Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

This guy was born to play in the midfield, sensational last few weeks, may overtake Petracca soon.

Unbelievably I agree, Petracca still flashes in and out of games whereas Gus played 4 quarters yesterday. Petracca has more upside and if he can pull everything together could become one of the premier players in the comp but right now it’s not happening.

Gus is playing where he always needed to play, in the guys getting the ball tapped down his throat. Half back/forward was never going to work.

Since he got moved into the middle at halftime of the Essendon game, we have won 14 straight quarters and 4 straight games.    His impact has been profound.   He is 4th in the comp for inside 50's per game.

vs Essendon  -  21 disposals, 4 inside 50's,   6 clearances, 8 score involvements, 311 metres gained

vs St Kilda  -  32  disposals, 8 inside 50's, 5 clearances,   9 score involvements,  659 metres gained, 1 goal

vs Gold Coast  -   24   disposals, 8 inside 50's,  4 clearances,   8  score involvements,  475 metres gained, 1 goal 3 behinds

vs Carlton  -     24  disposals,  7 inside 50's,  11 tackles,  2 clearances,   8 score involvements,  412 metres gained

Looking like pick 3 was very well spent.

He has been the catalyst of our sudden leap in inside 50's. Add in Tom Mac's return and Lever grooving into the backline, he has started the party. Fantastic return to form that I had doubted.

Had my doubts on Angus. Was flirting with the idea of ‘would you trade Brayshaw for Zac Jones’ earlier in the season. Given his last month, I certainly wouldn’t do that trade.

Couldn't agree more

A gun who plays 4 quarters is fierce and attacking

Its great to see him back to his best

As if that's the reason...

In all seriousness, he looked lost on the wings but since going into the guts he's back to his best. I was very skeptical, but he's had a fantastic month.

His tackling is a highlight and by playing in the centre he's naturally getting the ball a lot more than he used to.

He’s an inside mid- always has been, always will be.  He was held back for injury, form and education, but now that he’s been unleashed he’s looked right at home for the first time in a long time.

Possibly not THE catalyst..  definitely a reason.

He is far less 'reactionary' than many inside mids... especially ours !!

Some players are mercurial in that when they possess the ball they suddenly seem to have space where there's none. Gus has a slightly different take on that....he seems to harness 'time' . These extra moments that manifest allow him to better think the next move. He's generally very clever with possessions, seldom wasteful... that's gold, that's class.

Where some players can often be where they ought not, Brayshaw manages to hunt the ball and be where he can effect something.

It's a rare commodity...physicality with nous.

He is very important to a successful best 22.

Brayshaw’s kicking on either side is generally average, a game high 8 turnovers today supports that as fact. If you think his tackling was fine rewatch the third quarter, StKilda players were walking straight through him.

You may have been right on the day BD.

I watched him closely yesterday. A game high 11 tackles, and hit targets off both feet.

I think he has his confidence back.

An in form Brayshaw is priceless. He is fierce at the player and the ball and usually makes good decisions. He is not overly quick but is quick of mind which compensates. At this best he is a walk up starter.

In terms of the short and long term for this side Brayshaw is in the top 5 at the club in terms of importance. His last 4 games, especially his last two have demonstrated how good he can be.

Lets hope he has a blinder against the Ravens.

I don't necessarily agree with your reasoning but we are in violent agreement on the end sum - it is just a matter of who !- I am an "in form" Tyson fan - but we run Jones, Oliver, Salem, Harmes,  Viney and Brayshaw through the midfield. To me only Viney, Jones and Oliver are walk up starters. The rest have played at Casey at various stages due to form.  To me Tyson is replaced by Salem, Harmes and Brayshaw because all 3 are playing better than Tyson. (actually , and this is pure opinion - On best form Salem and Brayshaw should be certain starters and Harmes has probably been the surprise for me and has been the one to take Tyson's spot due to his good form).

I also like the mixing it up by seeing Fritch, ANB and Hogan have a midfield burst from time to time. Keep the opposition guessing.

Hes gone to another level the last two weeks

vs Western Bulldogs -     39 disposals,  8 marks,  9 inside 50's,  1 goal,  5 score involvements,  637  metres gained

Got a lot of it today, but was going at well below 50% DE at a point. Tidied it up slightly, but would be a lot more damaging if he hit more targets.

He's working up some great form though. For a guy who struggled to accumulate, he's found himself with leather poisoning the last fortnight.

Horrific disposal today. If I were him, I'd actually be a bit embarrassed at how much some people praised my game. I'm sure Goody will spend a lot of time with him midweek showing him how he could have turned those 39 possessions into much more valuable ones.

I think he likes to show how dual-sided he is, but his ego is getting in the way.

His right foot isn't always any better! In space he should use his right, but I like the idea that he goes on his left to get out of trouble and hope he keeps using it.

His dual sided ability has always been his stand out trait, especially out of congestion by hand and foot.

In a number of preseason training threads I said Gus keeps finding the ball but is sloppy with his kicking.

Would've been nice if he started in the team from round 1 but I think reading between the lines Goody put the foot down and said he had to do the extras on his body and his skills at training. It's starting to pay off and should only get better if he keeps the focus on nailing the fundamentals.

We got smashed at the clearances today so all the mids have a fair bit of work to do for next week.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
