Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Eddie McGuire announcing tonight that the State Government tipping in huge amounts of money for redevelopment of MCG. That is the good part.

He also announced that the AFL is, along with the State Government, spending money on developing Western Oval, Moorabbin, ikon Park (Princes Park) and of course Victoria Park.

There are further plans for the Docklands.

Guess who still has no training ground in the city and hasn't got anything other than money for that sheizenhole Casey? Can't help but think we are shafted again and have been left behind. Eddie everywhere has had a big hand in all this and we are nowhere again. All this money and nothing for the MFC.

We have been  speaking about a potential inner city home base for years and you'd think something may have come in this huge plan, but no, nothing.

I am happy to be made to look a fool of we announce something tomorrow, but certainly wasn't mentioned by Eddie.

we don't want to be at Casey.  We want a city base. We are melbourne. It's a joke. The club has been trying to get something going and all these other clubs are being looked after

Happy for MCG and Docklands funding -    but the rest of the money for old suburban grounds is just pork barreling.

I just about fell off my seat when they mentioned Moorabbin.  How much state money has St Kilda already copped for that facility and the Frankston one.

My anger comes from the fact that these clubs are going to benefit from the upgraded facilities and we are stuck sharing AAMI park with fifteen other sports clubs and driving an hour to a windy sheizenhole nearer to Frankston than Melbourne.

What more development does the Gee need? Let’s build the northern stand higher to cast even more shadows over the ground.  Can’t we spend State $millions on something else, someone or something that needs it? Millions for the elite, stuff all for grass roots sport.

And yet you would be the first to complain on grand final day when there aren’t enough seats for supporters and too many boxes for the corporates.

Here is an updated article:  https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/andrews-government-set-to-splash-cash-on-footy-stadiums-20180412-p4z9bg.html

The 'cash splash' has the makings of classic 'pork-barelling'!!  Nonetheless mfc could get involved:

1) The Etihad precint earmarked to get $225 million.   Could we piggy back that?  The Docklands area has been on our radar in the past.  There is 'Docklands Park', a rather barren looking grassed area.  It could be put to much better use for many sports/community uses while keeping its 'open space' aspect.  Plenty of room for a footy oval, MFC trainining and admin facilities etc.   And cbd and southbank dwellers could use good community sporting/recreational facilities.

2) Part of the broader plan is for major development of the MCG, including revamp of the Southern Stand - not sure if this means just the arena itself or includes the wider precinct.  Is it feasible that part of Gosch's paddock be converted to a proper oval and facilities befitting an AFL club, with other community and commercial facilities?

The article says this has been two years in the making.  Suspect it is no coincidence that we have sold Leighoak to get some capital and put our 'chips on the table'.  Also, Peter Jackson seemed upbeat about finding 'a spot' with commercial facilities (in or around the cbd) this year.

Would be shattered if 1/2 billion dollars is spent in around AFL cbd venues and we don't feature.

Edit:  Just saw this quoting Eddie:

“A concourse will be built and a redevelopment of Richmond station ... so that you’ll never have to put your foot on the road again at Brunton Avenue or Punt Road....There’ll be cafes, there’ll be food trucks, there’ll be all sorts of areas. You know what we saw on grand final night in Swan Street, that’s what it’ll be like at the MCG and Etihad (Stadium).”

My hopes of MFC being involved are looking futile:mellow:

I would say we should hold our horses. Recent announcement that we have sold assets and will reinvest the money rather than pay down debt says to me something big is in the works.

I agree. And I suspect (it's only a hunch with no hard evidence) that getting out of the pokies business was a condition of getting whatever State or Federal financial assistance we might receive. I may end up with egg on my face, but that's the sort of bargaining that goes on when seeking State or Federal funding.

By the way, the McGuire announcement, which is also in today's Herald Sun, may not be the full story. Governments like drip-feeding good news stories, so I wouldn't be surprised if there's more to come. Perhaps a further announcement in the State Government budget next month.

They got $12M from the Federal government less than 10 years ago to spend, and now they want more?

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
