Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

What the ....?

Oh, you must be one of those "sports fans". Of course.

Seriously, man, didn't you see the ratio of ad revenue to broadcast time, in comparison to the older, duller, LONGER version of the er, sport.

It's faster, sharper, more contemporary. The revenue stream, I mean. The game, well ... who really cares about that? The kiddies, I guess.

And then we can play double headers, with explosions and strippers ... oh my god. What planet are you on?

(Oh that's right, we already established that you're one of those "sports" "enthusiasts". Right.)

Exciting times ahead many positives changes and no doubt a few blunders - but such is life.

AFL - game in great shape

AFLW - Even after one year you can see the massive leap forward the game has taken

AFLX - As I said in my very first comment on AFLX - game needs some tinkering but at last we have a product that is exportable/marketable overseas now let’s get some of the elite players more involved.

The “conservatives” in AFL football are going to struggle but you can’t please all of the people all of the time

Didn’t want to start a new thread for this so I thought I’d post it here. I wonder if it happens if the games will be played as a curtain raiser and may explain the scrapping of the pre-game warm up?

big news if right and a possible blow to Casey.

Some practical difficulties like list expansion (if any) and the cost of flying reserve teams around the country but I like it.

The Fox Footy article mentions, in addition to curtain raisers, "fan activation initiatives" as a reason why the pre-game warm up is gone.

"Fan activation initiatives". Classic AFL. More, what, music? Sponsor events? Do we need more "Where in the Warehouse" or "Dance Cam" which no one likes?

We need an old-fashioned Reserves game prior to a match, then the team warm-up on the ground, then the seniors match, every week. As AFL prices rise, that would be moving towards better value for money. I would even donate my pie 'n sauce money to this cause and the 'home' team as these nourishment treats are too expensive to consider anymore. Bring back 'People Power', not dictatorial exploitation. It is our game, not the AFL's.

"Fan activation initiatives" - lol - is this pc talk for "entertainment"

footy is the only entertainment i go to the ground for - the rest is generally an annoyance and amateurish like "reality" tv

Having thought about this a bit more seriously, is it possible that this is all about re-introducing curtain raisers? It may be that various other bodies have to be consulted, including the VFL and other State leagues, the AFLW, ground managers, public transport operators, police, the clubs, concessions, etc and until each has been properly consulted and any issues of concern addressed, the AFL is not is a position to make such an announcement. If (and I accept it's a big if) that's the reason for describing it in indecipherable, inane language, then I can understand it.

But if it's going to be music acts and marching bands, nah.

Certainly my understanding of this change was for the possibility of curtain raisers to come back. But when they aren't happening I don't see any reason to prevent the players from accessing the field until say 20-30min before the bounce, I always liked the warm ups because (particularly early in the year) it gave you a chance to observe and identify some of the new boys.

If this was done to bring in curtain raisers than it's a tick for me. If it's tinkering for the sake of tinkering (and "fan engagement") than it sounds pointless.

Anyone suggest a reason for this:

. The away club must enter three minutes earlier than the home team.

Will there be fines for disobeying?  Working out which team is to blame would be interesting.

I'd imagine this was a strong request from the broadcasters so that their production could flow on a tighter schedule.

Clubs will no longer be able to warm-up as a team on the ground other than briefly before the first bounce.

Clubs generally completed a 15-minute warm-up on the field 25 to 40 minutes out from the first bounce, went back into the rooms and then re-entered the arena for a final kick before the match commenced.

Now they will need to enter the arena 11 minutes before the start of the game. The away club must enter three minutes earlier than the home team.

Among other changes:

— Clubs will now be required to list four emergency players, up from three. Part of the reason for this change is to accommodate the possibility of a ruckman getting injured in the warm-up. The position is more specialised than ever and four emergencies allows coaches more flexibility and insurance.

— Four emergencies will essentially allow clubs to have a reserve player for each of the four positions on the ground and should completely eliminate the possibility of a player outside the selected squad parachuting into the starting team at the last minute.

Players must cease kicking for goal in warm-ups five minutes before the first bounce, as opposed to three minutes. Given home teams will enter the arena 11 minutes before play begins, that leaves just six minutes for forwards to practise goalkicking and get an accurate gauge on conditions.

— Approval may be sought for players listed on the long-term injury list to be seated on the club interchange bench during matches, providing the player is listed on the official team sheet as one of the 26 match officials.

— The pre-match warning siren, which ran three minutes before the first bounce, has been removed. It has been replaced by the following sequence:

1. Umpires enter the arena (1 siren)

2. 5 minutes prior to match start (1 siren)

3. 2 minutes prior to match start (2 sirens)

4. 1 minute prior to match start (1 siren)

So when I'm standing in a que for a beer or some chips and I hear one siren, the umpires might be walking on to the ground, there could be 5 minutes to go before the first boince or I could miss the start of the match.  Interesting

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
