I’m willing to take Viney’s word for it at this stage.  

Following his rehab for the stress fracture he’s had some secondary injuries/niggles as a result of his change in running style.  I’ll take an ankle injury, followed by a toe injury any day over a stress fracture in the foot.

I’m confused as to why this thread was started. Does someone have solid information?

When I was at training on Monday morning, I noticed a medico/doctor inspecting Viney’s foot closely whilst he was sitting on the ground. As soon as that concluded, he took no further part in the rehab group training and headed back to the AAMI park complex. Before the foot inspection, he was doing light work in the rehab group.

That was the only concerning thing I witnessed. I wouldn’t jump the gun just yet in fearing the worst, although I’m aware of how unclear the club when it comes to updating it’s supporter base re: injuries.

We've been led to believe the issue is he is just getting his fitness back but his foot is fine.

The potential problem is he is still getting pain and discomfort in his foot, meaning it hasn't fully healed.

Not worried about fitness, worried about foot not fully recovered.

Clearly something is not right with his foot. 

I have no inside info,  but I'd be very surprised if we see him for several weeks yet, maybe a month. 

He is too valuable to risk this early in a year when we will need him in September. The club will have learnt from bringing him back too soon last year.

What I think has transpired is this ... This all harks back to the decision someone made to get back ASAP Last Year.

Essentially the foot wasn't right and as result further strain was placed on foot resulting in more damage.

I think he is in allsorts and the club will be trying the play the whole thing down.

If this becomes another 3-4 week injury then I reckon his season will be in Jeopardy.

Issue with feet and lower leg injuries it stuffs your whole body alignment up.  You start to get over the injury than another spot flares up as that spot has taken a lot of the weight compensation due to the injury.  Ankles, Calf, Hammy plus other foot bones and tendons.  He will have sore spots in different spots that will worry him for most of this season.

It's not a diagnostic problem but a healing problem that is compounded by the nature of sport.  As anyone who has had plantar fasciitis can testify, it is impossible to know when things will come right. One day it can seem fine and the next day come up sore. And Jacks injury is much worse. Every time you try and increase the quantity and quality of running you run a risk of aggravating the injury.  You do not try and increase the workload unless you have been able to cope with a low workload, pain free for a considerable period of time.  If there is pain or discomfort, it is crazy to try and continue running.  Personally, I agree with others that think he should not be considered until mid to late season or perhaps not at all this season. Make no mistake, this is a serious injury that if not managed conservatively could jeopardise Jacks career. Extreme patience is required to ensure that Jack gets back on the field and can continue his career without further interruption.

If we're to believe Viney, his plantar fascia is fine, as is his third metatarsal.  

The issue is seemingly other occasional sore spots in his foot due to changed motions caused by the first two injuries.

If he has continuous pain free periods he'll get closer to playing, but if other areas of his foot are feeling pain he'll have to desist conventional park training.

None of us here are any the wiser.  But calls for him to miss half the season, or more, from supporters who have no relevant information regarding his injury seem senseless to me.

In regard to last para, you are probably right as no-one really knows, so opinion only.

Its a reflection of supporters concern.  A view that takes into account the mistake last season when he played prematurely, together with the 6 months recovery over summer, and continuing doubts about the timing of his comeback.  And the importance to the team in ensuring that he is cherry ripe when he returns.

It is getting tiresome to read from non medical people, who didn't examine his injury, that he came back too soon, especially when we hear from him and club medical staff that the current problems are not the ones that he allegedly came back too soon from.
