Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I think Gawny is WAYYYYY too important to our plans to have him filling a hole in front of a leading Hawkins. (if thats what you meant?) He would snap like a twig at his current weight if Hawko crashed into his back.  Pedo especially has lost some serious beef. We will need tag teaming++ if Geelong get on a clearance run as we dont have to size down back to stop them if delivery is clean. My hope is that we will be a bit agile for them and that Lever/Hibbos intercepts do the job for us.

Actually i think my post just agreed with you after all...................

I've just seen the Cats team.

No Danger.  So that spells danger for us.  We better turn up to play.

We're at our best when we feel our  backs are to the wall.

You might be right, Re Gawn in the hole.

I think Maynard will tag Selwood but Wagner ahead of Tyson is unbelievable.

The defence is all about run and carry. That's how we're going to play. We want runners to help our 18 man press.

Wagner and Tyson are not competing for the same spot, but we have 13 players that can and have run through the middle before (Jones, Vince, Lewis, Salem, Petracca, Harmes, Hogan, Garlett, Oliver, Neal-Bullen, Melksham, Hannan and Maynard).

This is a decision more about our defence than our midfield. We have enough who can roll through the midfield.

Wagner gives us another back, which is good for team balance as it could free up Jones or Hunt to move onto wing, Salem into middle, etc...

Maybe Maynards in to do some bodywork on the tag the Cats will try to put on Oliver or Petracca..?

This is pretty much it, Paul.

Surely one of them will come in...   we are lacking midfield depth looking at that team.

No, we're not.

Christ I hate watching Wagner play, waiting for the inevitable turnover because of zero situational awareness.

Mystified.

Disagree. I reckon, despite the odd turn over, he has shown some good poise and with more experience, will eliminate the turn overs and increase the poise.

Maynard's last game was a final for Casey. Justin Plapp's report:

Corey Maynard: Corey had 35 disposals, including 27 contested possessions, five marks, 18 clearances, nine inside 50s and five tackles. I can simply say that Corey’s game on the weekend was probably one of the best performances I’ve ever seen at VFL level – in any game. The way he willed himself to generate something from his team – and through critical contests – was outstanding. He also showed his ability to win the contested ball and get the ball going forward for us, highlighted by his clearance work. He had huge numbers – and he was huge for us. He’s a great young leader that’s finding his way. He dug in and did everything he could for his team. I thought he was best-on-ground by a mile.

If anyone is wondering why Maynard has been selected I think hardness is one of his key attributes.

Potential and earns  his spot if we don't reward people that put in and we just reward "names" we will never improve -! if Tyson and Brayshaw should be in they will be if and only if they earn their spot and someone in the side fails to perform - Maynard was unlucky to be dropped after his first game - good luck to him and Wagner looks as fit and confident as anyone - Good luck to him !

Go Dee's !!

To be clear I rate Brayshaw in our best 22 but I think we are passed the point where one great quarter in 8 gets you a round 1 spot. I think if fit he would have probably played ahead of Maynard and possibly Hannan but am ok that if he's not 100% and based on inconsistency of form over the JLT that we have the depth to make these choices.

Dont think it will take long to see him in the red and blue.

Too many half backs in the team this week. Hunt, Lewis, Jones, Salem and too many mids. Brayshaw can really only play half back or midfield. He's shown reasonably consistently that he struggles forward of centre, so I reckon it's a horses for courses deal here. Same with Tyson.

Good debate. I am not suggesting neither OMac or Wagner is a superstar and I am not saying Frost does not have great attributes and wont contribute during the season. What I am saying is our overall defence and general game plan is best served by OMac and Wagner. My view is Wagner is no where near the dud based on exposed form that people make out and Frost is nowhere near the power forward taming brute with great rebound ability that others make him out to be. I suspect back end of year if we are at decent strength neither is in our starting 22 but we certainly look more balanced over the JLT with Wagner/Omac than on Frosts exposed limited form.

Fair call big red fire.

The beauty of a forum is to permit diversity of opinion to flourish (and in my case unspent emotion to be released).

I don't mind admitting I believe this game may be more challenging than many think.

I am thankful I don't pick the team, but by the same token, I would have picked differently.

Tomorrow all we'll know more about where this young side is at.

Saty, after JLT 1 when I said Brayshaw would not be in our round 1 team based on merit, you said I was wrong and said Goodwin loved his game etc.

What do you believe the reason is for his exclusion. Form or wisdom teeth?

He looked slightly off at training, so the latter, I was one who wasn't surprised on his omission, had a great summer, poor dental timing

They are clearly our weakest two players (if you ignore Fristch and Maynard who have played one game between them). The fact they play in the same 'line' concerns me no end but how they play will go a fair way to determining whether we win the match.

A "depth player" who played all the JLT and is named when we have 40 fit players. I think he is higher in those considered for selection than a lot on here understand. The best teams have role players who on their own you would not rate highly but are rated a lot higher due to their impact to the overall team structure. I think Wagner is clearly one of these but most focus on his alleged erratic execution and inability to defend well which seems to be limited in example over the preseason.

I enjoy those that use the lost at selection crutch if we lose but will be silent if we win. Being he played all preseason when we were undefeated speaks more to if it ain't broke don't fix it.

To be clear I would not have personally named him in my best 22 but I can read the bigger picture as to why.

Maynard and Wagner are clearly depth players, I'm not sure what you're trying to argue.

How about stopping a player capable of kicking many goals on a younger lighter opponent?

For posters to assume we can just dictate the game, at our pleasure with forward "set ups" and Geelong to just watch without reaction, is inane.

Don't think for a minute the Cats have not sized up their strengths and weaknesses AND ours. Strangely, they may think they can outmuscle us in their forward line and will be trying to exploit that.

There are 2 teams on the ground, not one.

I would assume Oscar has put on size and his capable of taking Hawkins.  I heard Gawny in an interview say that he can’t wait to see Oscar have a go at Hawkins, he has had a massive pre-season.

Dont quote the exact wording but it was along those lines.

TBH, after our pathetic last round in 2017 and the Camp crap in the media, we should be extremely ruthless in our attack on the ball.

That would bode well for a good start and result.

A ruthless attack on the footy is a minimum requirement for senior footy. The players are paid to perform for 3 hours a week if they can't bring the required effort for that time then they shouldn't be playing.

The only way you can win in this comp is to have a better attack on the footy than your opponent.

And don't forget you also admitted to holding back supposed inside info on Jack Vineys injury, instead telling the board that he was 'on track for Round 1'  multiple times.

You purposely fed false information into the training threads.  I would ban you to be honest.

My dreams of smoke that one day the demons would be so strong that our depth would cause many supporters heartache and mistrust of the selectors. Come on fill up that glass or toke that number because Tyson Frost Brayshaw Bugg Weed et al can’t get a game even with Viney and Tmac out and no kids are being sacrificed. Year of the Dee and ladder leaders.

I define a depth player as a mature player you don't intend on playing unless significant injuries hit across the board or to a specific area. As has been mentioned by the club we had 40 players to choose from this week. They are not clearly depth players in my definition.

I really hope not jnrmac!

I think the inclusion of players who are not quite right means we will very much rely on our best players to do more than they should be asked to. Down back Nev, Hibbo and Lever will need to carry extra pressure with Hunt relying on his speed to create some space.

If we don't win the centre clearances, we will see what Wags and O Mac have got, or not.

I want to be open minded. That means we must win the clearances and stop the Cats from getting anywhere near our defence. But the Cats know that already.

Tyson will be missed. Not for his below average disposal, but because he can extract the ball in close. Selwood and Ablett now need not worry about that.

Tomahawk will feeling pretty good right now.

Stats are one indicator, but watching the player gives you a clearer indication. Jetta rock solid usually picks right option. Wagner turnover are usually really bad and he often seems to pick wrong option. Ocassionally he just goes and gets it right.

But these two are chalk & cheese!

I am totally on side there D4.  Wagner is still a fair way off Nev regardless of the stats but in isolation the stats also tell a story along those lines.  Even if the 'stats' story is a fair way from the actual game we watch

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
