Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

What is PRP?

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) injections are natural injections consisting of components of your own blood that has been enriched with platelets. A rapidly growing treatment PRP utilises the body’s natural inflammatory process to assist the growth and repair of soft tissues such as: tendons, ligaments, fascia, skin and muscle.  Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is the fluid part of the blood which contains all of the 'band-aid' cells (the Platelets), and contains several different growth factors and other proteins that stimulate healing and attract the critical assistance of stem cells.

Some tissues in the body have a poor blood supply or respond poorly to excessive load and ultimately fail to heal naturally. PRP therapy utilises the healing properties in blood to allow a healing reaction to occur in a tissue that is not healing on its own. Our blood has small granules called “platelets” and these contain special growth factors that when released, allowing stem cells in the particular tissue to switch on and then cause new tissue to be synthesized and heal an injured or degenerated area.

The goal of PRP therapy is to resolve pain and increase mobility through healing. It is completely natural and can prove to have long lasting results.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) has been used overseas for many years, however it is fairly new to Australia and even more so to the general public. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment in Melbourne & Australia was first introduced as a treatment for elite athletes but is now available to assist anyone

The technique

PRP involves taking your own blood, which is taken from your arm just like a normal blood test, the blood is then spun in a centrifuge which is a machine designed to separate the blood into two components. The bottom layer contains most of the red blood cells, while the top layer is mostly plasma and platelets. The top layer, the platelet rich plasma, is then activated and injected into the affected area immediately after the blood has been taken. Injections can be performed with or without guided ultrasound.

What can PRP treat?

PRP therapy can be used for several types of injuries and ailments, including:

· Knee arthritis

· Arthritis, particularly osteoarthritis

· Joint pain & joint damage

· Knee pain, injuries

· Hip pain, injuries & arthritis

· Muscle tears

· Degenerative conditions

· Bursitis

· Ligament, tendon and fascia injuries

· Meniscus and cartilage tears

· Nerve injury

· Tendonitis

· Tennis elbow & golfers elbow

· Foot & ankle pain and injuries

· Carpal tunnel syndrome

· Plantar fasciitis

· Rotator cuff injuries

· Sports or work injuries

When compared to cortisone injections, PRP shows better results over a longer period of time. While the effects of cortisone are rapid, they are often followed by a decline in condition and can actually cause further tissue damage. PRP, however, shows slower but greater long term improvements, less injury recurrence and no side-effects.

Could we perhaps consult with Shane Carter? He was able to help James Hird overcome major foot issues and might have some different methods to what our medicos are faniliar with.

Have had these done, and they did jack sh*t. They hurt like hell too.

How about we leave the experts to trying to resolve these issues. McDonald has been relatively injury free for a long time, and I am sure his toe issue will be managed and resolved sooner rather than later.

Viney clearly has some sort of mechanical foot issue that needs solving. If it takes a year then so be it, he is at the very start of his career and is too important to risk.

I just heard that Goodwin has stated that both players had some CORTISONE INJECTIONS during the week. Cortisone???

Seriously??

Cortisone is nothing more than a Band-aid, it masks the pain and does NOTHING to actually rehab the problem.

Current thinking includes PRP injections ( White Blood cells) harvested from your own blood and autologous blood injections guided by Ultrasound

Cortisone does nothing but mask pain, other problem is once you have a couple into same joint it actually can weaken the joint further.

Anyone else on  this site in the know will bear this out.

Cortisone??

Now I am worried!

Hang on before you blow a fuse. Cortisone is meant to reduce inflammation not directly reduce pain.   (Personally I found it didn't work, but I am a sample of 1)

Agreed, but this will shorten TMc's season; which in itself, is great for the latter part of the year, IMV.

Rnd-12 - 2017,  we were 6 wins - 24Pts, entering the bye.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_AFL_season#Ladder_progression

I feel sure we should surpass that.

Great points, yet I am worried about the loss of TMac in the backline...he was getting very good down there. Oh, for a Stephen Icke!

Just wondering what your credentials are?

You seem to be very learned on medical matters.

A Phys ed Background and have had Cortisone for injuries and it does give some relief  BUT I have found through experience that PRP /Autologous Blood injections are much more long lasting, and use the bodies natural products ( Blood)  to assist healing.I have had this procedure in  both knees, achilies and a type of plantar fascia injury. IMO and what do I know?? I just have a subjective view that PRP and other treatments seem to be more cutting edge than Cortisone.

Hard not to be really disappointed about this. When are we going to get our best 22 on the park?

Hopefully, we can get them all there by the midway mark.

We really missed Viney's leadership last year.

I hope Tom's injury hasn't occurred due to mismanagement. I'll trust that it hasn't.

Do not believe the media coverage when it comes to sport injuries/recovery’s

It is all spin.

Today the Club had to tell the Truth.

This has been brewing all summer, regardless of what the players “tell” Satyr at training, he will obviously believe anything he is told.

I have had hip, leg and foot prroblems all my life and knew this wasn’t a quick recovery. Load bearing injuries are just that. As soon as you run again, there is massive stress.

Whoever gave Viney the ok to play after 19 days of surgery had better find a new job, because they are a fool.

For months this club played Trengove week after week with a Foot Injury until he was disabled, and we didn’t learn...

Goodwin’s ass is right on the line now, he is going to have to coach out of his skin this year to cover this mess

i hope he gets through it....

So true, and he put the wheels in motion for a loyal, classy, talented, resilient, durable and intelligent footballer coming into his prime, to leave.  Right now its all good because we say we have depth to cover losses.  I say bull$%!^.  I say we have had 12 months of poor leadership and poor decision making at the top.  This seasons struggle will confirm this.

Yes, because all injuries/pathologies follow exactly the same course, and all bodies respond to treatment in exactly the same way and because the club always knew exactly when Jack would be back but are keeping it from us.

Is anyone else concerned that misleading medical reports might create opportunities for corruption with those in the know being able to provide accurate information to bookies or gamblers to give them an advantage while the rest of us have to accept what the club tells us?  Like most forms of gambling (including the stock market), winning often relies on accessing inside info and surely this is exactly what this is.  I am surprised that the AFL hasn’t taken action.  I am not sure why MFC medical  advices are so often proved optimistic (?) but one of the best ways to disappoint supporters is to raise expectations and then fail to deliver.  I really don’t understand why the more realistic updates are not released in a more timely fashion.

Er because you are working with a highly tuned human body

Viney was looking a million dollars in rehab and both I and the Club said so, then the toe issue happened, he could probably rush back, that worked last time

As for Tommy Mc he had turf toe, again could have rushed back, yeah let's [censored] up a player who is just reaching his peak

Viney on the MFC podcast said he trained fully with Casey team and he felt "good sore" in the body, like he trained hard and well. He said he is 2 weeks away.. so probs 3-4 away.

Nah, touch wood and he doesn't get bitten by a dog, spoke to both him and Tommy Mc week or so ago, Jack has been 2 weeks behind Tommy Mc in rehab

This Club does my head in. Not sure if it is bad luck or incompetence. Hard to fathom that a player is named 1 day and then out for 6 weeks the next. Wonder what Smiling Dave Misson has to say.

not quite that bad Chook

this is an old thread and I believe Tom is still right to go this weekend and Jack V in a couple of weeks.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
