Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Like many others here, I think Mick is right. I don’t see this as a bad thing either, this is the time of the year that these articles need to land. We need to remember that we haven’t done anything yet and that nothing short of hard work and honest footy will get us where we need to go.

Spot on Layzie. And he's (malthouse), countering that bloody Cornes, who is running that bath, for us all to lap up in.

We're getting talked about a lot aren't we?

Beats the hell out of being irrelevant & uncompetitive.  We're a long way from being hated but that would be good too.  Great in fact.

Malthouse is 100%. Whether it's Petracca DJ'ing Skwosh parties and making coffees at spring carnival marquees, Harmes running around asking the Saints what they were doing in September, or Hogan looking questionable at dance festivals, you won't find a team as happy with their own work as Melbourne.

It is why Goodwin talks ad nauseum about a humble and hard working playing group, and why they had to get rid of Watts.

Could have made the finals in '16, should have made the finals in '17. Time for a lot of players to stop drinking their own bath water.

We are mentally weak as a team. Strong leadership led teams do not lose the games we do.

We have gotten ahead of ourselves for years, I can’t remember the last time I went to a game when we were strong favourites and I felt comfortable.

He's spot on.

We carry on like we won the flag after every win and even in games when we're winning we get ahead of ourselves which is why we let the opposition back in because we take the foot off the pedal.

What happens to Skwosh now? Will Jack be launching a DJ tent in the Port Adelaide social club? Oh to be a fly on the wall for that one.

I think that in the early days of Roosy's rebuild, it was important for the boys to enjoy wins. They had been kicked for long enough and needed to regain confidence. However the goal posts have well and truly moved and so should the players' expectations.

Some of the reactions have died down a bit. I remember during 2014 through to certain parts of 2016 that celebrations after wins were ridiculous. It started to settle down after the start of last year (I think Jordie's influence might have helped here). However, I still think though there is substance to what you are saying.

If we roll the Cats round one this year but carry on like pillocks and sing the club song as though we haven't sung it in 5 years, then we will know little has changed.

Nothing surer.

Funnily enough, I see Brisbane in Round 2 as the bigger game. On our day, I know we can beat Geelong and we may or may not win Round 1, but the Brisbane game is the exact sort of game we would drop in the past.

I did a thread a couple of years back with stats of games where we went in favourites and the numbers were undeniable.

We all remember Tommy Mac's 'I'm looking forward to getting consecutive wins on the board' howler prior to round 2 2016 after we pulled a rabbit out of the hat vs. GWS.

Sadly, I'm not sure these blokes ever learn...

It’s a good thing Round 2 is an away weekend

it has to be treated as a tough assignment.

The Bears have some decent players, it should take a 4 Quarter effort to beat them.

If we have anymore full Quarter fade outs from now on, then the club is going nowhere.

The talk is over

It's a danger game for sure.

We have played poorly against a horrible Brisbane side for the past few seasons on our home deck. Their improvement and the fact it's at the GABBA represents a tough game.

Good. Hopefully it instills a 4 Quarter effort.

This club needs hard games early, if this talented group is going to toughen up.

That is the one element lacking

I was in Bendigo for that game against Essendon and watched it at the Shamrock Hotel. I was in Bendigo last year when we lost to Freo. I watched it at the Shamrock Hotel. I will be in Bendigo during round 2 and will watch the game at the Shamrock Hotel. Two potentially great weekends ruined. Does lightning strike thrice? I am nervous already and will be even more nervous if we beat Geelong in round 1.

Its as if supporters are waiting to win one, & then win the next one, and when that occurs, 'It's as though, 'Here we go', 'Here we go', 'Here we go'.

'We're on a roll now to finals'.

This IS the epitome of the front runner.   Who cracks under real pressure.

We are at our best when the whole club (and supporters) remains nervous about all games.

Its 'when we feel comfortable', that's when we fall, fail, become soft losers.

We can never afford  'that comfortable feeling',  in any 2 horse race.

Even Northey's boys, ended up with this trait, which ended up being titled 'Hollywood Boulevard'.

Ever wonder how the teams that Balme'y had control of, under produced.

Star-studded,,, but mentally weak teams.

We had big names, who would star when it didn't count.  And after that period, that same attitude prevailed, even under the new incoming coach.

We got to finals, but never really were serious contenders; even in GrandFinals,  where we were just toyed with, in the serious stuff.

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin ventured down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you his observations from this morning's Captain's Run including some hints at the changes for our ANZAC Eve clash against the Tigers. There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
