Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Viney update: Out for Round 1

Quite frankly, despite the positive spin Viney is giving it, there's no hiding that the clubs extra precaution and added recovery time points to the fact that something's still not quite right with his foot.Whether it's causing him to pull up sore after each training session or causing discomfort during the session who knows but all this conjecture around him being ready or not has me very concerned.

If I was a betting man, I'd put money on it he won't suit up for round 1.

Pardon the pun. The will he or won't he play in Round 1 dance continues.

As we know, serious foot injuries can be season ending if not career ending. At very least, they can become chronic injuries that can affect a players career and week to week availability.

Given Viney's game style, his injury is a major concern.

I am not concerned about the first game, but the season and his immediate future.

There should be no doubts and no risks taken.

I hope that Saty and others who talk about the way the club now rehabs players are on the money.

Running training is one thing, but match play and a full season is another.

Please, no risks with Jack.

Cringeworthy to say, but ‘spiritually’ speaking, it’d be huge to have him play round 1 even if he’s slightly underdone.

His value to the side exceeds his game-day performance imo. Just like Selwood for Geelong.

He’d lift his team mates, the crowd and he’d make certain opposition players nervous.

Hopefully it’s not all just optimistic fluff.

In all likelihood this charade will continue well beyond round 1. The club has been less than honest from day 1 about this injury, and Jack seems no closer to actually taking the field than he did a month ago.

He’s clearly closer if he’s training with the main group.

Its obvious he did some serious damage last year, by coming back early and  considering what happened to Trengove, the whole thing is a major concern

Hopefully his career can resume very soon.

One would have to come to that conclusion; Viney is too valuable a player to muck around with just to have him on the ground. It horrifies me that he will be missing from the Geelong game, Rnd 1. It terrifies me that he could be risked with regards to his foot (any game is a risk in many ways) by allowing him to play.

If we have some depth, a special task or two needs to be allocated to several other players to compensate for Viney's absence, sensibly allowing Viney another week of rest.

I'd be happy to see him back in round 5 if it meant there was no further issues with his foot.

Totally agree. It's a long season, and his career is all in front of him.

I would rather miss him for 5 weeks, than have him struggle for the next 10 years with this injury.

There are some overreactions here.

Viney is recovering from a stress fracture to his third metatarsal.  It usually doesn't require surgery and in Viney's case it didn't.  They're not uncommon and with rest they heal themselves.  Viney wouldn't be back in full training if he was suffering any significant complications.  If he was feeling pain he simply wouldn't be training.

It's taken longer than the usual 6-8 weeks to heal, because he must have felt pain late last year, which put his progress back.  Being pain free after two weeks of full training is a very good sign.  If he plays next week and recovers with no pain it will be a decision based on match fitness as to whether he plays.

If you google information on stress fractures to the third metatarsal there's a plethora of information.  I know this is his injury, because he said it on a club website interview.  From there I looked up the injury some weeks ago.

From what I can see he has followed the timeline he told Saty in about November. I'm not aware of any major setbacks since then. The training reports since Jan have had him running flat out for 2 1/2 months now and he's back in the full training about when he said he would.  His plantafacia injury healed normally the consequent stress fracture was the set back. It's not one of those injuries like a navicular that can be career ending. Trenners injury has spooked us all but that's not what he's got.

It's true you can't trust anything players or the Club say about injuries but hearing that he's done full training in the main group for about a month now and continues to says all I need to hear.

For the season opener, is an (match) unfit Viney a better option than a match fit 23rd best player on the list?? That's for the match committee to decide.

I'd have him back for round 3. Give him 2 half Casey games followed by a full game on the easter weekend (round 2 AFL).

The club should be ultra conservative on this prized asset...unlike last year.

What a ridiculous statement........there is no way anybody....no matter the medical qualifications they have can predict the exact return of a player from an injury......standard injuries....normal hamstring etc ....mandatory 3 weeks....however we are all individuals & no-one can predict how the body will react to different stressses.....so stop talking about conspiracy theories & just respect the medical experts & their professional judgements ....I would rather have Jack back fit even if it’s Round 5 rather than “in his words” not respecting his body enough & came back too early” .

8 months too late.

Self-inflicted stupidity or a case of the tail wagging the dog.  Take your pick.

Most injuries are said to be unlucky and undeserved.  Can’t say that this is one of them.

Will play for Casey next week. A solid run there and he is a lock for round 1

Will really miss him, don't like the statement this injury has continued to trouble him this pre season!!!

It's the sort of injury that if you have any pain you're off legs.

the fact that he's back in full training and will play for Casey next weekend is a great sign that he's pain free.  His only issue is match fitness.

At full fitness Jack Viney might be our best player, but an underdone Viney can be pretty ordinary, we've seen that a few times of the last few years.

I'm hoping this decision was really based on what's best for Jack but I also don't think it's a surprise that the call has been made after Brayshaw and Tyson both played well last night. Time to back those boys in for round 1 now.

The wrong (and bad) decision was made to rush him back from surgery in the latter parts of last year. I apportion blame to the Docs/fitness staff, the coaches and Viney himself.

Had his injury been handled properly during its initial stages, he would've been ready to go come round 1. Given how tight the comp is to qualify for the 8, come year's end his unavailability may not only cost us a spot in last years finals, but this years as well.

I for one am pleased to hear a decision has finally been made on this ongoing "will he, won't he" saga.

It takes the heat out of the whole issue and I suspect, a substantial burden off young Jack's back. He can now forget the calendar and do whatever it is he needs to do to get himself right. We all know he wants to be out there, but more level heads are required for him to be able to stay out there.

Good call in my view.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
