Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I prefer to play Oliver on Mitchell. That way  Oliver can do his best work, and we aren’t wasting a player tagging an untaggable player. It’s very hard to tag an inside mid like Mitchell.

This is spin.

Oliver is an inside mid and he got tagged last week by Jacobs and his influence was very much down on his normal output.

They definitely must lock down on Mitchell, keep his possession count in the 20’s and we win comfortably.

Just had a wander over to the Hawks Big Footy forum.  Came back very annoyed.  Very confident of a win over there, one poster even said Jesse Hogan and Sam Frost aren't great forwards and should be covered easily by Frawly and Stratton.  Really knows his stuff that bloke.

Also found this gem:

"Melbourne a due for a bad loss so I hope we can dish it out. They’re a limited team that’s had a very soft start to the season. They are exactly the kind of team that we need to beat to jump above that logjam of sides trying to improve."

Only one poster out of 10+ pages was concerned about the degree of underestimation going on over there.

Not sure if it's because of the number of smug Hawthorn supporting friends I have, but I can't stand the Hawks.  Really hope we turn up and win this one.

Didn't mind the side last week.  Hoping we play a defensive forward on Sicily, not sure I could emotionally handle him tearing us up.  Cyril is another one that causes us headaches, hoping Nev isn't injured and can go with him, otherwise bring Hunt back.

Last time we played the Hawks we had no Gawn. We also handballed 237 times to 193 kicks (Dorks had 138HBs to 218 kicks). They outmarked us 106 to 75.

We were 1 point down at 3/4 time and lost by 3pts.

Don't let them control the footy and we should win.

True, we hadn’t really worked out how to use TMac and Pedo in the ruck with Gawn out a week or two before, McEvoy had about 50 hitouts. Should be a very different story on Sunday.

If Goody is true to his mantra, picking a team on form rather than on reputation, there should be at least one change this week.

-----

Inform from the 22:

Wagner, Lewis, Frost, Vince, Jones, Clarry, Gawn, Trac, Kent, Hogan, Garlett, Bugg, Salem

Neither Inform/Out of form from the 22:

Oscar, Jetta, Hibberd, Lewis, Tyson, Fritsch, Harmes,

Out of form from the 22:

Lever, Melksham, ANB,

----

Inform from Casey:

Balic (6 goals), Pedo (26 + 15 marks), Weid (5 goals), Hannan (25 + 3 goals), Brayshaw (22)

-------

My 22 vs Hawks:

FB: Jetta - Oscar - Hibberd

HB: Wagner - Frost - Lewis

C: Harmes - Jones - Vince

HF: Trac - Hogan - Kent

FF: Garlett - Fritsch - Bugg

R: Gawn - Clarry - Salem

Int from :Tyson, Lever, Melksham, ANB, Balic, Pedo, Weid, Hannan, Brayshaw
My choice: Tyson, Lever, Melksham, Pedo

Gawny, I think against the Dawks smalls, we cannot go in too tall down back.

IMO we need to have one main tall key back (Oscar),,, and the 2nd tall has to be excellent against the smalls, intercepting, playing small, reading the play, etc.

So I think Frost is superfluous this week, for these reasons...  and is not such a forward as to create in the front half; he can only play defensive tall forward. which will have its times of need imv.

However this week I think we need the Bear in.  PedoBear is needed to chop-out Maxy in the ruck, and to help work-over BBMcEvoy. He can also chip in with goals on occasion.

He is one who can do those 1% in tight situations, that allows our smalls to shine. can go down back IF required.

This would allow MaxtG to play some time out of the Goal-square, with his goblins around him. Creating, mischief.

Cameron Pedersen great foil for Big Max, has a positive track record as a forward against the Hawks and loves a dry, fast track in the sunshine at the 'G' ! Weather forecast for Sunday?

Typically North are one of the Hawks match nemesis's.   The Hawks hold no superstitious fears for the Roos.

The Bear would have some of this belief/attitude built into his makeup before he arrived on our doorstep.

We could use his belief/attitude this weekend to spread through our young lads, for them to feed off and adopt as their own.

To me, the balance is better this week with switching Frost for Pedo.

Also I would switch one of the out of form mid/half-forwards for Dion.

That would be all I would do, just the 2 changes.

It's pretty hard to mark handballs, these days.   The umps are right onto it.

I want out talls playing high, except one around 35mtrs.  and a spacious 50Mtrs if we can achieve it.

Spot on.  If Mitchell is allowed a free run the Hawks probably win.  If he isn't we probably win.  Definitely not Clarry as the tagger though.  ANB & Harmes pls

ANB may not be a tagger, but he’s not soft. I find your comment disrespectful.

Besides, he had 18 or so possessions which was better than Harmes & Melksham

it's absolutely disrespectful. but it's true. just because he got possessions doesn't mean he early them. i like ANB, but he's a soft outside player and always will be. his attributes are his tank, goal sense and foot skills (when on).

He's got endurance, to run wititchell.  He can cover mile which would be neededto mind Mitchell.  We don't.  have many with strong tanks.

And with ANB down on form, a negating role might be helpful.

On the fringe after last week.  I would say thats a great challenge for him to retain his position in the team.  Keep mitchel to 25 - 30 possessions with a little assistance from others and he has played an important role this week. One of only a few in the team with the speed/tank to run with Mitchel and what else he does wont really be missed in this role.

Maybe Brayshaw, was tagging in the VFL on the weekend.

Possibly Watts.  Not sure he has the speed, agility or tank (at AFL level just yet, given no games so far) to run with Mitchell for more than a half of footy right now.  He would probably be spent about half way through the 3rd, then we are effectively a man down.

ANB with cameos from Harmes , Salem & Vince might be a nice fix for Mitchell

Can you be both ruckman and tagger at the same time?

Possibly Weid in for Melk Red & Blue.  And ANB does most of the tagging role so even if there's no Weid or Pedo,  Harmes obviously wouldnt need to be in two places for the entire match anyways.

Melksham has gained enough credits from last year and his preseason IMO. This year has been a bit of a slow start and he has (just) missed a few goals but he hasn't been terrible. I would stick with him as he clearly looks an AFL class player to me.

ANB has been ordinary as well this year and missed several marks going back with the flight of the ball on Saturday.

Still, I think the best omission to maximise our chance of winning against Hawthorn is Bugg, with Hunt coming in.

The only other change I would consider would be Brayshaw for ANB, but I can't read much into the VFL form against Coburg given the strength of the opposition.

Melksham 16 disposals at a DE36% and 1 tackle, not good enough for a more senior player.

I am not sure that Brayshaw is a good selection as a tagger as he is a great ball carrier and comes into the play well through various footballing attributes. If he was placed in a key tagging role, perhaps some of these noted skills and ball movement would be missed around the midline/ground?

Rapidly changing tags for Mitchell would possibly force him to adapt to these different players and their styles across the game - this would be beneficial, surely? ANB, Harmes, Salem and a 'weekend with Bernie' could possibly throw his game into some chaos and confusion?

Provided the tagger can keep up with him Dee ? But yes a little of that and keeping the tagger fresh both physically and upstairs a little also.  Would be pretty taxing and boring having to go almost an entire match in a heavy lock down I would imagine eh.

Seems apparent when watching also,  doesn't seem to tackle much and be willing to take the tackle either.  It's a tough game I realise and not expecting every player to be capable of doing what the skipper, Harmes and Clarry are doing most weeks, but at AFL level you need to be able to do both occasionally when required.  If you don't or aren't willing to very often it eventually catches you out and impacts the team as a whole and can result in some small, but in some cases, significant wins for the opponent on the day.

Melk & ANB are both on the fringe after Saturday I would think.  Melk having a slightly better second half, funnily enough after the knock he received!  So does show some grit but needs to start getting his hands a bit dirtier in general play IMO to earn his place.  ANB needs to hold more marks and get to where the ball is more often (see Bugg!).  Seems to go missing for large chunks of a game too often.  Would like to see him given the chance to play a lock down on Mitchell this week though as a  challenge to maintain his spot.

The team is going to be a little awesome to overcome once Melk and ANB return to their impressive, competitive streaks, with Brayshaw coming up in the same good form. Most of the 'links' will be strong again - and then TMac and Viney hit the park, as well. That would be intimidating to any opponent.

Thats what I was thinking, out of form, give him the role to quell TMitchell.

quiet on he changes front this week.

I watched the replay and although Ive grown to like Milkshake, I think he is too out of form to keep his spot. decision making is poor.  I'd bring in Pedo for him or Weed if they think he is match fit enough. If Pedo doesn't perform in the 1s over the next 2-3 weeks it could be the last we see of him with Weed coming on and T Mac coming back. i'll back him in to kick a couple and start marking it

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
