Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I would bring back Hunt this week. I know he hasn't been great so far this year, but I feel we need his speed to combat the likes of Smith, Rioli, Breust and Puopolo. Finding an omission is difficult because our lesser players had good games i.e. Kent, Bugg, Tyson, Salem.

My only change would be In: Hunt, Out: Bugg. (Yes I watched the game, but I think we need to be forward looking.)

Has player ever been dropped after kicking four goals?

Has any team actually put a tag into Mitchell?  Collingwood and Geelong certainly didn't. Surprising given the talk after round 1

He's a great player and he is a good chance to get a lot of touches true. But of the three teams that the Hawks have played I think McEvoy has been dominant as ruck. It will be interesting with Gawn in the form that he is in and how he taps to advantage how much that impacts Mitchell at stoppages.

I wonder if we tag or get a player to run with him... I'm excited to see Oliver, Salem and Petracca line up against Mitchell & O'Meara. But the rucks will be probably even more telling in the outcome for the midfield!

Don't reckon he has the engine, Ouch

Had a pic taken with him during the X games and his build is definitely suited to a power role, rather than hard running all day

Hope he becomes a champion, but with just 11 disposals yesterday, I wouldn’t be surprised if Fritsch gets a rest.

I find it interesting that people find fault with the games of some but others appear to be a protected species. Fritsch might be a very good player in time but at the moment he only impacts occasionally, in a similar way to Hannan, whereas ANB and Melksham are more constantly in the game and do more than Fritsch. I can't see how ANB or Melksham (assuming no injury concerns) would be left out before Fritsch.

Edit: I should add I'm not necessarily advocating for Fritsch to be dropped...although if we want a second marking target or a real second ruckman, maybe he'd be the unlucky one to go out.

Melksham has gained enough credits from last year and his preseason IMO. This year has been a bit of a slow start and he has (just) missed a few goals but he hasn't been terrible. I would stick with him as he clearly looks an AFL class player to me.

ANB has been ordinary as well this year and missed several marks going back with the flight of the ball on Saturday.

Still, I think the best omission to maximise our chance of winning against Hawthorn is Bugg, with Hunt coming in.

The only other change I would consider would be Brayshaw for ANB, but I can't read much into the VFL form against Coburg given the strength of the opposition.

Melksham did make a bad blue when he had a shot on goal rather than centre the ball to Kent I think it was. Hasn't been the goal scorer that he was last year but he does have good endurance and can win one on ones.

I think he would only be in the gun if Goody wanted to bring in a tall but I would probably drop ANB first. His missed marks were crucial forays forward that he fluffed. I read elsewhere that he heard footsteps and if these are the incidents they are referring to I don't buy it. He just had a bad day.

Totally agree.... I'm more generally referring to our midfield pitted against theirs. When Petracca is in there, I hope he can work them over pretty hard, but agree he won't run the whole day out!

We will run a lot of players through there and these players will need to run, spread, and get physical making it hard for them from the opening bounce!

MItchell can be shut down but at what cost. O'Meara off the leash? They may decide that JOM hurts you more than Mitchell.

But Bernie could keep Mitchell to under 15 I would think...

Agree, we should try and limit his effectiveness forward of centre, don’t allow him to kick 2-3 goals like Geelong did.

It's all about perception and speculation La DvC. With Fritsch, in a tight game, one could think he could be spectacular, and a match winner. But look at the other two, Melksham and Hannan have actually done it when it's been tight. Nobody is protected. It's the thrill of our Team now........

Under 15?

I reckon the FD will be thrilled to concede 30

I reckon they're a bit light on in the midfield compared to us, apart from Mitchell, O'meara is still working his way back into form after so long and then you've got C graders like Shiels, Langford and Duryea - not exactly intimidating! Provided we stop Mitchell from getting completely off the leash we should have a significant edge there.

Maybe Bernie and ANB get the nod to quell Mitchell.   If Mitchell wins the ball, we want him to cough it up.

I don't believe he has been hard tagged.

Last year he was getting 3 or 4 possies in a small possession chain and not hurting teams. This yr he appears to be more effective in gaining metres.

MItchell isn't fast so IMO if Dangerfield can be hard tagged by Bernie then Mitchell can be easily. But my point remains, at what cost?

If it means OMeara getting 30 possessions then you wouldn't do it because I believe JOM would hurt you more with those 30.

Yeah ME kicked 4 in the last practice match at Oakleigh U 17 and spent next 4 weeks carrying Drinks! Enough I said, so ended up at Dees U 19 at invitation and played quite a  few games before concussion issues forced curtailment of that foray. The rest is for another time!

Fascinating story PF. Helps us nobodies understand your vehemence on the concussion issue.

Hope all ended up well mate.

The selectors have made the right decisions so far and the contentious decisions have worked out.

I will  go  with what they think we need this week.

Personally, I believe we do need another tall forward in the lineup, especially with Hogan roaming a fair bit in to the mid field.

Not sure who we would drop for that inclusion.

The only player IMO opinion who should miss out from last week is Bailey Fritsch. Like many of you I am so excited by the way he plays - that early mark against Geelong and that disallowed gem versus North are season highlights so far, but against North he provided zero tackles and was unable to lock the ball in with the same degree of ease as Trac or Bugg or Kent or even Oliver in the last term

Pretty sure he is secure.

We missed the marking target of Pedersen who should come in for Melksham.

I like Melksham as a forward but he’s out of form.

Spot on .

We also need Pedos height with Hogan playing everywhere.

Only change.

OMeara still needs to get those 30 against the rest of our midfield, which will not be easy.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
