Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Melksham said prior to the game that the North boys sledged a lot when they played Melbourne (and it wasn't like we didn't give them insufficient ammunition).

I think this time at least we hit hard but we didn't go overboard. There were more Nev Jetta on Brown style hits and less Bernie Vince on Ben Cunnington hits (who responded beautifully).

It was a definite tactic of theirs to throw us to the ground and impose themselves physically wherever possible. This time we answered pretty well I thought.

why the [censored] does a professional footballer, in todays age, with all the coaches and strength and conditioning guys at there disposal need to hire a [censored] personal trainer to do things outside of the scope that their own conditioning staff have pencilled in for them.

To me it screams either

a. incompetence of our staff to put blokes on the right pathway with the right fitness plans

or

b. complete lack of faith of our staff to deliver whats in a.

or

c. a massive lack of personal drive to accomplish whats been set.

either way i wouldn't be promoting this as a football club to the outside world

Some people just can’t see positives in anything.

To me Salem wanted to achieve his very best .... maybe at a time when the club was required NOT to be involved with player training programs, or just to come back to official club activities ahead of the game.

Nothing wrong with wanting to achieve an edge (not the EssUndone way) through extra personal effort.

All kudos to him.

Good on Christian for turning things around, but it is a little disappointing that he had to be told these things at year end. It should have been apparent to him throughout the year that he wasn't fit enough and, if not, the coaches should have been all over him about it.

Couldn't agree more. Every time I read an article like this about the penny only dropping now, or the stories from the end of last year about players not understanding what 24/7 professionalism means, I ask myself - what the heck was Roos getting paid $1.5m a year for?

Yeah, he rebuilt the list but it is staggering the players had to miss the finals by 2 goals to understand professionalism. I thought the mental side of the game was Roos' bread and butter and I'm staggered the players still didn't understand professionalism until the pre-season just gone.

Salem's first couple of years have been blighted by injury or illness,so his base wasn't where it was supposed to be, not his fault

He wanted to play midfield this year and was told what he had to do to achieve this, he went away and did it, professionalism

Young, younger players who completed full pre season without a hiccup, for first time or in a while

Petracca

All in form and playing well

Probably easier to train over summer when you aren't dropping bricks on your head.......

Salem, at times, appears scared, hesitant, nervous and/or worried about tackling and 'going in for the ball' when there is congestion or a few opponents very nearby. He often goes to ground, as well. When these factors do not impinge on him, he can be very good at the ball, passing by both hand and foot, and quick to make yards. He is small relative to most other players and this alone should identify his skills needing to be shepherded more often - almost automatically - for the positive effects that his terrific disposal can achieve. It would also assist him to stay upright on his feet.

he hasn't torn free from the apron strings or similar, just yet; at least looks that on appearance. Like he's running around on one of those elastic leashes parents sometimes use for kids, instead of dogs.

He appears like he wants to let himself go but doesn't dare break that mind restraint.  a conservative type trait.

So because he was injured he wasn't part of the club while Roos was there and didn't attend any of the meetings or get any insight from the coaches into what professionalism and standards are?

It was obvious the second Salem rocked up to the club that he had to go easy on his mum's cooking, strip a lot of puppy fat off and get serious.

It shouldn't have taken years to get that message.

its not the words wjd,,,, do as I say, its do as is being done around you.

It Is the actions of your peers; that's is the culture the club stands buy.  And you cannot buy it, a great culture.

You have to grow your own, because its organic in nature.

We (Mfc) are starting to learn.

I suggest, instead of being a smartarse,  do a bit of research on thyroid issues and see the impact it can have in the body

Thyroid issues can have a very serious effect on the body. Last year I was concerned that young Salem may not make it. That he appears to have overcome this serious medical problem is excellent news.

Some absolute garbage written in this thread. I don’t know what people are watching.

Kid who has struggled to string blocks of footy together, for numerous reasons, hasn’t found consistency yet, isn’t that shocking?

Anyway, his hit on Majak after Majak nearly knocked Lewis’ wig off made me smile. Onwards and upwards for Salem

Great to see a positive and optimistic comment on this board.

Too many glass half empty folk here (though many decayed decades may account for at least some of this)

Just what I was thinking, while Eddie was creaming his pants over literally everything the Majak Daw did I was so pleased with how hard he tackled a guy twice his size and made him feel it. He's got a bit of mongrel in him, if channelled properly I think he'll be around around for a long time yet.

At the end of the 2016 season Christian did not go overseas for a holiday, but did extra training to get fitter. He knows he has to fight for his place in the side. He is determined to be a Melbourne player.I spoke to a family member after one of his concussions and C. was not allowed to to watch tv or use a computer/ iPad for 2 weeks as part of his recovery. His father Alex was a Bombers supporter_ not now!He is 100% A Demons supporter and goes to the games as well as training.I hope he leads the team out on Sunday-50 Games played.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
