Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Until we start putting runs on the board, arses on seats and eyes on the TV we can't expect any free rides.

Success begets success.

I don’t believe that any longer, any day of the week they would put the bummers on ahead of us.

If we had the similar number of members might be a different story.

Sorry. But can't stand this argument.

Mainly because not giving clubs reasonable access to fta ensures the afl will always remain locked into their stupid, but as it stands neccessary, equalization strategy.

But even if you don't agree with this argument we were one of the most exciting teams to watch in the afl last season and this year will be even more watchable with our manic (yet attractive) game style, potential to score quickly and our bevy of genuine young, marketable guns.

Our games will rate well. Certainly way better than the blues or pies did in the last two years with all their fta games.

Which touches on anorher thing that drives me crazy. The logic of giving clubs with big memberships and supporter numbers  better fta access is ridiculous,. One because it is really only relevant in Victoria and two, and even more importantly, in the scheme of things the extra 150k fans clubs like the pies or blues might have than say the dogs or deed is not going to create much more ratings for say  a friday night game might which might attract 1.5 million viewers. And if like so many pies and blues game their footy is crap their extra fans won't stop hundred of thousands of neutrals switching channels and ratings diving.

Yeah I know. I'm hoping that if I say it enough the AFL will listen. It comes down to ratings in the end and unfortunately we won't be winning that battle anytime soon. If we had had any sustained success in the past 50 years maybe things would be different.

Carlton last won a flag in 1995, Essendon in 2000.

They aren't powerhouses anymore. And one is a drug cheating collection of reprobates

They have both been Powerhouses in the TV ? era

We haven’t, and a cut throat place like 7 has no faith in us at all

We have to earn it

And speaking of the fix that is the AFL, we have played Essendon ONCE as the home side since 2005. Huge revenue opportunity that we miss out on.

We have played Carlton and Geelong 5 times since 2005 as the HOME team. Massive revenue foregone.

Until we start complaining bitterly and relentlessly about the inequities of the draw and the TV coverage we will remain as a 'poorer' club.

That's why this deal is so fantastic. And when we are a powerhouse, lets not forget how we were treated.

Out of curiosity ... are we always destined to go up against the Australian GP

Last year it was against the qualifying session and this year it is the race itself.

Does anyone in Australia watch the GP?

Not withstanding the general AFL fixtureing  in all fairness to channel 7 we are on FTA 12 times out of the first 22 programmed games.

That to me is better than " not half bad " considering our ladder position !

Source - AFL official fixture 2018 rrp $9.95

Channel 7 is taking us Dees supporters for granted.

Its time to instill a ban on watching 7 footy. When Melbourne isn't given a fair go at free to air.

I call on all red blooded Dees, to NOT watch the bummers on key night time slots.

Why should WE ADD to the bummer viewing profile, whilst we get Sunday evening games?

Think and act. Don't watch bummers, & pies in prime time.  We just boost them up.

I've rarely watched them (and Blues) for the last few years anyway as their matches are boring.

The strange part of this decision for mine is the start time. By choosing to show the later starting game, 7 will automatically reduce the number of viewers available. While I prefer the later start, most families with children don't. It will probably only affect the number of neutral supporters who might watch, but I would have thought that is still significant.

Presumably the decision-makers believe Essendon versus the most boring team to watch starting later is better than the flaky Demons versus the unpredictable Lions starting at a better time.

See there are two Saturday night games scheduled for 31 March.

There is Lions v MFC starting at 7:25pm Melbourne time; and

Freo v Bombers starting at 8:10pm Melbourne time

Yes Channel 7 will be showing the Bombers game

Dudded.

Watch the what? That was 10 yrs ago, wasn't it? Do they still have it on the calendar? I thought that it was dead in the water and so terribly boring...nowhere near as enduring as the footy - Melbourne footy, that is.

I watch no-one but the DEMONS. If the Dees are not on the TV telecast, it is not worth watching. That has been my petty little protest for all these years ... it infiltrated my Foxtel telecasts, too, and radio broadcasts ... and I only attend Demons' games. One-eyed, inflexible and stubborn. HOOtfCares? The idea of DV8 to enact a ban on telecasts is a very good one.

Is that attendees or viewing audience Aust wide?

Viewing audience. Around 90000 on actual race day with maybe 324000 over the weekend.

Its stupid that we have to deal with the this for 2 years running. The GP is an expensive event and there would no doubt be some cross-over that means people would choose one or the other. But for us to have a clash two years in succession is appalling scheduling as usual bythe AFL.

It’s actually the high end of technology, right on the edge.

But my old man raced Albert Park in the 1950’s, so it is in my blood

Daniel Ricciardo is a great sportsman flying the Australian Flag ?? on an International Stage

So often the Demons first game is on at the same time.

Sick of it

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
