Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The old chicken and egg argument OD.  I would urge anyone who thinks along such lines to spend an hour at each of the Hawks, Bulldogs & Cats facilities and then see whether you still feel the same way.  As a fellow LSDS i felt exactly as you did before doing so in the last few years OD.  Happy belated new year btw!

Some good points RN and a question when you went to the Hawks, Bulldogs & Cats facilities how many people were there?

I understand that it is better to have a facility than not have one but is the expense of creating one from scratch worth the benefit?

Personal needs I guess, in the 80's I was a Redleg member and there used to be a facility in the old northern stand for Redlegs members after the game which I did enjoy but that was 35 years ago and I was 35 years younger I have no desire/ need any longer.

I am not saying that club should not have one it just holds no big desire for me.

And thank you Carn the Dees.

Start winning first. (Football Dept and Training Facilities)

Start worrying about where to Celebrate later

(The Town Hall in the CBD of Melbourne is my personal choice), we rent space during the football season.

No point owning facilities when they’re not utilized.

How often do we all go to Leighoak or the Bentleigh Club?

No one would ever know the Leighoak is leased by the club SWYL unless you were an older or well informed demon.  There is nothing anywhere outside or inside that venue to suggest it is linked to the MFC.   Having been and eaten there lately i can also say its bog ordinary ,decor and food.  I agree i wldnt be seen dead there.  Havent been to the Bentleigh club for over a decade as even back then it was way past its use buy and offered ordinary fare also.

Build it and they will come SW provided its in a reasonably central, easy to access position, with decent parking within earshot

All those facilities i attended as a guest at a function where a company/seniors group paid the Club for a group lunch served at the Club's cafe OD.

Most impressive of those was the Bulldogs as it was before they had tasted any success in 2015.  As it so happened, Beveridge was present on the day chatting to supporters / anyone interested in the Cafe (not organised he just happened to be grabbing some lunch).  I recall at the time what a great club feel the venue had and even wrote this up on here at the time, effectively 14 mths before they tasted the ultimate success.  Sometimes "seeing/feeling" is believing OD.  Im also not going out as much as i once did but i would rather spend my hard earned at our club (if we had one) than anywhere else most of the time, where possible.

So we have 2 venues that few of us use. Exactly why i think we should rent space to hold events.

Save running costs when not in use

I would rather have a home that everyone can attend at any time of the year SW not just the FD and admin.  A venue that contains only those two depts and no access for supporters is not a club in the true sense of the word and never will be IMHO.  We need a year round home as well as somewhere to celebrate.  Waverley does both, subject to a refit/refurb (excluding existing fitness/eatery venues etc where their accommodation may or may not need upgrading).

But it won’t be used in Summer as a social venue. It will have minimal use at best

Social Clubs make money before games (Lunches) & after victories  the rest of the time they remain mostly idle, but need to be maintained 7 days a week

There goes a fair slab of any profits

Rent good space before and after games

you are not proposing to buy VFL PARK i hope.....??

spot on

the only clubs have have issues with facilities from a training and admin dislocation perspective are us, bears, gc17, and the aints

if a club doesn't have a 'facility' attached to their club (e.g. port adelaide have the port club, footscray have daycare centre and gym etc., north has a cultural hub of some description and has had two upgrades in the last decade, and richmond have a publicly available swimming pool in a perfect location within spitting distance of the g, plus the Korin Gamadji Institute and community space too

bears and gc17 are in a pretty poor space in terms of facilities, and both we and the aints have no 'place' really - although saints are rectifying that with 'the return to moorabbin'

we need a home, and preferably within spitting distance of the g

Hell no and at Waverly how does that help us?

Provided it's a revamped one that helps win us a premiership or two due to the inclusive club / home feel and resulting increased interest/membership/sponsorship etc (and a home to supporters which we have never had... ever) then yes I'm all for it guys.  Sometimes you have to take a bit of a calculated risk in life.  It's only money after all

But what if it doesn't? One of the big problems with clubs (and not just AFL clubs) is the willingness of Directors to mortgage a club's future using the argument that "we might be paying up now but we will recoup the costs and more when we win". Over the journey I've seen this happen time and again. Ranald MacDonald did it with the "New Magpies" and nearly bankrupted that club; and we did it in the mid-80s using the emotional argument that we had to give Robbie Flower a chance to play finals.

But is in the boonies RN. I hated going there when we played games there.

No chance I would go there for a "club house" feel.

This notion of clubhouse is literally some kind of yesteryear ( read last century ) form of desperate longing.

The club needs a new facility...not the supporters. Any number of watering holes for that purpose.

But Rusty Whorethorn are leaving there because they have out grown the facility, what makes it any different to our needs?

I certainly wouldn’t go anywhere near Waverly Park for a few after match Whiskey ? ‘s

it’s pure madness. Waverly has no connection to us at all.

We need to stay within a radius of the CBD/MCG

Those are our roots and we should embrace them even further. MMelbourne will become a very big city in the next decade. We can be a strong part of that.

i don't see why we can't return to the mcg, especially with all the talk of of the new hi-tech artificial turf, which would allow vastly more practice time to be available. think to the future. natural grass on major stadiums will soon be a thing of the past

Not sure it’s quite in the boonies old dee. It may be a fair way away from brighton, but from the center of greater Melbourne from a population perspective it’s around 12mins away (chadstone is roughly the center) and super easy to get to.

not saying I would go there but.

I don't live at Brighton coach but I can guarantee you from the northern suburbs it is a three day route march. Not a chance in hell I would go there ever.

It is located well but honestly it is small, I understand your frustration but Albert is not an alternative.

I would agree with you dc but the mere fact the MFC is looking at alternatives suggests that the MCG for whatever reasons is not on!

? then you must really hate the walk to Casey fields which I would definitely classify as the boonies!

Not trying to say it would be a good idea to set up a social thing there, but if the goal was to be positioned to have the greatest access from a population perspective it’s not a bad location.

The ideal location would obviously be as close as possible to the MCG. The Lexus center or whatever it’s name is would be ideal (well done previous board for turning it down by the way! Slow clap ?)

For the millionth time we had no money to run the joint let alone turn it into a footy facility..

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
