Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Jones Forward?

Recommended Posts

Garry Lyon has forecast a new role for Melbourne co-skipper Nathan Jones as he attempts to overcome a series of niggling injuries.

With the Dees starting to build a talented engine room, headlined by the likes of Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver, the former Melbourne captain expects to see Jones spend more time forward in order to preserve his body for the challenges that lie ahead.

“I would expect him to play, we talk about Petracca wanting to go into the middle, you know that Oliver can, he will go forward perhaps for longer periods in time, and maybe it will help preserve his body,” Lyon said on SEN Breakfast.

“He could even go back as well.”

Are you suggesting the players are not completely candid when they talk to random supporters? Surely not.

Calf injuries, particularly in older players, is becoming one of those injuries that never seem to go away. Like foot injuries.

Settle down, had a good laugh with Jonesy when I asked him were the reports of his demise premature

He attacked pre pre and pre season like he normally does and his body quietly reminded him he was a year older

As per the article on Club Website, he is now listening to it, has had a niggly calf, so as with Viney, the fitness and medical staff have him on a short leash, Viney is also right on track as well

As for the candid comments, I am told quite a lot of info, but trusted to keep it to myself, unless I am told to advertise it to put a lid on some nonesense

You've admitted in the past that Jones tells you SFA at the very least.

In response to the OP, I think Jones is still a very important cog in our midfield.  Without him, we have a young, confident (bordering on cocky) group of mids.  They will make some teams look silly, but will still get shown up against some of the hardened mids like Geelong, Sydney, etc.

I can also see Jones doing a "Lewis", by playing back rather than forward.  Just not yet.

I say Jones gives me nothing, read what I also wrote

The midfield group will be fine against any other team as long as they turn ip and play as a group

Saty is a random supporter? Wash your mouth out with bleach for committing such blasphemy!

He should be put on the honor boards at the club and not made to weather such wicked attacks on his character.

I do worry about Jonesy calf. This is the same calf that made him miss 4 weeks last year, and which ever way you look at it, it is the old man's injury in footy terms. To hear he's been having niggle during the pre season is a little worrying.. but not slashing my wrist over, as I'm still backing his durability.

He's the ultimate professional, so I know he'll do everything in his power to get it right each week.

Think of the game as one of rotations:  Midfield, secondary zone, bench.  Bernie and Lewis rotate centre-back-bench, Trac, Jones (Hogan, Hannan) rotate forward-centre-bench.   Stretch wing-centre-bench.  Oliver and Viney as almost pure mids (on ball - bench). Etc. Provides lots of options, and also leadership on every line.  With Lewis and Lever coordinating the back half, Jones could add some valuable leadership forward if needed.  So I'm not against him spending time forward as Trac rotates into the middle.

I don't speak to him, or for him, but in the pics posted he seems to be going OK for an old bugger with bung calves....

Quad strain I think last year 'dazzle'...

The calf seems to be one he's picked up this pre season. Either way he is starting to pick up a few soft tissue injuries now and will need to modify his training a bit as it appears he understands.

He's been quite durable to date.

Back makes more sense than forward, but I still think he's got plenty of time left in the midfield, first by moving on to the wing and away from the crash and bash.

A high half forward role wouldn't be unreasonable but in reality there's not much difference between that role and playing on a wing/rotating in to the guts.

I think Jones would be better going back in a similar role to Jarrad McVeigh than as a forward. He is not great overhead or super quick. I also don't see small forwards having a lighter load than midfielders these days given they push up the ground so far.

The scary bearded bald man role ? McVeigh does have 4cm and some flexibility on him, so he can play on a 3rd tall as well as small. I think Jones has more of a scent for kicking a goal when its needed. 20 goals as a hf would be a valuable contribution in a year. And he has the fierceness to corral defenders and tackle them with force if we're aiming to be the best team for pressure again like we were until mid season last year.

I went along to training 2 weeks ago with the specific aim of looking at the players in rehab. I spent 15 mins watching Jones in competitive work and he certainly didn't look like a player who was struggling with a calf. So I'm interested in what you have observed or who have you spoken to that makes you think the injury is "much worse"?

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim
