Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The Jack Watts in 2018 Thread

I liked Jack, was sad to see him go and would like him to do well (except against us) however the game against the swans was the first time I watched him without my Red and Blue glasses on.  For the first time I saw what a lot of posters were talking about when he was with us. He will need to improve on that outing and Hinkley was being kind to suggest he added anything to their structure.

It wasn't our finest moment.

If he'd kicked just two goals per match for us so far this year from the more than 12 goals others had missed, so far, we'd be in second position on the ladder, right now! What is that likelihood? Every bit as likely than not. He is the best kick at goal in the league. At half forward, he is a great mark, too. He is also a very good space-finder on the way to goal. Jesus schwepped. He also thinks so quickly on the field that others cannot keep up, so once in a while during a game, someone catches on to his intent with the ball and converts. As we are reminded so constantly by those on DL who regard themselves as 'oracles'  of the game, we are over that transfer to Port. Like hell, we are over it.

This thread needs a mercy killing from the mods. Some dingbat will bump it every week to either bemoan or cheer his departure. Talk about self flagellation.

He’s gone. Can we not end the obsession now?

That's productive thought and somewhat of a gross assumption. Inaccurate, too. Brainless post, once again. Congratulations....

This.

I can't believe that the season is well under way and this thread is constantly being bumped with mindless posts on both sides of the coin.  He's gone - some are happy, some are ambivalent and so are still annoyed about it.  Great.  Feel that way in your own time.

Move On Deemania.

For me Jacks negatives far outweigh his positives so I like the decision.

Ease your pain & focus on Bailey Fritsch, strap yourself in & enjoy our latest excitement machine.....

Oh, like Bailey Fritch, funny same goal average  but Bailey has played 2 games.

Yep....  I think i speak for most posters that we all like the bloke.

For most seeing him fail would probably just be a validation of the club letting him go. As much as i like the guy i dont think i want him to win a Coleman somewhere else.

So, to sum it all up ...

Watts is a star, and a good ordinary player.

He has the complete set of skills, and major deficiencies in his skill set.

He is the best kick for goal in the league, and doesn't kick many goals.

He will tear it up at Port, and he will fail at Port.

He will humiliate the MFC, and he will vindicate the MFC.

Here's a tip for the simple minded who don't like this thread: don't read it, don't post in it, just ignore it. Carry on with your lives as though it never existed. Let those who want to talk about Jack Watts do so.

watts will be dropped from Port about the half way mark. Definitely just a fringe player.

See, this is simply not true.  People who want to push this idea are way off the mark.

However, so are those who think Watts will be a super acquisition for Port.

Bottom line is that he will provide for Port what he always provided for us over the last few seasons - a couple of ripping games, some good ones, some average ones and then a few absolute shockers.  That's it.

So it's time to move on.  Love him, hate him, wish him well, whatever.  While he still might be a Melbourne person or supporter in the future, he isn't a Melbourne player.  Let's focus on the 44 we have on our list and our hopeful rise up the ladder.  Dwelling on Watts - either positively or negatively - does absolutely nothing for us.

OK, my only comment:

When he played well in the first game Mcavaney said " you Demon supporters out there must be hating this"  But when he has a quiet game there is no mention of "you Demon supporters must be relieved that the club moved him on"

Typical carp commentary.

BTW, a fan of Jack when he was at the club but very glad he has moved on ...perhaps so should we.

Meanwhile, there’s this thing called a thread list where a thread gets bumped to the top of the page every time someone posts in it, thereby acting as a constant reminder of a now ex player that has already been discussed ad [censored] nauseum.

A tip on how online forums work. For the simple minded.

It's a pity there isn't an 'ignore thread' option so that those who can't stop themselves peeking at things that they don't want to read can stop telling us they don't want to read it.  (Actually I think it would a nice feature regardless.)

Just like you ignored all of the messages we sent you in regards to the Ultimate Footy League, which almost ruined the league for the entire season?

On other forums, placing the OP on ignore would make the thread disappear. Which I would gladly do if that worked on here.

Anyhow I doubt it’s going anywhere so I look forward to having this thread taking prime position on a Demons forum after every single Port match.

Embrace it.

Enjoy the spectacle wherein each round we will learn that Jack is an unappreciated star / an eternal dud.

Make your own worm, AFL score style, of the oscillation between star/dud. Correlate it with Port's win/loss record.

Thrill to the flow on effects about Hinkey's genius and Goodwin's flubbery. (And vice versa.)

It's going to be a 23 week (+ finals?) ride, so make the decision to enjoy it.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
