Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Rain next Sunday

Recommended Posts

Despite months of dry weather up to now, the BOM has predicted rain for next Sunday.

This is a financial body blow to the MFC , because the crowd will be reduced by up to 20%,just because of the prediction.

I hope the prediction will change as the week goes on, but if ,on Saturday, they say it'll rain on the day of the match, it will have a definite effect.

I have noticed in recent years, MFC have often been unlucky with the weather predictions when we have our ( rare) big attendance home games, especially Queens Birthday.

Also I think slippery conditions favour the more experienced sides, i.e. Geelong.  But if the BOM keeps up its usual form,,they'll predict rain, but the game will be played in sunshine.

Yes, Watts used to make it rain, too.

Dangit. I forgot about him.

Back on topic. This is a concern from a financial point of view in terms of gate receipts and even more importantly from a membership selling perspective. Fair weather supporters won't like lining up in the rain. Pun intended.

According to the BOM website there’s 50% chance of showers, chiefly during the morning.

You have to be able to beat any team, any where in any conditions if you want to win a Premiership. Both teams are playing in the same conditions and you don't get to choose the weather on Grand Final day.

Also Jimmy Toumpas.

Footy is a winter sport and our home ground is MCG, Melbourne.

If rain deters fans from showing up, and players from doing the same, then I don't even know what the point of life is anymore.

Besides, who listens to the BOM a whole week in advance? They get it wrong even on the day. My phone app sometimes says it's currently raining when it isn't.

This happens all the time!!

there will be a big crowd at the ‘G next sunday

Our biggest problem will be the Australian Grand Prix down the road, not the weather.

Thanks Gill

I agree the BOM is very unreliable, but my point is that the mere fact that they predict rain deters many supporters.(not you and me!)

I agree that it's regrettable that fair weather supporters exist, but it's a fact.

Surely nobody looks at the BOM a week out and goes "might rain next Sunday, guess we are not going to the footy". People will surely make a decision on the day, especially as the game is a later start.

I shall be there rain, hail, snow storm, or bush fire. GO DEES!

The BOM will say there's a chance of a shower even if that chance is the same as the chances of Mark Neeld getting his old job back.  Wouldn't pay any attention to it this early in the week.

So I guess you have to be able to attract a crowd in any conditions....rain, hail or snow.

I think the crowd would be affected by bad weather even on GF day. At least 20% of supporters are "fair weather supporters", especially MCC Members, which is a cross we have to bear.

That's not really what I was getting at. I agreed that the rain will indeed have an effect on crowd number and in turn impacting on our revenue from gates receipts. Rain will also impact our signing up of new members on the day because of 1) less people being at the game and 2) people who are at the game might be less likely to line up in the rain.

I don't expect that we be able to attract a crowd in any conditions as I don't believe that is achievable for any club. I do however expect that the team be competitive in the rain and that's what I meant by being able to beat anyone, anytime, anywhere in any conditions.

I'd be concerned for the  people that would be cancelling their plans of going to the footy based on a predicted rain fall of 0-2 mm (or the equivalent of a 10 minute rain shower)

To me the bright side out of this is we don't need TMc as much.

He is more likely top worsen the toe issue in the wet contested slog, and the opposition will look for every opportunity to get at it.

We can play a smaller forwardline with bulk, including Pedo in.

Give TMc the extra week to get right.

These conditions would have been just right for Viney but he's not ready.

IMO  we need bulky forwards, and our speedsters. Those that are opportunists of the spilt mark.

I wonder how JKH would go in these conditions?

I think the Wet, brings their guns back to us, a bit.  I can see Buggster in on one of their mids.

Forget the Snow, that is a dead loss if that happens. They'll all head north for the winter. ^_^

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim
