Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Wayne Carey: Dees Not a United Team

Fair call. Although I'm pretty sure I made it clear that I don't. Still this site will always present stories and issues about the Dees in the media and other places for discussion by Dees fans. No one is forcing anyone to open or read a topic.

There does appear to be a myriad of "knowledgeable" Footy Persons wanting us to turn the corner this season, and i'm thinking that i will take this, as with the others, with good faith, because it looks as though there is just too many of them now to bear us evil intent.

I will now go to the odds on offer............

The team is united we have had a good pre season, you can tell the way we played, we have won all our games, and well to, people say it is only pre season, but you will find teams that have looked bad in pre season will have bad years, it's only pre season but it is a good indication.

Well this season we can’t use some of the tired old excuses for poor performances like in the past. We can’t blame youth or inexperience and at this stage we can’t blame injuries though Viney is still doubtful. We have been knocking on the door of the eight for the past two seasons and would have been there except for those two inexplicable final two rounds in both seasons. Our list looks like it’s full of talent. And of course Jack Watts is gone.

That leave issues of poor culture, a consequence of drinking tainted bath water to point the finger at.

As for the game against Geelong,  it will be a tough one and all permutations are possible. To me what I will be looking for is how the players walk off the field after the game. If we win I would like to see sober moderate celebration, if we lose I expect the players to look genuinely gutted and filthy and ready to punch holes in walls. No pre ejaculated GF celebrations or tired just another long day at the office looking forward to scoring at the nightclub look.

As for Carey he was good enough to break all the rules and get away with it. None of our boys are yet. If our boys have got what it takes they will turn the negativity into a huge positive. I don’t see it any other way.

When this season starts and continues week by week to its ultimate end - where the Demons are in the top one quarter of the premiership ladder - prior to the finals, of course, we will have to count all of the media's naysayers who got it so terribly wrong at this pre-season time of the year.

Carey, his mate, Robbo, and many others will be singing from a different song sheet by that time and still expecting the general public to recognise their 'insight' and 'sophisticated declarations' ... and their inherent right to sit on the bandwagon as far as the Demons are concerned.

Here's to the modern version of the 2003 Sydney Swans apology video, the finest thing Channel 10 ever did.

Is that something you know, or are you speculating?

I think Carey was very supportive of Hogan when there was some Hogan crisis or Hogan sought Carey out for a chat at some stage. I also seem to recall a few demonlanders hoping not too much of Carey rubbed off on Hogan. Or I may be just remembering it totally wrong. Someone please tell me what that was about cos it'll drive me crazy trying to recall it. It could have been when Hogan had his back issue.

You can't make sweeping statements like "they are not united therefore they will lose" if you have not done the research, spoken to people involved, gone to training sessions, watched the preseason games.

You must be young?

Wayne Carey is the second best footballer* I've ever seen. But I've never been impressed by his commentary. He seems not to understand human behaviour (what motivates players, for example) and gives the impression that because he was capable of extraordinary on-field performances all other footballers should be able to do the same. Quite simply, they can't and he doesn't get it. In fact, the more I think about his media commentary the more I realise that the world has moved on significantly since he retired to the extent that he no longer contributes in commentary terms anything that I find valuable. I'm actually amazed that he gets any media work at all.

Just because someone is paid to give an opinion in a ridiculously oversaturated market doesn't make his or her opinion any more pertinent.

And just because someone gives an opinion we don't like, doesn't mean we all need to be so childish and go on some shoot the messenger rant.

When the dogs did this camp 13 years ago they did it once, players almost left mid camp, the club decided it had no real value because they never did it again.

Bob Murphy went into some detail about this on SEN the other morning.  You could tell by the tone in his voice that it was a pretty ordinary experience.

I don't know about others, but in our workplace we encourage employees to air their concerns rather than harbour them.

It doesn’t matter who made the comment. The essence of it is correct. A lack of unity led to the cancellation of the boot camp. My information is that there were very heated words and an attempt at physicality, between an older and a younger member of our “leadership group”. That has persisted and a division still exists. This has created three groups, one pro the older, one pro the younger and the fence sitters.

Not united? Yep.

Big Call on the eve of the season PP

Can you elaborate any further? This whole episode has bothered me all season as an outside Member. I don’t know the player dynamics, but this club needs unity right now...

I don’t even like an SAS Camp, but if the Coach thinks it will improve the club, after last years choke, then you dam well put your head down and do it.

Can Goodwin count on those 14 who went behind his back?

I can also understand the players point (to a degree) if they had to coninue injured in a camp last year without medical attention....

Among the media ...

A few think we're going to win the premiership
Some think we'll finish top 4
Quite a few think we'll make the 8
A few think we'll miss the 8
Some say all the pieces are in place
Some say we need some outside pace
Some say we've got the best young list
Some say we're not ready yet
One says we haven't got enough 100-game players
One says we're not united

It just tells me most have got no idea.

And that the season hasn't started yet.

Sir WYL, from reading various articles it is not too hard to work out the 'older' and the 'younger' members of our leadership group who may have been at loggerheads over cancelling the camp.    Certainly, the words 'frank' and 'robust' discussions have been used extensively by several club reps.

So, connect the dots.

Was their disunity?  Is the disunity still there as Carey claims?  Who knows.

Lets hope we have learnt our lesson and everyone can move on.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
