Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Changes v North Melbourne

Assuming no injuries, I wouldn’t be making any changes other than, perhaps Vince or bugg for Brayshaw. Brayshaw did play a nice cameo up fwd in the Jlt so might be viable.

Pedersen has to say in to ruck when Gawn is off and to play as a decy tall fwd, we have no one else who can play that role.

Lewis despite his brain fades stays as I think his knowage on field is invaluable to a young team plus he’s fine the other 90% of the time, he was instrumental in our 2nd half turn round last week.

Wagner did enough for mine, probably says more about our lack of depth that he stays in the side, what I would give to still have Howe, he single handily kept pies in the game today.

Frost for Hunt (inj) is the obvious one. With the bonus it gets Lever back in his rightful position and hopefully keeps the speed in the back 6.

I guess Vince stays as the midfield group and gets the tagging assignment on Higgins.

I'd consider Wagner for Brayshaw which would allow Bernie to go to half back and Gus on ball or vice versa. Or both to have back and Lewis to fall down a well.

Salem as a mid is a positional move that just has to be seen through for a lot longer yet. He's so smart around the contest and we need that. Don't judge his game on possessions.

Bugg can't mark and can't kick it through the big sticks but his pressure work and contesting was very good so he stays for one more week.

ANB is on the watch and see list after another turnover filled game. His form last year and fitness get him the nod for now but we have a lot of midfielder/forward types at Casey.

Interesting to hear Roos defend not picking Frost, with the mention of Hibberd and Wagner playing taller than they actually are. However, I think its affecting the make up of the  rest of the back six, mostly Hunt and Lever.

Hunt needs to be one of the two out-and-out attacking defenders, and with Wagner there, it seems like he is hesitant to attack and holds back.

Lever obviously needs some confidence, and we need to do the right thing by him and play him as the 3rd tall.

Both of these things can be fixed with Frost coming in for Wagner.

----

Bugg gets one more week. Remember everyone was calling for Garlett to be dropped, and he literally won the game off his own boot.

With depth, you need to string good performances in the twos together to warrant a game. You can't come straight in after 1 decent hit out... So if Bugg is poor again, Kent/Hannan could come in.

-----

FB: Jetta - Oscar - Hunt

HB: Hibberd - Frost - Lever

C: N.Jones - Salem - Lewis

HF: ANB - Pedo - Melksham

FF: Garlett - Hogan - Fritsch

R: Gawn - Oliver - Trac

I: Tyson - Vince - Bugg - Harmes

E: Kent - Wagner - Stretch - Brayshaw

Incredible that was ever put up as a suggestion by anyone.  Mind boggling really.

In: Frost, Brayshaw

Out: Wagner, Hunt

Frost for Wagner has been covered. Accounts for North’s attack whilst freeing up Lever to do the job he’s best at.

If Hunt isn’t tucking it under his arm and breaking the lines then his spot is better occupied by someone who can find the ball and use it well. He’s doing neither at the moment.

Re Lewis and Salem, we don’t have the luxury of dropping two of the best if not the best kicks in the side.

Salem isn’t racking up possessions but he had a few key score involvements. He will get better as the season rolls on.

Forget about Lewis being dropped. That isn’t happening.

I don't think we'll see Bugg winning the game off his wayward boot anytime soon.

I love his pressure and run but he really doesn't offer much else.

I love it, Clint.  Drop 4 blokes after a win yet you have no idea who to bring in for them.  Clearly you've thought it through.

I can see possibly Frost getting a run, but the rest are probably okay.  Bugg offered more than Hannan, Lewis is no chance at this stage of being dropped and apart from one howler Wagner continues to build his confidence.

If anything, Salem and Hunt are on the shakier ground.  Hunt had just 6 touches while Salem, apart from a few good kicks forward, had little influence for the second week in a row.

I thought Salem was pretty good. There were 2-3 moments where he effected the play defensively at critical times when brisbane we’re away which resulted in turnovers which we swooped on, so he’s safe for my mind even though his stats sheet looks sparse

I agree Salem wasn't brilliant and doesn't deserve to be dropped, I wouldn't be making more than 2 changes despite the poor second half.

Kent would need a 2-3 games before being considered again.

Frost and Brayshaw should be def ins for Wagner and Bugg/Harmes.

i do like brayshaw..but if we bring him in we need to bring in some speed.

bloody jordan lewis was so bad. he may not be dropped but he definitely should be. sh@t his pants playing on Christiansen and his kicking has cost us several goals each week.

Agree a few good performances in the twos are required before getting back into the ones, and Frankston will be close to the worst VFL team, so wouldn’t get to carried away by one weeks performances by a number of players.

Two changes after any game is about as many as should happen, with exception of injuries.

Agree with Frost for Wagner and I don’t think we can have Lewis and Vince in the team together.

Would like to see Brayshaw come in and get given half a dozen games. I only saw last 15 mins and highlights from last night, but Lewis looked poor.

In: Frost Brayshaw

Out: Wagner Lewis

A few players on watch include Salem (doesn’t do enough week in week out), Hunt (is he injured), ANB (not doing enough).

Was it his hip or lower back?  I know he had another back complaint in the pre-season and he certainly seems restricted.  This is a real concern for a side that doesn't have a lot of leg speed anyway.

I can't see a lot of changes being made, but I would bring in both Frost and Kent.  Hunt, if he doesn't pull up or Wagner who would be slightly unlucky, (though I'm not a fan of his kicking anyway) and Bugg (he is simply a terrible shot on goal).  Lewis won't be dropped, nor will Salem.

Going forward I think the club will need to make a decision on how long it persists with Vince and Lewis in the same team.

A half a dozen players could easily be dropped... we have a lot of players down on form.

Salem however should stay in the team...  he needs to find more of the footy but he made things happen with his foot skills. Hes very crafty.

The problem is in the coaches box and on field leadership, a blind man could sniff the change in tempo,  tooooooo slow to react to the obvious run on,  not up to it in my opinion.

Nothing surer than Frost coming in.

Our backline desperately needs rebalance  to allow Lever to intercept and we need insurance for Ben Brown. Maybe for Wagner.

Take your pic on who comes in for Bugg out of Hannan, Stretch or Brayshaw.

Kent needs another run in the magoos

Injury aside I don't think they will make more than 1 out/in. Bugg has to be dropped as his kicking is disgraceful. I would bring Frost in. Next in line would be Brayshaw and Kent.

We won’t drop the VC Lewis but he wasn’t great. Looked like an old man being on the ground all night.

Bugg might need a week to get back into but didn’t inspire. With Kent firing again the pressure is on which is great.

I think Frost will come in for Wagner although Hunt needs a kick up the backside!!

Except for the one or two classy things he does a game, I really don’t share the love of Salem. Hardly noticed him. Very over rated imo.

Probably out Wagner for Frost for the talls.

Thin ice = Salem, Hunt, Bugg

OUT: Salem, Wagner, Lewis,

IN: Frost, Brayshaw, Kent

This!  Hunt is playing hurt and should be rested.  Last night he uncharacteristically gave up the chase in the first quarter so if he can't chase and run from defense thru the middle his value is limited.  Brayshaw or Salem can play that role.  They don't have his speed but they do have very good foot skills to pick out targets and give that rebound out of defence.

So Brayshaw for Hunt.

And for all those calling for Lever to become the 3rd tall and to let him roam the backline well other coaches won't let it happen.  Scott showed last week how to neutralise him:  isolate him one on one and make him defend.  I didn't realise how slow he was; he couldn't keep up when chasing last night.  Anyone can play that unaccountable sweeping defender.  Lever needs to learn to defend.

Nonetheless, I would bring in Frost not to let Lever roam but to wear Brown like a glove.  I wouldn't care if he got zero possessions but his role would be to punch the ball away or bring it to ground and for goodness sake play in front.

So Frost for Harmes or Bugg or Fritsch (if sore) or at a pinch Wagner.

Changes for match-ups and having the fittest team, rather than form.

Lastly, Ziebell  is a shadow of his former self, Cunnington looked injured so their danger man and play maker is Higgins - we need Bernie to do a job on him and keep him quiet.

Harmes gives us some much needed foot speed. I would persist.

We need to do some restructuring. I love Salem in the middle, but he isn’t giving us enough. Maybe short stints in there would be better, but off half back is where his kicking is most valuable.

I would bring Brayshaw in, Salem to half back. Wagner out.

Frost needs to come in for Brown. Lever to play the floating third tall, where he belongs. Ideally Lewis goes out, but that will never happen. Tough who gets dropped. I love Hunt but he has been average lately. Maybe he goes out.

I’m not sold on Bugg either. His ball use is A grade rubbish. I would drop him for Kent.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
