clubs are non profit and that both the MCG and Docklands are owned by not for profit organisations that receive very large injections of taxpayer funding it is about time the various stadium deals were made public. Same could be said for Geelong.

There is a certain inevitability in MFC moving to a smaller stadium if we continue on the same relative growth rate to other clubs as we are now. We have to target 50,000 members in 2020 (will require on field success with a good brand of football) if we are to dislodge Carlton who are the most vulnerable.

If the level 2 seating lockout at Docklands was remedied and the stadium was made spectator friendly in the next upgrade it would be something that has to looked at very closely.

Like everyone I love the MCG but it makes sense to look at the alternatives closely even if they are ultimately rejected.

Crikeys Jim. The Melbourne Football Club not based at the MCG is not the Melbourne Football Club. Other teams grew from their suburbs or cities, we are born from our ground. Like many here I am the most rusted on of member but I probably wouldn’t support the Club if based elsewhere. I believe the Club would quickly cease to exist.

I would not be happy with a home base at Docklands?

It would make more sense to relocate the tennis at the Docklands, as it has Southern Cross station close by, and as they do not need a big field to play, such as a footy club, it would be perfect for tennis.

Then they could use the land where the tennis is at the moment to build a training ground that is close by the MCG.

We must be based next to the Richmond Railway Station. Our social hub has to be right at the station and overlook our training facility. Even if we have to build over Olympic Boulevard to do that.

Easy access to public transport is a MUST.   For dining patrons and for our supporters with disability.   Not to mention functions before and after.

Its time this Demon outfit was turned into a True Blue Aussie-Rules CLUB. for all people.

An Social & Office setup above the section of tram tracks that turn past the Clay Tennis Courts of Tennis Australia would benefit public transport users as it will allow some undercover shelter for Hot Summer'y or Winter'y conditions, servicing the precinct.

It would need be built Over the Tram tracks & the section of parkland at opposite 112 Olympic Boulevard Melbourne Vic, and across Olympic Boulevard right to the edge of Gosch's Paddock...  Overseeing the training grounds.

Don't shoot the messenger.

The Docklands is actually in Melbourne whereas the MCG is in East Melbourne/Jolimont

Other than MFC I cannot think of one club that hasn't moved its home ground over the years.

Change doesn't have to equal death.... at least have a think and a look at the alternatives.

Timbo... I think Eddie was proposing a 35k seat stadium which would be too small.

BTW on another thread I posted some construction costs on stadiums around the world based upon costs per seat. The new Perth stadium was almost double the cost per seat of the next most expensive stadium. Strangely the new 40k seat German stadium was relatively cheap. I raise this because the new Docklands may end up being more expensive than continuing at the MCG.

docklands and east melbourne are both in the city of melbourne boundary.

neither docklands or east melbourne are in the sub division of melbourne ("suburb") within the "city" of melbourne

The Tigers training ground complex is in Melbourne 3004.  So are the Pies.

Olympic Boulevard and Gosch's Paddock are in Melbourne, 3004.  As is Richmond Station, well half of it.  OUR Half is... in 3004.

true, with respect to the football dept. However, our HQ and administrative centre plus shop are in East Melbourne 3002

so we are split between the melbourne and east melbourne post codes (both being in the City of Melbourne Council boundaries)

so let's get this straight... no other club has their moniker suburb as their home ground but for some reason it's sacred to the MFC?

Some days I give up pointing out that we are a struggling club that has one last chance to get it right (the next 10 odd years) before we are permanently left behind by the power clubs of the competition.

The MCG is our home ground...it's not our fault every other club wants to play there.

The rot started with Richmond now everyone wants in on the act.

Moving from the 'G' would be the last straw...

You are right though, we are on our last chance...Casey is apparently starting to work as far as new fans go, success now and we can start to replicate what the Hawks have done. Failure and we're done.

I don't care if the base is in Lismore (it would suit me actually), only at the MFC would we be splitting hairs about how many digits off 3000 the home ground is.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
