Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It’s almost like counter intel and counter counter intel, everyone’s tight lipped and feeding so much disinformation or at the very least, not enough information to draw conclusions upon. It’ll be almost impossible to determine who will line up Rd.1, but I suspect Ablett and Danger to be there - regardless, I think we still have the depth!

I do get the feeling there’s a few games being played. I reckon Lookatmefield will play round 1.

Kingy made a good point the other day and said it was brought up at the Fox footy launch, because the broadcaster pay so much for the rights then they should have access to live injury updates on game day, and supporters aswell who pay up for foxtel subscriptions, they were all guessing the other day with Dangerfield then the hammy news came out an hour after the game, I think clubs should have to give info as soon as they know it on game day

You’re right, no mention at all of a hotspot, after the news of a hotspot surfaced last night a sore toe seemed like a relief. If indeed there is one, i guess they’re hiding it.

"I'm confident [he will play round one]. He's got a sore toe and he's had that for a month or so," Goodwin said as he enters his second season in charge of the Demons.

If the above is true, why was T Mac allowed to play in AFLX and the opening JLT?  I thought the players were straight into rehab if they felt even a slight itch.

when i read your op i thought goody had specifically denied a hotspot, but that was not the case.

of course i hope it's just a niggly sore toe and he is fit to go for round1. plus i am always wary when sen claim any sort of "scoop"

possible ethan, but cats would be silly to play 2 players returning after hamstring niggles at the same time. so i'm counting on at least one of them not playing but not sure which one

I think you'll then see players targeting sore players like Nigel Lappin in the '04 Grand Final, when Akker famously broadcast that he was playing with broken ribs.  We often refer to it as the opposition 'testing out' a sore shoulder, ribs or hip, etc.  Lots of players carry injuries through the season that the opposition are unaware of. Not sure why clubs would want to tell the opposition about weaknesses their players have that can then be exploited.

At the end of the day though, it's a players personal medical information we're talking about here.  I don't think fans or broadcasters are in any position to demand more information that what the people involved are willing to give.

So am I.

Tassie's drop kicks from the goal square would land in the centre where Hassa was.

Don't get me going - Tassie, Hassa, Townsend, Parke, Dillon, Hardeman, Alves, and all the others. Geez it was fun.

Chook, he was a centre half forward mainly...

My memory may be fading.  But, seems to me Dillon was FF, while Parke was CHF.  When Barry Bourke played FF, it was more as a decoy forward, as he wasn't all that tall...  Think he was also a little before the time of Dillon & Parke.

Unless you liked winning.

These were seriously dark days, but I agree there were some memorable individuals and individual performances. I still remember Greg Parke taking what seemed like 16 contested marks in the bog-heap which was the Moorabbin ground.

He was a freak with marking, Greg Parke. He took more marks than anyone and most of these were heavily contested. Lousy kick but a good handball feeder at the same time, just as long as a kick. I can remember him  -  a policeman -  directing traffic every morning and often in the evening at the centre of the road at Camberwell Junction prior to traffic lights being installed at that 6-way intersection. We'd lean out of a tram and attempt to knock his hat off his head as the tram rattled passed. He, in return, smiled broadly and shook his finger at us allegedly disapprovingly. It was fun.

Glad you mentioned Ross Dillon, a great favourite of mine, unfortunately cruelled by injury but a fantastic talent.

Dillon went on to resume his SA footy career as it was at a lower level than the Vics at that time. Ross Dillon, now he was a champion at CHF. I thought that the Ox in his pre-injury days was his reincarnation, and yet, Dillon had just that little bit more with timing, skills, mobility and goal power. Both were actually entirely different players. Royce Hart got the accolades every week but Dillon was better and more reliable.

Hey 'Chook', how did you know about Laurie Fowler's knickname? It was older than his football career - stemmed from the good old Chadstone High School.

Thanks for the update. You are correct with these 'memories'. Parke, Bourke and Dillon. Yep, Barry Bourke the decoy was just before Parke and Dillon.

He did hurt it and not long after, I think it was Townsend who had to limp off.

I still think that when Ross Dillon went down with an achilles injury in 1971 after making the state team the previous year it was bigger than Schwarter's knee. Back then nobody even knew what an achilles injury was - it was the turf-toe of today.

Speaking of turf-toe, it sounds like T-Mac has succumbed to it - must have something to do with jumping up for the ruck tapouts.

Anyway by my reckoning we may now have five first 22 players missing for Rd 1 and there's a few yet to prove their fitnes.

1) Viney. 2) T-Mac. 3) Lewis. 4) ANB (he's still not allowed to do competitive work). 5) VDB (he's a favourite of mine, although like my colleagues above I accept that I'm living in the past).

You can also add O.Mac and Oliver, who are racing against time with their niggles, but I suspect will get up.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
