Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Jordan Lewis 50 metre penalty - can anyone lip read?

Lucky Lewy didn't say what I did at the ump through the TV. It would have got him reported as it included the word cheat. Amongst some other adjectives.

You know what, I blame this piece of play for our loss. Gawn, Oliver, Petracca missed but that happens a dozen times a game. Using that logic you could say Menzel kicks a couple extra goal that he missed down the other end and we lose by 15 points.

This "senior" player, in a "leadership role" gave away a 50m penalty and nearly certian goal over words that came out of his mouth towards an umpire.

Words.

I know he played a good game and white line fever/heat of the moment but because of his use of the English language he handed the opposition a goal.

To me this is completely unacceptable, let alone from an on field leader. No excuse.

Ump gave a pathetically soft 50m penalty that resulted in a goal.

If it was given in the back half this thread wouldn’t exist.

Ablett is a protected species but still some of our own supporters are happier to place the negative on our players.

FMD.

The free kick was borderline at best, but Lewis was unnecessarily clumsy and forceful given that he had Jetta in close support.

The spray to the umpire was completely over the top and unacceptable by a senior player, and the 50m penalty was the right decision.

For a leader, Lewis allows his temper to get the better of him far too often.

You could argue the initial free kick was incorrect but the facts are once that whistle goes that's it. Swearing and carrying on won't change anything. It's one of the first things you are taught as a junior.

It wasn't given in the back half, I don't think it matters where abouts on the ground but if you want to argue that, it's even more critical that you don't turn a 65m kick into a 15m one. I think I recall that even on the goal line he refused to shut up.

And as for Ablett being a protected species, he was given holding the ball at least 3 times that I can remember. He is a champion of the game and arguably the best ever. Opposition coaches would have entire filing cabinets dedicated to Ablett, they would know what he is going to do before he decides himself and he still does as he pleases.

Then you could also say that our loss was Fritsch's fault. His smothered kick, by not going back over the mark properly, led to the ball being kicked to the 50:50 contest, which led to the free kick, the 50m and the goal.

Attributing the loss to one specific event is so difficult.

That being said, agree that you want your leaders to show passion - in the right way. Vince in the 3rd term in a contest was a good example - Lewis not so much.

Couldn't agree more, you can't attribute it to one event at all. But that just really stuck out for me. Also I think it's easier to except Fritsch making a mistake in his first game than Lewis is his 13th year.

I'd prefer the lip readers to channel there efforts to decoding what Goody screamed in the box after Clarry went for the right foot banana? Something about a having a [censored] left foot perhaps? Or "Why didn't i [censored] schedule wrong-foot kick training last week!"

Actually, he did. There was video on twitter last week of Oliver doing 90 deg turns and repeat kicking on his left foot to a team mate. Goodwin might remind him of this during his weekly review

I blame Melksham for the loss, he handballs over to Fritsch running into the goal square instead of missing a flying snap at goal off hands I the second quarter, we arrest their momentum, we win. Jake had a nightmare game and is in the gun for mine, reckon he's drinking his own bathwater after everyone was talking up his pre season form.

So, the f word is acceptable on Twitter and basically in the repertoire of every stand-up comedian but not on Demonland or on the football field. Good to know.

In the context of how it was said, that is, Lewis wasn't standing right in front of the umpire or intimidating him physically, I'm surprised that use of this language today is considered to be abuse.

There was no free kick and the umpire deserved the abuse.  Of course his thin skin couldn't handle it so he decided to punish us instead of being a man.

I want to thank Jordan for doing what I wanted to do at the time.

Abuse is not allowed, it is the rules. It's like saying "I wish someone punched Selwood in the face because it is what I wanted to do at the time that he tunnelled Salem".

It is pathetic leadership from Lewis, who should learn to shut up and stop costing us games. He cost us dearly through suspension last year, and he potentially cost us the game on the weekend for lashing out.

Lewis is in the team primarily for his leadership. Some leadership giving away 50m penalty because you're a hot head.

Ablett having a sook to the umpires is pathetic don't get me wrong, but the difference is, Ablett had a conversation with the umpire, he didn't take out his mouth guard and tell the umpire to F off like an idiot, giving away a crucial 50m penalty in a game lost by under a goal.

Umpires have had far worse sprays than that what Lewis dishes out.

The poor call of a free kick was the root cause so can we just keep blaming the umpire please.

Ok, I don't know why I'm getting sucked into reliving this but I rewound the betamax and watched it a couple more times (16:30 to go in the 2nd Qtr).

I'm in Violent agreement with everyone on this post.

1, Lewy should have shut his mouth. He even pi$$ed the ump off on the goal line because he wouldn't step back on it.
Leaders just suck it up.

2. It was a soft free and a softer 50. I reckon he just said "he tripped over his own feet" which triggered the 50.

That 50 was followed by another soft 50m within 2 minutes of game time when they penalised us for infringing within the protected zone when Geelong had the ball on their half forward flank.

We were 10 points up and looking good before the umps started squaring things up and then we went to pieces.........

We are still lacking the mental discipline to suck it up and lock things down when things go against us.

BTW, I watched the end again and the Geelong players were sticking it to Gawny at the end. He was ropable.
think he's going to have a cracking season and can't wait for the re-match when we spank them with Dangerfield included.

Interesting to hear Jordie quizzed about his transgression on AFL360 this evening.  He mentioned that he let the emotions of the moment get the better of him (which he shouldn't have done, especially as a leader), and that several team mates made that point to him out on the ground.  His lack of discipline was also raised at a post match discussions within the Leadership Group.

I liked the bit about players acting happy after losses, he said he didn’t like it and a few players were like that last year which he pulled them up on, he said you need to hurt after a loss and hate losing

No point acting it if you don't.

Everyone is different.

When I played footy there were guys who looked like they hated losing but did F A on the ground when it really counted.

All you can really ask for is 100% during the game...the faux hurt after the game is worth "jack"

He did this stuff with the Hawks.  It's nothing new, other than the fact that he had a gun side around him where doing that stuff didn't matter as much.

It wasn't great, but one decision doesn't make a game.

It completely swung the momentum as we had them on toast at the time. And you just knew it would swing the momentum too.

We talk about maturity and game sense and he demonstrated a complete lack of either.

What Lewis was saying is that 'after a loss, you have to hurt, you have to hate losing' or words to that effect.  He said it in the context of while players have different ways of dealing with a loss there were a few times last year when there was 'too much joviality on the bus' after a loss and he wasn't too happy seeing that [joviality].   He wasn't talking about 'faux' hurt he meant real deep down hurt.

On this Lewis knows what he is talking about.  He knows what a winning culture looks like.  The 'not hurting' makes me wonder if we have been so poor for so long, last year players were satisfied with close losses or playing good footy for three quarters.

Listening to Lewis I'm not sure the burning will to win was there.  Sure everyone wants to win and we can't win every game but will our team do what it takes to try for a win each and every week?  If they do it will go a long way to eliminating the fade outs for a quarter in games.  Time will tell.

I think this captures pretty well what Lewis was saying.  Just reading a bit  between the lines (or maybe just being hopeful) I think the 'hurt' that the players felt at the end of last season might drive them to give that extra 0.5% when we are down during a game, and make them less 'accepting' of losses when they occur.  Fingers crossed.

Said it at the time, it was a complete BS call. Its becoming a non contact sport. There was nothing in it.

That being said, you bite your lip and shut your mouth. Voice your opinion at the break or after the game, not live when it can cost us directly.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
