Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

My understanding is that he is in full training.  This suggests that he’s over the injury and building match fitness’s after missing months of training...

I saw it that way as well.

He appears to be over the main injuries but it seems like there are side effects in other parts of his foot: "Having lost support in my foot and running differently and putting different loads through different bones, I've just got these little niggles popping up every now and then".

Little niggles could be anything from a sore big toe to ...?  Whatever the niggles they are enough to limit him to training for at least 3 - 4 weeks before he steps into a match.

Methinks, if it was just a case of match fitness he would be playing the Casey practice match this weekend.

While, I would love to see him back I'm not fussed when he returns because we are not dependent on any one player.

Its worth noting that from rounds 2 to 13 we play only 3 teams in last year's top 8.  So give him all the time he needs.

We need him for the second half of the season a lot more than in the first half.

I suppose it all comes down to how much fitness he lost in his injury/recovery/rehab time.  It's possible that he's not even fit enough for  a Casey match...

I may be naive, but as soon as he joined the main training group, my concerns about his injury dissolved.

Surely he'd be fit enough for a quarter or even less - even a little would help with match fitness.  Shouldn't worry Casey too much to have a 'leaner' in the team as it is only a practice match.  So if he doesn't play, it raises a concern that he is not over injuries.

Bring him back around round 9. Give him a proper 2 month "pre season", 2-3 VFL games and have him primed by mid May.

It will probably cost us a win or 2, but we need this bloke fit and firing and playing career best footy in July - August when we'll be trying to make finals while dealing with a horror draw to end the season.

While i can understand the fervour and intensity for this player, and i love him like everyone else, i would hate us all to get into a state where he might feel obligated to the Club/supporters to rush out onto the ground, come whichever, round 10, or whenever it is, bowl22 blokes over, BOG, and break a leg. Can't we cut him a bit of slack and just let things roll on in their natural order...........

I was thinking the same thing.

I can't be bothered going thru the 'Jack Viney Foot' threads but I recall confident predictions by the club/Jack, that he would be on the training track (not just in rehab) pre Xmas; then early/mid Jan; then late Jan/early feb; then ready to play a JLT game; then ready to play round 1; revised now ready to play round 3 (maybe).

Posters who think there have been no setbacks and this was always the plan should go and read those threads.

I know that things change and progress is unpredictable but the constant revisions makes them look like they have no idea or they are leading us on or both.

The club/Jack could simply say '...its a work in progress...' without a time line attached.

And would still be criticized for not providing further details and time line. A no-win for the club.

Simply highlights the difficulty of knowing the length associated with healing. Just can't be sure.

Also the seriousness and complexities of foot injuries in the modern game.

It's pretty clear that the club isn't rushing Viney, so I'm not sure why there are so many concerns on here and people that have zero clue as to his body and where's it's at saying he should hardly play in the first half of the season.  They wouldn't have the foggiest when it's right for him to play.

End of the day he should have taken his time last season to ensure he was right to play.

He has obviously learnt from this and will be taking the extra time to be 100% right before playing. We can cover him for the first 2-3 rounds but will need a fit a firing Viney as the season drags on.

I dont blame Jack for wanting to come back early most players do. l do blame our sports science team and medical staff for giving him the green light however

Perhaps so but folks are understandably nervous given the seriousness of the injury and the importance of the player.

The abortive return last season and the changing messages this season has not helped sooth posters anxieties.

Our track record of managing injuries and doubts about the expertise of our medical staff (relative to other clubs) does not help perceptions. .

None of us know all the facts or real story but folks have opinions.  However, we do know how important Jack is to the team and team success.  Hence the anxiety.

You are probably right, we don't have the foggiest idea when it's right for him to play.  However, we don't want him to come back to soon and re-injure his foot with all the consequences for the season ahead.

The fact that the club has decided to give Viney more time should be seen in a positive light.

Ultimately, no-one can be sure whether his foot is going to stand-up to the rigors of training and weekly matches. As with other serious and chronic injuries, it will require on-going and weekly management.

A slightly sensationalist headline there, pitmaster.

It sounds like he won't return until Round 3 not because of a setback to the injury, but because they want to get some game time in before he does so to ensure he's ready to go.

It's not ideal, but hardly a 'worst fear confirmed' scenario.

I apologise. Yes it was somewhat wild but for this admirer of JV this is a scary development. I have read Jack's remarks today and it seems he is still feeling his way through a modified running action. I hope he is fit and raring for round three but I won'd be fully confident until he has been back to what we know he is capable of for a few months.

For me a setback was worst case...or at least it left worst case as a prospect.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
