Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Damnit!! Media adviser!! How embarassment!  Why am I unable to edit from both my mobile and my PC? Is there some sort of a time based window for editing that closes after a certain period of time?

As I am unable to edit the original post, I will repost the edited version here:

"So Junior, why are you going to so much trouble to show transgressions only on the left side of politics?

The issue I have with Joyce is that he pushed the No vote on the basis of good old family values, whilst at the same time porking his media advisor, who was then set up with a nice position in Matt Canavan's office once their relationship came to light within party ranks, and then into a position in Drum's office that appears to have been created specifically for her.

Of those cases you cite above, and in particular the Tony Burke case which comes closest in terms of scenarios, it would seem that the right (or, in this case wrong) side of politics learned nothing in the interim."

If you read my post you would see I clearly say its both sides of politics.

Please let me know where I can find Barnaby pushing "the No vote on the basis of good old family values". Any quote will do.

Thanks

Well Jnr, in my original response to you (that I copied above), that was exactly what my first sentence was responding to.  The fact that you said it occurred on both sides of politics, yet you chose only to put a number of posts highlighting indiscretions from the left side.  That was my point.  You had said: "however it's got nothing to do with the side of politics as you can see from above. It's neither conservative nor Labor or Green. Its got to do with the character of the people involved."

As for the quote... I do not have a direct quote but it has been reported widely across the press, and to cite just one of many, the following from news.com.au:

"Remarks about promiscuity and upholding family values are coming back to haunt Mr Joyce after his affair with a now-pregnant former staff member in his office was made public."

http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/relationships/marriage/the-comments-coming-back-to-haunt-barnaby-joyce/news-story/816edfc4ceb042435f80267ebd64cd8e

Sure it's not straight from the horse's mouth, and you may even turn around and say that this is probably not a reputable site (although I don't know why), but comments such as this, referring to his publicly stated belief in traditional family values, have appeared on numerous sites, so it is more than likely there is more than a little truth involved.

Another insight into his albeit skewiff set of traditional values, was his stance against immunisation against cervical cancer because it would promote promiscurity among teenage girls:

"During discussion about the roll out of a national immunisation campaign using Gardisil, a vaccine that protects young women from the virus that causes 70 per cent of cervical cancers, Mr Joyce expressed fears it would encourage young women to be promiscuous."

“I want to stand with the current definition of marriage. I think it has been trialled by time, by thousands of years across multiple cultures, across multiple faiths."

“I see marriage as a reflection of what I have, what my parents had, what my grandparents had."

“When we go there (Asia), there are judgments whether you like it or not that are made about us. There they see in how we negotiate with them whether they see us as decadent."

So I looked up Bill Shorten's maiden speech to parliament today. Here is a quote: "Above all others—and I can say this on Valentine’s Day—I thank my wife, Deb Beale, an endlessly intelligent, supportive and loving woman."

This was at the same time he was shagging Chloe Bryce who he later got pregnant while they were both married to other people

That's hypocrisy writ large. That's sanctimonious writ large.

If Barnaby goes so should Bill Shorten......and Tony Burke.

I hadn’t realised that Chloe Bryce was working for Shorten at the time, nor that a well paid job was created specifically for her at the taxpayers’ expense when their relationship came to light.

But in terms of their personal situations, I agree that it does reek of hypocrisy.

No that was Tony Burke's staffer who he spent $450k of our money on taking her around the world before making her Chief of Staff with no job advertised etc.

They're all hypocrites and until we demand that all those doing this garbage get booted out of parliament then sadly we will continue to get monkeys representing us.

As I said its not the side of politics its the hypocrisy and they are as bad as each other.

I think that Barnaby was hypocritical with his comments  but meh - fluff and nonsense and no hanging offence. ( let me rephrase - it is a personal matter)

Any politician that gives jobs or spends OUR money inappropriately ( read criminally) on wives, girlfriends, family etc should be booted to the curb.

Not a Trump thread - but how the American public allow Trump's children (Ivanka and Jared K) as advisers is beyond me. It has been stated that they are not being paid but they have offices in the white house and it seems to me that there must be a cost to the taxpayer to have them as part of the administration.

It's a very different system there and I think (not 100% sure) that when a new team comes in to the WH they bring in whoever they want. Given Trump pretty much funded his own campaign and he didn't get a lot of help from Republicans I suspect he can employ who he wants in his 'team'.

You can bring in whoever you like but there has to be some justification for who you bring in as they are expending public money.

And there is a difference between who funds an election campaign ( and Trump was pretty much self funded and actually spent a pittance) and who pays when you get the gig. So Ivanka and Jared are absorbing public money - shouldn't the public expect the best person for their spend ? What is interesting is I don't think much of Trumps appointments but many of them are multi millionaires/billions who don't do the job for the money anyway.

I doubt he’d touch her if the ages were reversed. Oh well, if he’d kept it in his pants he’d have stayed. Only himself to blame.

Yes, Quentin Bryce, Chloe Bryce’s mother. From the Courier Mail 2008:

FEDERAL Labor parliamentarian and former union leadter Bill Shorten has left his wife for the daughter of the new Governor-General, Quentin Bryce.”

http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/national/shorten-with-ggs-daughter/news-story/1139db9114866dfa6ed8a18100fe2490

Of course I’m assuming ET was referring to the woman Shorten left his wife for... I’m not aware of any other such “transgressions“.

Er ...if Quentin Bryce was really Chloe's father, no wonder Bill was so in favour of marriage equality.

No worries - it happens to us all -  barracking for Melbourne scrambles your brains. I did meet the GG, and as far as I can tell, she was a woman (coincidentally, I also met Chloe on another occasion, and boy, was she a woman).

Heh... I think that questioning peoples’ marriage breakdowns on moral grounds is just plain wrong. Barnaby however did set himself up by publicly making statements about the sanctity of marriage etc.  But I don’t think that was the reason he was dragged across the coals.  I’ve already mentioned what I thought was a major reason elsewhere in this thread, but it certainly didn’t help that he has since been accused of sexual harassment, by a member of his own party.

well there was an awful lot of 'moralising' in the media and by the usual pundits on both sides

i wouldn't denigrate necessarily, morals, they are an important element in a society especially for people placed by the public into a position of trust and leadership, but the question of morals and society is probably a discussion for another time.

i agree barnaby had to step down and missed an opportunity to do it swiftly

i guess the hypocrisy and self-serving of politicians on all sides living in their glass houses tends to gall me. like pigs lapping up the swill.

has politics in this country ever been so depressing or am i just getting too old?

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
