Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I believe Tom Mac is our most valuable player. He is first picked for my 22.

He is proven, tough and reliable. He seemingly has come back very quickly from his end of year operations and I would be happy to have him as a stand alone captain. I bet other teams envy us and I see him not only kicking 50 if he is not sent back to help out,  but goal assisting many others this year. Reminds me of Ross Glendinning.

100 would be better. No pressure.

Very happy to see TMac in the forward line, great competitor, keeps going all day, if he kicked 50 it would be great, as he will also keep ball in forward line and create opportunities for others.

that winning goal against the Weagles was one of the season highlights.

Sign him quickly for 3-4 years.

TMac our most valuable player? Yeah, nah.

I like him a lot, but I'd have another 6 or 8 before him on any 'value' list. Oliver, Trac, Viney, Hogan, Lever, Gawn and Jetta for starters

I disagree with five of the above Mr. Shadow he is easily the in the top five most valuable players.

Viney, Hogan and Gawn have suspect bodies that could easily reduce the number of games they play. And their value to the team.

Lever looks good but at this point he has not played one game for the MFC and Trac shows promise but has not delivered beyond that.

OK od, I'll put it this way...

Putting aside list needs, if you were a recruiter from another club, which of those 7 players would you not prefer ahead of TMac? Further, which would be worth less than TMac in a trade?

I'd put TMac around 8 or 9 on our current list

I've seen this written elsewhere HaH, and I find the suggestion of blackmail disturbing.  What convinced you that it is 100% fact (?); or is it just speculation?

DOF, I don't think many here can claim too much inside knowledge of the goings on of contract negotiations.

I don't claim the blackmail story to be indisputable fact. However, at the time when TMac and his brother signed up last, Oscar had very little street cred to negotiate with, so it would seem more likely than not, that a little help may have come from his big brother.

The suggestion of 2 or none is speculative but reasonably believable.

After last night, nothing really changed as far as Tom is concerned. We need him signed up ASAP.

Oscar could be put on ice but if he too I'd signed up, l could only suspect some brotherly support.

I think that we have different views of his ability, I think he is the equal of our best players different but equal. If I were a recruiter he would be top of my list and he is available this year for a low recruitment cost. On top of that he has proven to be very durable he is seldom out injured so you get a player that has a high chance of playing 95 % of the games in his contract. Viney may not play again, Gawn struggles to play on average 66% of games, Hogan even worse.

I 100% agree OD.

He’s a reliable, dominant player who can run all day, rarely misses a goal or a game, yet is under appreciated here.   He’s worth as much as anyone on our list.

Far out. A few months off and I come back to this. You are a cheerful chap aren’t you?

Have you forgotten the one with a foot injury who never played again or the x captain who was out for two years and the faded away to SA? Or the current player who after 18 months is still not even running, foot  injurys are amongst the worst.

The comment was made when discussing player durability. It is unlikely but not impossible.

Yep anything is possible. Can’t argue with that. You might wake up and be positive tomorrow too :)....endless possibilities...

I think you underrate him. He and Trengove (as greater guy as he is) are not in the same league. Jack’l be right.

Just saying been off for a few months and now footys nearly back it’s funny to come and see the same negativity from the same posters. I’m more optimistic but hey if that’s your style....

I agree with that part od.

Are those figures fact or fake? We are discussing value, not durability. IMO the players I listed would get us greater trade return than Tmac.

Having said that, I still rate Tom as a player, just not in the top echelon at MFC

Each to their own opinion though ;)

IF he never plays again as his passionate self, I will blame co captaincy. Statistically very bad for the younger cocaptauns feet.

Although it was only AFLX, Tommy looked great last night! His hands are terrific and despite his at times questionable kicking, he seems to never miss a set shot at goal.

He actually reminds me a bit of Josh Kennedy from the Eagles.

The interest thing is he was drafted as a forward so it should not be a big surprise that he is a good kick for goal.

Oscar got the standard 2 year contract renewal which is the minimum all new draftees get (unless they are total duds).  Oscar played a bit of senior footy so showed he had something and deserved  the standard two year contract renewal and I see no evidence that he was riding on his brother's coattails.

They have the same manager so it made sense that the club negotiate with that manager for both players.  I would suggest that when the club meets with Paul Connors for player progress/contracts they would talk about Petracca, Hibberd etc etc. simultaneously.  It doesn't make sense to hold separate meetings for each player.  Ditto for the McDonalds.

I have no inside info, just working with the known facts.

Please don't present speculation as fact, as you did in your previous post. You would be surprised at how quickly garbage can get traction in the cesspit of the football media.

Having re-read my original post l find it somewhat incredible that my one line reference to the Mac boys could be construed as "presenting speculation as fact". I merely drew on my recollection of the released reports at the time.

The vociferous response from a couple of posters who then added the term "blackmail" which l did not previously use,  suggests there are a few on this site who are quite adept at discretely misreading and misquoting others.

This thread started off being about Tom Mac and hopefully should end up that way.

I naively failed to read the extraordinary amount of love for young Oscar and in hindsight regret mentioning him. Considering  he was drafted in the same year as Jake Lever, l clearly mistakingly saw him as of far less developed a player and of far less value than Tom (and Jake).

I accept that view is not shared here.

Let me repeat a lost thought, l believe Tom is an important player to the side's success.

The HS has an article titled 'Tom on Target for Bumper Payday'.

Can someone who can get behind the paywall tell us if he is any closer to signing or if its just another HS 'fluff' pieces.

Cheers,

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
